NFL 2008-09 Season

I cannot give you a year, but it use to be when in OT you played an entire quarter, basically a 5th quarter (I know it's no longer a quarter then, but hey it's not my call :D)
If they were still tied (in the playoffs) you would go another.
I remember KC and I think it was Miami back in , oh , I'd say the '70's played what seemed like forever.

Jimbo

Jimbo,

Is that the Christmas Day playoff game you're referring to?

I'm sorry if this offends Giants fan, but I am rooting for your team to fall flat on your faces.

I would rather burn in hell before I ever give them credit for the Super Bowl.

Anyone who says they're the best in football right now- Rams, Bengals. Not exactly the greatest of opponents.

Bill, let's wait until they play a REAL team!

Come back to me after they play Philly, Pittsburgh and Dallas.

I'm sorry, but Tom Coughlin is the worst coach to EVER win a Super Bowl- they won in spite of him, ala Barry Switzer with the Cowboys.

Just bustin your grapes Bill.

That Browns/Bengals game was almost torturous to watch. The sad thing is that I know we have more talent than this, but we're playing downright pathetic right now. Your rankings are perfectly justifiable.

I'm usually not one to jump on the QB or Coach at the first sign of poor team performance, but I'm really starting to wonder how things would be different with Brady Quinn under center. I think it's safe to say that the defenses have now figured out how to adjust for Derek Anderson and his record setting performance last year, may have been an aberration.

Both the Bengals and the Browns should be better, but they're only as good as they are playing, and that's awful.

I think you are right about Anderson. I know it was windy at the the game last December, but he was only a shadow of what he was the first time they played each other. Last Sunday was even worse. Beware the backup QB, though. Ryan Fitzpatrick was terrible last week.

This coming from the guy that had the Arizona Cardinals  as his #1 team.

You obviously have something against the Giants, because this is the third or fourth scathing post you've had about them.

You don't think they deserve to be on top of the power rankings (TOTALLY meaningless, BTW. It's all in fun)? That's fine, I can live with that and you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

BUT my OPINION stands. And why not? The Giants are one of three undefeated teams, but as far as I know, they're the only one that's defending Super Bowl champions. A team that beat a previously undefeated team in the Super Bowl.

You forgot about the Skins. That same Washington team just beat the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants ARE indeed legit. And they posses something that I think gives them a slight edge over the others in the NFC East: Defense. Even with Osi going down and Strahan retiring, Justin Tuck is stepping up in their absence. (Tuck was my pick for Defensive Player of the Year at the beginning of the season btw). I still think the NY Football Giants will still be a force to be reckoned with (if Plaxico doesn't tear the locker room apart with his antics), until this seasons' end.

I have looked and looked and can't find that it was ever any different than it is now. College of course was just a tie after the regulation but as far as the NFL I can't find anything that says they played a full 15min extra quarter.

I agree the Giants are legit, but who beats who isn't always the best indicator:

Broncos beat Raiders (badly)
Raiders beat Chiefs (badly)
Chiefs beat Broncos

Doesn't make sense, but it happened.

Ok, fine. How about them being the defending Super Bowl Champions? I just think they need to be given a little bit of respect until proven otherwise.

That is why I say ONE GAME this NFL season does not make you BAD or GOOD.

I would be one of those who didn't give the New York Football Giants the respect they're due. (Hard to give respect to a team that was lucky to get out of Detroit with a win last season.) The Super Bowl and their start this season has changed my mind though.

I was watching an NFL Films show on something supposing that Bobby Layne cursing the Lions after their '57 title.

Paul, do YOU believe in a Lions curse?

NFL playoff OT has always been sudden death. The 1958 NFL CG was the first sudden death game. The only times playoff games have gone beyond 15 mins of OT was when neither team scored in the OT. The Panthers win over the Rams in 2003 was the last time a game went 2 OT's.

Ocho Stinko Wants to Kiss the Star

"That's America's team. It's one of the greatest organizations ever. This week, to show my respect for Dallas and its owner, Jerry Jones, I'm going to score and I'm going to kiss the star. I'm telling you, I'm not being rude about anything, I'm going to kiss the star. It's going to be fun. I'm excited to go to Dallas. You know, T.O., you've got two of the don't-know-what-is-going-to-happen-next receivers playing. It's going to be fun."

I guess Chad feels intimidated by not being the loudest receiver in a football game. Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens has had his own issues with the media this week so it makes sense for Ochocinco to get a little antsy. Lord knows we need something to get excited about from this matchup.

Despite the pitiful start by the Bengals, they will get a mostly national audience to show how bad they are. Since this is a rare Cowboys game for CBS, they are putting their top broadcast team of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms on the game.

Just saw an article about that this morning in the Detroit News. Can't say I believe in curses, besides the Lions are now entering their 51st season of ineptitude. What I do believe in is bad management. (I don't practice it, I just believe it exists in the Lions front office).:D
