NFL 2008-09 Season

Lets face it, the Giants were lucky to win. Five trips to the red zone and only one touchdown. They were stopped on a goal line stance. Their offense wasn't that good, their defense kept them in the game.
More like the Steelers were lucky to not have been blown out. The Giants wore them out in the 4th Quarter and if the Giants had been cashing in on all those trips to the red zone the game would have been a rout.

Should of, Would of, could of. The reason the Steelers were terrible in the 4th is because they had to pass, the Giants new it and loaded up on the line.

The Giants won this one, but their offense didn't impress me.

I was actually impressed with the Steelers, seeing they didn't have the Starting RB, Center, WR, Long snapper and injured Punter too and Most of the secendery was injured thruout the game.

Thats 7 starters out, the Giant's should have blown them out easily.
The Steeler's almost won that game, leading late in the game.

I agree, frankly I think the injury that hurt the Steelers the most was the long snapper. That safety turned everything around IMO.

Call me crazy, but I see the Titans pulverizing the Colts on Monday Night.

Do not be stunned if this is a rout.

No Bob Sanders, no Joseph Addai, can't stop the run or pass, on the road against a phenomenal running team.

(Remember the Jacksonville game in 2006?)

There is NO WAY IN HELL the Titans will lose.

Prediction- Titans 41 Colts 13

Some observations of the few games I saw(worked ALL night saturday and my game watching took a back seat to sleeping):

My Raiders: Well, I didn't have a good feeling about this game IF they had McFadden...and they didn't. The feeling was solidified when he was weaing regular clothing. Our so-called strength was their defensive strength.

I do have one question, on two occassions, the Raiders ran balls out of bounce, the clock stopped and then restarted. WHY??!! Doesn't the clock start AFTER the snap after the previous play was either out of bounce or an incomplete pass?

The Dolphins/Bills game: Once again...Jekyl/Hyde....ya never know with this team but I bet Miami fans are enjoying watching this team.
SABRE is NO LONGER allowed to use the phrase, "this team/player OWNS them" ....he is OH-for-TWO using that little phrase!;)

Steelers/Giants: I was with a Giants fan and a Steelers fan watching some of the game and there was all this harp on average yards given up and so on and so forth. The ONLY thing that anyone should worry about when it comes to defense: total points ALLOWED....period. I am a firm believer of "bend but don't break defense".

NFL Week 8: Monday Morning QB Thoughts

1. The Giants vs. Steelers game may have been a preview to Super Bowl XLIII.

2. When will the Giants get respect from Sabresrule? They just beat one of the best teams in the AFC fair and square. The Giants Defense is without 2 of their best players from last year (Umenyiora and Strahan) and still dominated the Steelers offense by committing 5 sacks, 4 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles.

3. Favre threw 3 interceptions yesterday and the Kansas City Chiefs STILL lost to the Jets. Man, these Chiefs are BAD!

4. Did anyone see the post game press conference with SFO coach, Mike Singeltary? His ex-coach, Mike Ditka would be proud!

5. Don't look now, but after losing their first 3, the Browns have won 3 out of their last 4. In 5 of their 7 games this season, the Browns defense has held their opponents to under 17 points. But in order to sustain this success, their offense needs to play more consistent and that starts with QB, Derek Anderson.

6. The Browns are 2-0 now when Kellen Winslow is not in the lineup. Could this be similar to the "Shockey Effect" that the Giants benefited from with him on the bench last year?

7. I realize the Lions lost and remain winless at 0-7, but they did manage to score in the first quarter for the first time this season. That's a positive, I think.

8. Another interesting stat from the Lions' game: In Detroit's seven losses, six quarterbacks have had a career-high passer rating against them.

9. The NFC West imay be the worst division in the NFL. Arizona may finally get back to the playoffs this year shearly by default.

10. The Pat's continue to hang around and are now tied for first in the AFC East. At 5-2 with Cassel at the helm, they continue to somehow find a way to win.

Daze of our Lions

#1 - HD MM said the Lions managed to score in the first Q. Yeah, for the first time this season, and it took a Washington fumble deep in our zone for it to happen. Even a blind squirrel finds an occasional nut.

#2 - This defense continues to make opposing QB's look like Tom Brady. Campbells rating -122.7 a career high.

#3 - Ball control offense was supposed to be the game plan this season. 24 minutes of possesion, and 57 yds. of rushing. Maybe ball control meant they bought better jock straps.

#4 - Look for Drew Stanton to start when Jacksonville comes to town. Nothing puts fannies in the seats around here like a new QB. Outside of Thanksgiving day, I don't see anymore sell-outs, which means that I will have a few open Sundays to continue house hunting.

#5 - I'm running out of adjectives to describe this team.

#6 - It's possible (I'm not ready to declare this as fact), just possible, that the Bungles are even worse than the Lions are. Houston whipped us, but what they did to the Bungles wasn't right. I hope I'm wrong, I don't want the number 2 pick, or any excuse to keep Marinelli as coach. Yes, 1 or 2 wins might be enough for Ford to keep him.

#7 - First question for any potential GM candidate-
Will you retain Marinelli, and the scouting staff? If the answer is yes, the next statement should be - NEXT!

In our next episode of "Daze of our Lions" -
Will the Lions finally win a game? Does Marinelli get the hook? Does hell freeze over? Stay tuned for next week in "Daze of our Lions".

I actually thought that the Redskins might be looking past Detroit to next week's big Monday Night Showdown with Pittsburgh.

More on this....

Anderson’s two good games coincided with one other criterium: the absence of Kellen Winslow in the lineup. As Kevin Boss scored the winning touchdown for the Giants, I had to wonder… is Kellen Winslow (rightly or wrongly painted so) the 2008 version of Jeremy Shockey? Look how much better Eli Manning has played since Shockey broke his leg and subsequently never played another down for the Giants. They’ve lost only twice since then (one an essentially meaningless game in week 17 against the undefeated Pats, and ironically the other to DA and the Browns two Mondays ago).

We all know how “emotional” and “competitive” and “fiery” Winslow is. We all know how talented he is. We all know that he works harder than just about any other player on the Browns team, and pound-for-pound might be the most talented player on the team. That said, in the five games DA has played WITH Winslow this season, his numbers are:

72-154, 679 yards, 4 TD, 6 INT - 51.84 rating

Without Winslow, his numbers are:

32-56, 556 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT - 108.93 rating

The numbers never lie. But, what does all of this mean?? Is it really Winslow? Or, is it just a coincidence, and is it really that when DA’s back is against the wall (job-security-wise, anyway) he plays just well enough to buy himself some more time, a la Peter Gibbons’ “that’ll make someone work just hard enough not to get fired”?

They were. Otherwise the score would have been more lopsided. When you look at the numbers from this game, you'll discover that the Lions really were not in this game, either. I'm betting it was a lack of execution on Washington's part that kept the score close. I didn't see the game, when I turned it on at halftime on my radio, I was surprised to hear we were winning. I told my wife that i'd bet that Wash. had turned the ball over, leading to the TD, and I'd bet they followed that with there usual 3-and out offense. (Turns out I was basically right). I also told her by the time we came out of the next house we would be looking at, that the Lions would be taking a beatdown. And I was right again. I think they were down about 10 pts. or so by then. A late TD (Washington looking ahead?) made it seem closer than it really was.

Peter King was on today's Dan Patrick radio show, and DP asked him who would win first, Cincinnati or Detroit. After stating that there would probably not be an 0-16 team this year, he went on to "guarantee" that Detriot would win at least one game!!!...:shocked

I almost drove my car into the guardrail on I-65!!!...!sadroll
