That is a joke. From his angle he couldn't see if the ball was out of Dalton's hand or not. He just finished the tackle. It didn't look like a dirty play to me but I can see the penalty if they thought he went to far. A $20,000 fine for the play is ridiculous though. I know quarterbacks are the face of the NFL but these days a player can't breathe on them without getting a penalty or fine.

The angle doesn't really matter, you can't drag a QB to the ground by his head. Guessing the fine would have probably been less if it was a first offense, but he was fined $7500 for a hit on Delhomme last season.

The play from last year was much worse than this one. I saw it live and again on your link there and it just doesn't look like a dirty play to me. He couldn't tell the ball was out and finished the play by bring the quarterback to the ground. The play from last year was to much and he shouldn't have done that.

Either way its just silly to have different rules for tackling players based on which position they play in my opinion.

The QB could have still had the ball in his hand and the flag and fine would have been the same, you can't grab someone by the head and then take them down by it.

You might have seen a flag and fine for that tackle on any other ball carrier too, it was pretty dirty. Might not have intended it to be, but any tackle that begins with 'wrap your arms around their helmet' and also includes 'jump in the air to pur pressure on their head and back so they crumple and can then be flung to the ground' probably will regularly make a player's wallet lighter.

Yup, you can't touch them, you can't tackle below the knees, you can't hit them above the shoulders, you can't actually LAND on them.

Yes, the Powder puff football league is back.

Next time Suh gets a chance to tackle the QB, he should just land on him instead of taking him down ... that too would be a penalty.

I agree, the NFL doesn't want their top paid players, QBs, to get hurt.

I think they don't want anyone getting hurt, and the players that have to make themselves the most vulnerable to do their jobs (QBs, Kickers) are the most protected because of that reason.

Did you guys even watch that link? This isn't about becoming a powder puff league or being a woosie or anything like that. Suh almost snapped Delhomme's head off! The NFL is trying to prevent life altering injuries and death!

No he should of got the flag for a personal foul but IMO the NFL is getting carried away with all these fines and to quote Jack Lambert "we better put skirts on the QBs".

Pretty soon the NFL is going to be like arena football all offense and no defense.

This has MORE to do with the owners than anything else. With the money the skilled players are getting, they do not want their HUGE investment out for half the season or even GOD forbid, and entire season.

Back in the 80s and 90s, the QBs were not paid anything like they get paid now. As much as I dislike this myself, can you really blame the owners? They gotta protect their most prized players....the QB.

And somehow big Ben keeps getting hit but nothing happens to the players except for the broken nose.

Big Ben has the same issues Shaq had and the issues Lebron has. They are big strong guys and for some reason, ref/league officials think that 'hey, those are big guys...all those other little guys hitting really can't be doing much'. LOL! As funny as that seems, they talked about that during the NBA season and they said something about that the other day on the NFL Network. If a QB gets slapped in the head by a 'puny DB', it's still a penalty even if the QB is 6-6 250 pounds. No different if a small forward in the NBA is built like a TE and a little 5-10, 175 PG slaps his hand while taking a shot...guess what, it's STILL a foul.

If they are going to fine someone for hitting Brady or Manning in the head then they should fine someone for hitting Ben but they don't. If a D players even looks at Brady wrong they get a flag someone broke Ben's nose and not one flag. It's a double standard. IMO If you grab the face mask or do a Mean Joe Green head slap then they should get a flag but putting your hand on their helmet is ridicules to call.

BTW....I'm ready for some Steeler football.

Just a bit of insight from some scouts/NFL guru's that I heard from on Sirius NFL this morning. They were breaking down the Rookie/Sophomore NFL QB's. By far THE WORST of the bunch, they were all in agreement was Andy Dalton. Saying he has zero arm strength, accuracy, technique, etc and his mechanics were absolutely dreadful. Said that he wasn't even stepping into his throws, looked lost and scared for his life. They were all in agreement that in order for Dalton to have a shot, he needs to be taught all over again on how to throw a football. I can't believe they are saying something like that about a guy who may very well have to be thrust into the starting position this year for Cincy!!! LOL!

Why would news about an NFL Supplemental Draft be more appropriate for the Pryor thread? It's perfectly relevant here.

It was a joke, with you saying the royals don't belong in the AL central thread maybe I should of put a :D up but I thought you would of got it. Next time I'll use on of these. :D

Because once he is drafted, he IMMEDIATELY suspended for the 1st 5 games....

"... Pryor made decisions that undermine the integrity of the eligibility rules for the NFL Draft. Those actions included failing to cooperate with the NCAA and hiring an agent in violation of NCAA rules, which resulted in Ohio State declaring him ineligible to continue playing college football.

"Pryor then applied to enter the NFL after the regular draft. Pryor had accepted at the end of the 2010 college football season a suspension for the first five games of the 2011 season for violating NCAA rules. Pryor will be ineligible to practice prior to or play in the first five games of the NFL regular season after he signs."
