Like true leaders, they sacrificed money now for later to help nice needed players...! Nice!

That's not really how it works... typically some of their base salary is converted into a bonus so it becomes prorated over the life of their contract, which might also be stretched out too.

In the end, both probably took home a fat check to rework their contract (aka be "true leaders"), and with their salaries this year reduced they may have been increased in subsequent years, putting off the problem if the teams overall salary creep is greater than cap inflation (which they all usually are).

Now to see how the Raiders will be better after losing their leading receiver for 3 years and their best defensive player... If you think just tossing Kevin Boss in among their other signings = success then you must also think the Eagles have already won the Super Bowl?

Big difference between bringing in players and them playing successfully as a team (Oaklands biggest problem for nearly a decade). The Raiders have lost players at key positions, your optimism doesn't seem very realistic.

They did NOT have to rework the contract they just signed, which was also signed by the ownership. So yes, they don't get their money now, they will get it later, but in the end, it was something they were not obligated to do.

WHERE have you read ANYONE state the Raiders are "better off" without their 2 best players? I would be interested to know.

Your opinion on my optimism....but not surprised considering your in the same division. ;)

You said the Raiders are good enough to win the division, they'd have to win more than 2 outside of the division and can't count on going 6-0 in it, so YOU are the one saying they are improved without Aso, Gallery, Miller...

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here, so just link to where you read that they signed new deals, not reworked their contract that they signed just several months ago. They weren't obligated to do it but if they didn't they could have been cut. You think Routt can get that kind of money from another team? Their pre-lockout contracts don't just go away and they can then work new deals, they're extended/restructured to reduce the cap number... which involves cutting the player a check for the bonus money. Typically their annual salary is reduced (what they make after each game) and in exchange for that the rest of the money they'd have gotten was given to them as a bonus... money which them counts towards the cap over the remainder of their contract instead of this year.

Yes, I still think they are good enough to win the division because the division is not that good. You may not have to win 2 outside your conference to win the division. Gallery was replaceable because as a #2 overall pick, he was never better than a so-so offensive lineman. Nnamdi, though he was great, he was not thrown to no where near as much as Routt(by 3 times) and the were almost rated the same. The Raiders had the 2nd best pass defense in the NFL last year, ALOT had to do with the OTHER corners the Raiders had, not just Nnamdi. IF anything, as much as it pains me to say, Nnamdi's loss is no where near as big as Miller loss.

You think that one of the better DB statistically was gonna get cut? And for what ALL that Seymour has done, was gonna get cut too? LMAO! IF you do, you MUST have some inside dope in the Raiders front office that no one is aware of. That was not gonna happen.

Read the link I sent stating that Sandra's(and yours for that matter) was somewhat proven as far as Nnamdi is concerned. It's a good read with facts, with very little "fanboy" opinion.

And what of the rest of it that you conveniently skipped, where did you get "They did NOT have to rework the contract they just signed, which was also signed by the ownership. The team had to get under the salary cap by any means necessary, if players with large cap numbers wouldn't restructure then they or others would have been cut. This fact is mentioned in almost many articles prior to their restructuring today.

And there, in your OWN post said it for me. The obvious choices were Routt and Seymour. They could have been d%&ks and said no and others would have been cut...but they were men about it and did what is best for the team AND like I said they were NOT gonna be cut. You know that, I know that and they knew that. And like I said and the article confirmed, they were the likely choices to restructure and at no point does it state they were gonna be cut.

After reading the last few pages of threads and some people don't like Hoge, well that's probable because he was a Steeler and a lot of you can't stand the Steelers. :D

I like Hoge and IMO he knows what he is talking about.

I like Jaws and Suzy better !

I'm surprised he's put up so much of a fight over being a RFA, I'm not sure he'd get $2.6m if he signed with another team with the glut of FA RBs. Sign, have a good year, and get franchised and make top 5 money, or get a big deal from Al or someone else.

Carolina lost 2 players for the year yesterday, 6th round pick OL Zack Williams tore his achilles and former Chiefs DT Ron Edwards tore his triceps (ow).
