NHL 2008-09 Season

Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. You see this a lot in the other leagues also. Teams built just to beat a divisional rival. They can keep trying, but every year, they we are, contending once again. I wish Illitch would buy the Lions.

Former Wings asst. coaching the Sharks as well.

Yes, but what to do with the William Clay Ford family...

"Ford became the sole owner of the Detroit Lions in 1964, purchasing the franchise for $4.5 million from Dick Richards. He is often blamed for the Lions' abysmal record under his ownership. The Lions were one of the most successful teams of the 1950s, winning championships in 1952, 1953 and 1957. However, the Lions have won only one playoff game since Ford became the sole owner of the team, and have never reached the Super Bowl.

Players like Bobby Layne and Dick "Night Train" Lane would be ashamed if they were alive to witness last years total Fordification of the Lions.

I am still predicting a Wings-Sharks final in the West

I have this feeling that the Calgary Flames or Blackhawks may screw it up.

Every year, there's a team that comes out of nowhere.

Edmonton in 2006. Anaheim in 2003.

In hockey, the chalk doesn't always win out.

My son was listing to the Wings radio broadcast on the net and they had Mac as the color guy. My son said that he seemed to enjoy it and was good at it. So perhaps he is looking beyond hockey.

I would be, If I were him. I don't see him getting much ice time in Detroit if any. Our wingers have done a good job of standing up for themselves this season, making "enforcement" a moot point.

The Rangers will be joining them. But unfortunately, we'll have the same coach.

Sandra

The Rangers will probably make the playoffs.

Probably wont get far, but they will make it.

What really ticks me off is that the Pens have the two best players in hockey(Crosby and Malkin), and probably on of the best goalies in hockey, but they wont get a good winger for Crosby. Come on Duprie is a checking line player, not a top line player. They make Malkin leave his center position to play winger for Crosby because they don't have a good winger for Crosby.

Their D is soft, except for Orpik, they don't hit. Maybe with Gonchar back their power play will be better, but they are still soft at D.

Fleury also needs a good D in front of him, plus some offensive players need to play D.

With the loss of Roberts, Rutuu and Malone, the pens don't scare teams anymore. Staal can't play in front of the net like Malone and Roberts.

Plus Satan was/is a bust, he is terrible, I wish they would trade him now. IMO Staal and Whitney will be traded in the off season, and Satan will be gone, only one year deal.:up

Aside from Hossa, isn't the only tangible thing missing from the Cup finals run last year Sergei Gonchar? The loss of Gonchar was absolutely huge. He'll settle the defense and the power play down.

Despite the standings, I think the Penguins are not in horrible shape. If they get the 'new coach bounce' and Gonchar returns, they could definitely make the playoffs. And after that, they are not a team I would want to play.

Rutuu, Malone and Roberts are missing, they were so big in the big hits and standing in front of the net.

Rutuu was to the Pens as Avery was to the Rangers, except less of a A**hole.

Plus it was ridiculous that they spent so much time trying to get Hossa, the offered 7 years and $52 million, but he took one year. He obviously made the right choice.

Speaking of potential broadcasters from the Wings players....did anyone catch Conklin during the FSN game last week. They said this was his "first", and that he will be on more in the future. First we need to win THE CUP :)

The Detoit Free Press reported yesterday that Ken Holland was confident they they will re-sign Hossa and Franzen to long term deals. The casualties may be Hudler and Samuelson, both of which are having fine seasons. I would hate to see Hudler go, but Hossa and Franzen are better. Hossa has been phenominal!

Another win last night for the Wings, Houssa also dropped the gloves a bit last night as well. Five 20 goal scores for the wings!!

WHO WANTS CHRIS PRONGER???

The Ducks have sunken to a new low and are all but dead for the playoffs. Their lockerroom last night after the embarassing loss to the surging young Kings was like a morgue. They know it's over. An 8 game road trip against the likes of Detroit while they are spiraling out of control only assures them of being out of the playoffs just 2 years after raising Lord Stanley's Cup.

So...now they look for some new blood...and Chris Pronger is definitely the number one piece of trade meat they are swinging on the racks until March 4th.
