NFL 2008-09 Season

THE 2 weakest teams left on their schedule is houston and chicago and i don't see them beating either team. you never know.

After actually looking at thier schedule (after I posted the 0-16 comment
I really don't see any games they they should be favored left on their schedule.

The teams that you would normally expect them to have a chance against, have improved drastically.
Normally you would think they would split against the division teams, but not this year, Bears, Vikings and Pack are all better this year.
Anythiong can happen and the chances of going 0 fer are slim as somsone will slip up and not be playing as well as they are now, Maybe Houston, but they are only 3 weeks away and are playing pretty good, maybe Tampa, maybe not.

They use to play very well on Thanksgiving, but not in the last 10 years and they have Tennessee this year, that ain't happening, Titans are a playoff team this year.

Any thoughts Paul, or other Lion's fans ???

I see a slight chance this weekend, see as that we beat the Bears twice last year, but this is a Bears team with a healthy defense and a running game this season. Maybe against Minnesota, at home. (Ours, I'm not even sure the Lions have beaten the Vikings in their stadium in my lifetime!)
Let me reprise my game -by-game analysis from my season preview, with some seriousness this time;):

Houston - this team has won maybe 7 games on the road in the last 7yrs. No point in starting now.

Washington - Didn't these score 50+ on us last year? This year it's in our stadium, and that loss is still on their minds. Not a good thing, because they're thinking "those guys really whipped are us last year, and now they're better." Another loss.

Chicago - Like I said, this team has won maybe 7 games on the road.....Loss.

Jacksonville - The Lions always win won they were supposed to lose, maybe this is the one? Yeah, right.

Carolina - I originally said the Lions would win this one. I was drinking the Millen Kool-Aid then. Loss.

Tampa Bay - TB comes to town with the Tampa Two defense, we have the Tampa Too defense - our defense is almost completely comprised of Tampa Bay castoffs.
Need I say it? Loss.

Tennessee - Upset city! My stomach that is. After the Lions lose, I'll stuff myself beyond belief, and scold my wife for letting me eat too much. This will be the one the Lions should lose, but win.

Minnesota - We win one, but only cause Adrian Peterson pulls a Forest Gump and runs out of the stadium after a TD. City of Detroit throws a parade, for the Lions. They line everybody back up from the Thanksgiving Day parade.

Indianapolis - Can you spell "beatdown"? The Lions wake up from the dream, and discover they're having another nightmare.

New Orleans - Consider this a moral victory if the Lions can hold NO under 48 pts.

Green Bay - This is like going to Minnesota - not sure if we have won there in my lifetime.

Maybe 3 wins, Bears, Vikings, and Tennessee. I'm probably wrong. I really can't see them losing all 16. Worst teams have tried and failed. This team is seriously worse than last season, how could that happen? Like I said before, the more it changes, the more things stay the same. Think about this: they lost their first 3 games all against guys making their first NFL start at QB. If it weren't so funny, I'd be crying.

Paul,

do you think Detroit's 50+ year streak of bad football compares with the Rangers' 54-year Stanley Cup drought from 1940-1994?

The Lions are a few years away from breaking the Rangers' epic drought.

When will Detroit get their first win of the year, if at all?

I actually think the Lions have a legitamite shot at winning this weekend.

They play the Bears at home. "The Bottle" doesn't play as well on the road and DT, Tommy Harris and CB, Charles Tillman are out with injuries. Both should favor the Lions. This will be the best shot at a win for a while IMO.

Last time the Bears traveled to Ford Field, Detroit had 34-points in the fourth quarter, an NFL record for most points in a quarter.

I'm sure Paul still has fond memories of that game.

Despite the pitiful start by the Bengals, they will get a mostly national audience to show how bad they are. Since this is a rare Cowboys game for CBS, they are putting their top broadcast team of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms on the game.

And fortunately, the Bengals don't have FIVE nationally televised prime-time games to show how bad they are. Talk about a waste of airtime.

My son's will be alive to see the Lions surpass the Cubs epic 100 year drought! 54 years will a walk in the park. It will take at least 4 years to clean up the mess MILLEN left. They only got 2 starters out of last season's draft. Do the math.
