NFL 2008-09 Season

Any of you familiar with America's Game: The Super Bowl Champions?

Well, I heard they had a spin-off titled The Missing Rings, which looks at the 5 best teams to never win the Super Bowl?

Some of their choices are good (1998 Vikings, 1969 Vikings) and my Bills of 1990 are on the list (believe me, they did a lot of good- I know they missed the FG, but they came closer than the others), but others are pretty stupid.

The 1988 Bengals and the 1981 Chargers are the other two teams.

Here are my problems:

The 1981 Chargers were not as good as the 1980 team.

The 1988 Bengals?! What about LAST YEAR'S PATRIOTS?!

I'm thinking that maybe it's just for teams that didn't win championships? (the Patriots did, with pretty much the same nucleus)

That 1990 Bills team should top the list. They were L-O-A-D-E-D on both sides of the ball.

I think todays proves once and for all, what an unpredictable season this truly is:

A. The Rams are ahead of the Cowboys, 31-7 early in the fourth quarter!

B. The Bears and vikings, of all teams, have combined for 79 points, and there's still nearly an entire quarter left to play!:eek:

Tennessee and Pittsburgh also with impressive wins, although against admittedly inferior opponents than the Chargers.

Thoughts on the Early Sunday Games:

1. Unable to bring you thoughts on SD/BUF due to "Technical Issues". :)

2. Guess the Rams just needed a coaching change, heck in the NFC West they are now a threat.

3. Since when did the Vikings and Bears join the WAC.

4. Numbers wise he's not dominating, but Ben Roethlisberger is the first half MVP.

I watched the Buffalo/Chargers game. What power outage are you talking about? I watched it until the end of the game on Sunday Ticket.

Thoughts on the Late Sunday Games:

1. The first half of the CLE/WASH game was maybe the worst half of football in a decade.

2. There may be hope in Raiderland yet.

3. Guess the Colts aren't quite back.

4. Let's go Red Sox. :D

The discipline SUCKED beyond human belief.....at the rate the Raiders were going, I thought they were gonna have about 20 penalties.....

....they fought through that and showed some heart for the win. :):clap:clap
....there was a Javon Walker sighting.
....eventhough they almost blew the game with terrible penalties, the defense played VERY well.
....ok, victory celebration is over. Time to worry about the nastiest defense in the NFL.:(

Sorry I haven't posted today, but I had a severe internet connection problem.

As soon as I can get things together, I'll post my thoughs on today's games.

What an odd week for NFL?
Raiders win the game with a god like 57 yd FG.
Cowgirls get their ass handed to them...all that talent but no competitive secondary QB backup.

Colts have the worst D in the league right beside KC, they got their ass handed to them by Rodgers and crew.

SD loss to the Bills, wow, I missed the first 2 QT's of the game (I have ST).

Browns just can't get it going, Winslow is back, but they can't pickup a win...

Bengals, wow you guys are sad.

How about a 90+ point game Chicago vs Minnesota? I thought this game would have been like 20-27...but damn...just clearly shows both D's didn't perform well.

Miami wildcat ain't working against Baltimore, no sir!

Overall a weird week...

My random thoughts on today's action:

1. The Indianapolis Colts are in big trouble. They're not clicking on offense, can't stop the run, and have tons of injuries. And they have to go on the road to face a phenomenal running team in the Titans on the road... on a Monday night, no less? I'm calling for a BLOWOUT- the Colts will get CRUSHED!

2. The Browns may have lost, but they showed more heart than the Cowboys did- that is not an easy field goal. 54 yards? I couldn't make that if I had a thousand tries.

3. Seattle is in for a long season.

4. St. Louis, if they can stay hot, may be the only threat to challenge Arizona in the NFC West

5. Whoda thunk that Vikings/Bears would be a shootout?

6. Kyle Orton is a BEAST! Grossman was clearly holding back the Bears- if Orton had been their QB in 2006, they win the Super Bowl, IMO.

7. Next week's Giants/Steelers game, IMO, will be this year's first 'big game,' like Patriots/Cowboys, Patriots/Colts, and Packers/Cowboys were last year.

8. Kansas City, IMO, may have used up all their energy this year on beating Denver. After what I saw today, they may not win again. Can't wait for that Chiefs/Raiders game- loser drafts #4!

The Titans look TOUGH this year. Goes to show you, that if you can run the ball and play defense, you will have success in this league. The Titans do both well. Both LenDale White and Chris Johnson will run all over that porous Indy run defense next week.

2. The Browns may have lost, but they showed more heart than the Cowboys did- that is not an easy field goal. 54 yards? I couldn't make that if I had a thousand tries. "WIDE RIGHT"! I'm sure Buffalo fans can relate to that famous call. ;)

3. Seattle is in for a long season. That they are.

4. St. Louis, if they can stay hot, may be the only threat to challenge Arizona in the NFC West. Let's not get crazy now.

5. Whoda thunk that Vikings/Bears would be a shootout? Shocking, I know.

6. Kyle Orton is a BEAST! Grossman was clearly holding back the Bears- if Orton had been their QB in 2006, they win the Super Bowl, IMO. The Bottle is indeed playing well right now. What great strides this guy has made since years previous.

7. Next week's Giants/Steelers game, IMO, will be this year's first 'big game,' like Patriots/Cowboys, Patriots/Colts, and Packers/Cowboys were last year. Should be a good one, but like the Pats/Colts game last year, Cleveland will probably be without that game as the Browns play the Jags at 4pm too!

8. Kansas City, IMO, may have used up all their energy this year on beating Denver. After what I saw today, they may not win again. Can't wait for that Chiefs/Raiders game- loser drafts #4! Despite what records indicate, the Chiefs are the WORST team in the league. Both the Raiders and Bungles will demolish this team.

I was just glancing at the standings, and realized that the AFC is in shambles!

I realize that it's still fairly early, but we could have two 9-7 teams make the playoffs in the AFC this year. Only Kansas City (1-5) and Cincinnati (0-7) are pretty much out of it.

Standings going into tonight's Broncos-Pats game:

Division leaders:

Tennessee...... 6-0
Pittsburgh....... 5-1
Buffalo............ 5-1
Denver........... 4-2

Wildcard contenders:

New England..... 3-2
NY Jets.......... 3-3
Baltimore.......3-3
Indianapolis..... 3-3
Jacksonville..... 3-3
San Diego..... 3-4
Miami............ 2-4
Cleveland..... 2-4
Houston....... 2-4
Oakland....... 2-4
