MLB 2024 Season

😬😬 Last night was a disaster.
Ha, ha, now you know why the Phillies all cheered when Atlanta was dumb enough to let Freddie walk away. He was not only a Phillies killer but he is money in the post season (as the Yankees now know) and the Braves have slowly kept fading since he's gone.

Boones ineptness as a manager caused that.

LA v NY in the world series is nothing but a disaster. All you can cheer for is asteroid destroying Earth.
Ratings are up, for example, 2022, the games averaged 4.5M Million Households, last year, just 3.5M Households, so far, this year, a little over 5.5M Households.

In 2016, the year before most considered Cord Cutting started, when Cable and Satellite had over 100M Households subscribers.

The World Series averaged 8.5M Households.

In 1978, almost 17M Households.

Both Fox and ESPN can opt out of the TV contract after this season, everyone is expecting Fox to do so.

I get why TV likes it. But for most of the rest of us, it is hope an asteroid destroys earth.

In 1978 there were 3 channels. NBC, ABC, CBS. Those numbers are useless in this day and age.
Last year Rangers vs Dbacks....much smaller markets.

Actually they are not, I put those ratings in my post to make a point that went right over your head, in today’s world, with all of the choices we have, only the extreme minority care about the World Series, vs then when there was so little choices.

NY City Metro Area has 7.5M Households.
LA Metro Area has 4.8M Households.

The WS is averaging 5.5M Households Nationwide, not even half of the Metro Area of the two cities playing.

We have 131M Households in the United States, so the WS is only averaging 4.2% of the total audience.

Last year Rangers vs Dbacks....much smaller markets.
While true, it is only 2 Million more then last year, pretty awful considering the population of the two teams metro areas.

I'm one of the "extreme minority" who watched the World Series. I'm not a fan of either of the two teams, but was pulling for the Dodgers simply because I despise them less. What a weird series. LA was hot from the start and dominated both offense and defense for the first three games.

In the fourth game, NY seemed to wake up and get their mojo going with a big win. Last night, they jump out to a quick 5 run lead in the first two innings. Then, in the fifth, NY fell apart, looked like little league in the field and gave up five unearned runs. I actually felt sorry for them. What a way to lose.

Congrats to the Dodger fans, great championship.

I haven't seen the highlights, or lowlights as it sounds like it was. Five unearned runs?! How satisfying that'd been if it wasn't the Dodgers!

Judge took his eye off of a pop fly in short center field and the ball hit his glove and fell to earth. Allowed men on first and second.

Next play, the shortstop made an errant throw to third on a ground ball force out. Allowed for the bases loaded.

Then, pitcher Garrett Cole forgot to cover first base on a routine grounder to first base. Everybody safe.

Very much out of character mistakes for a quality team.

I remember going down to Times Square right after the Yankees took it in '96 after going down what seemed an unrecoverable 2-0 to Atlanta. Luckily it was a Saturday and we could just do that. It was a 45 minute ride on the subway to get there. It wasn't New Years Eve packed, but a rare time to see so many people just so happy in NYC very late at night.

I wasn't happy, the Yankees suck ;), but it was fun and a very unique experience.
