SatelliteGuys.US DishNetwork Uplink Activity Discussion - Week Ending 08/25/2007

For the record, the STARZ freebie was turned on this morning and

376 FOXNW MOVED FROM Tp 8 ConUS beam on EchoStar 5 at 129w
TO Tp 27 ConUS beam on EchoStar 5 at 129w

You clearly haven't checked your Signal Strength recently. They clearly moved TP27's ID to a stronger transponder a week or two ago.

Well, I'm sure not seeing a stronger TP27 here in the PNW area. A 45-point swing in clear weather on a 20-minute cycle...from a high of 50 to a low of 5 from a 24", very carefully peaked dish??? If that's a stronger TP now than it was a week or two ago, then that 129 sat is truly and utterly a decaying, malfunctioning, barely operational piece of excrement. I'm shocked it's even able to remain in a geosync orbit...

Thanks JohnH, my HTPC/Uplink machine blew the all the caps on the PCI-E video card.

It's still under warranty but may take some time. Trying to piece together a PC before Wednesday.

OK. I would try to count HD channels. [08/17/07]

1. MPEG-2 [27]:

2. "For ViP Only" MPEG-2 [8]:

3. H.264 {MPEG-4} [249]:

Legend: 1st - name, 2nd - ch#, 3rd - tpn, 4th - sat, 5th - remap ch#.

WOW - DISH HAS 284 HD channels - take that Rupert!!;)

When did you last check ?

Every time I've checked this week, 27 has only been a few points less than 30. Right now:

31 - 58
30 - 51
27 - 47
23 - 45
22 - 41
19 - 56 (the new natl hd channels)
18 - 37 (way less than tp 27)
11 - 41

which is close to what I've seen every time I've checked this past week.

Last night, after I read your post, I sat and watched TP27 through a 20-minute cycle...low of 5 (no signal), high of 50. And that was with clear skies. It's overcast tonight, so it'd probably be a bit worse...

That's odd ... I'm not that far from you ... I'm starting to think there is some sort of hardware combination that doesn't work well with 129 (or even just TP 27).

1030 am PT

N of Seattle and 27 has just dropped of the chart...reading ZERO...

24" dish...but, I've only been waiting since June 14th, 2006 for a remedy to this problem, and paying for it every month!

I've been waiting since April of '06 for them to fix it, and yep, paying for it every month. It is a bit more tolerable with a 24" dish...at least I can watch HD without quite as many drop-outs, and when they do occur, the duration of the LOS is only 1-3 minutes (average) instead of 3-7 minutes like it used to be prior to the 24" dish. However, when the fall/winter rains set in, I expect the drop-outs to happen more frequently and last longer. :(

Last night something major seemed to be happening with tp27 as it was down from approx 5pts to 0 for a much longer time than the normal wobble.
