Wow, this is the weird thing about preseason games...the teams are wearing the same uniforms as regular season games, the fans are paying the same price as regular season games...but that's where he relationship to the regular season ends.

The main outcome of preseason games is individual battles between players fighting for the same position on a team...more often than not backup positions. And, of course, injuries.

Most of the rest is not what it seems.

Sandra

2 exhibition games are enough. I remember when they played 6 exhibition games, that's 6 times the risk of a season ending injury for a meaningless game.

I was really hoping the 18 game schedule would come out of the new CBA. Same amount of games, just 2 less preseason farces at full price. Let them play practice "exhibition" games with each other with no crowd, if they must have more than 2.

Not really, since starters don't play them like real games it would be six times the opportunity to prove you should keep your spot as 3rd string (fill in the position).

Money for nothing: prior to trade Lee Evans earned - and was paid - a $1 million roster bonus and $100,000 workout bonus from the Bills.

Those folks in Buffalo sure aren't the smart ones are they?

here's another stat which shows you why the preseason doesn't mean much. sparano is 9-3 in preseason. not bad huh?????? when it counts.... 25-23 :haha

Evans has not been that productive (just two 1,000 yard seasons and not a lot of touchdowns).

He has had only one good game- 265 yards and 2 touchdowns of 83 yards in a 2006 game against the Texans.

The Ravens can have him- we're fine with Steve Johnson..

Updated salary cap numbers per Bill Williamson on the AFC West blog for ESPN..

NFL.com has updated salary-cap numbers for each team in 2011. The numbers are interesting because the free-agent signing period is mostly over, though teams are still making the occasional addition. Don’t expect these teams to spend their cap money just because. The average amount of cap room for teams is currently around $11 million.

Let’s look at each AFC West team’s cap situation, in order of cap room:

Kansas City

Cap room: $32,984,542

What it means: The Chiefs have the most cap room in the NFL. They have done a great job. They signed several key players and locked up linebacker Tamba Hali. Kansas City can now look to lock up players such as Brandon Flowers and Brandon Carr if it wishes.

Denver

Cap room: $24,302,469

What it means: The Broncos likely won’t spend much of its surplus. But it has flexibility to add a defensive tackle if need be.

Oakland

Cap room: $5,311,249

What it means: The Raiders have enough room to add a veteran like linebacker Lofa Tatupu or cornerback Kelvin Hayden if they wish.

San Diego

Cap room: $2,864,800

What it means: The Chargers can’t do much, but they weren’t planning to do much, anyway. If they need someone, they can get him.

Do you understand why I posted that? The Bills paid him $1.1 million dollars and then traded him. USUALLY, teams will trade a person BEFORE they pay him a lot of money.

NFL.com Blogs » Blog Archive Updated cap space for all 32 teams «

Sorry it did not appear pretty...but you get the numbers there clearly.

This is what Derek Havens of PatsFans.com thinks the Patriots roster will look like:

Quarterbacks - Tom Brady, Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett
Running Backs - Ben-Jarvus Green-Ellis, Danny Woodhead, Shane Vereen, Stevan Ridley
Wide Receivers – Wes Welker, Chad Ochocinco, Deion Branch, Julian Edelman, Taylor Price, Matthew Slater
Tight Ends - Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Lee Smith
Offensive Line - Sebastian Vollmer, Logan Mankins, Dan Koppen, Matt Light, Nate Solder, Dan Connolly, Marcus Cannon, Rich Ohrnberger, Ryan Wendall
Defensive Line - Albert Haynesworth, Vince Wilfork, Shaun Ellis, Kyle Love, Myron Pryor, Mike Wright
Defensive Line / Linebackers - Jermaine Cunningham, Andre Carter, Eric Moore, Mark Anderson, Rob Ninkovich
Linebackers - Jerod Mayo, Brandon Spikes, Gary Guyton, Dane Fletcher, Tracy White
Cornerbacks - Devin McCourty, Leigh Bodden, Kyle Arrington, Darius Butler, Ras-I Dowling
Safeties - Pat Chung, Brandon Meriweather, James Sanders, Sergio Brown
Specialists - Stephen Gostkowski (k), Zoltan Mesko (P), Matt Katula (LS)

Personally, I hope the pats go with five receivers and keep Kevin Faulk. However, If they don't, I'd prefer Brandon Tate over Matt Slater.

A team with a 4-12 record gave away a player in his prime. A team with a 12-4 record turned around and added the player in his prime to their team. That right there should tell you something.

Maybe it wasn't Lee Evans? Maybe it was the Buffalo Bills?

Brandon Tate can be very useful in more ways than just running. He can be a kick return threat, returning 2 kickoffs for touchdowns last year.

NFL Overnight News:

-The Bills continue to trim their roster by cutting former 11th pick, LB Aaron Maybin. Teams interested include the Jets and Bears.

-The NFL supplemental draft originally scheduled for Wednesday (today) has been postponed. The new date is not yet set.

-Seahawks have signed former Packers safety Atari Bigby.

-It's John Beck's turn as Redskins starting QB. He starts Washington's next preseason game. Meanwhile, Carson Palmer is sitting at home. I bet Daniel Snyder would pay a fortune for a QB right about now! Dumb Cincy.

-Bengals terminate contract of DT Tank Johnson

-RB, Chris Johnson still holding out in Tennessee, but negotiating for new contract.

-Treasure to Trash: Saints release Jon Stinchcomb -- signed him two years ago to 5-yr, $22.5M deal with $12M guaranteed.

Probably waiting on the Pryor decision, I'm guessing.................

Wish I had 30K a day to blow on just sitting around, waiting for more money!!!!

Suh fined $20k for his hit on Dalton.

His response on Twitter?

That is a joke. From his angle he couldn't see if the ball was out of Dalton's hand or not. He just finished the tackle. It didn't look like a dirty play to me but I can see the penalty if they thought he went to far. A $20,000 fine for the play is ridiculous though. I know quarterbacks are the face of the NFL but these days a player can't breathe on them without getting a penalty or fine.
