NCAA Basketball 2008-09 Season

Nothing on the big UConn win

You didn't even respond to when I laid out the gauntlet. I would have given the win more credit had:

1. You posted something

2. I wasn't watching the SuperSkills competition

Dook is # 1 now. I can hear Dookie V from here

Blame Wake Forest for grossly underestimating VaTech, not Duke for doing what they HAD to do.

DAMMIT!

Anders beat me to the Alabama firing.

Anyway, long story short- amazing he lasted that long, considering they weren't that great, other than a fluky run to the Elite 8 in 2004.

Ha ha. Gotta get up early to beat me. :D

The SEC is just awful in basketball this year. It's more like a mid major conference like the Atlantic 10 or C-USA right now. Kentucky probably won't lose more than 2-3 games in conference and they aren't that good. Amazingly, Arkansas beat both Oklahoma and Texas, but are winless in the SEC.

For all the BS that SEC fans talk during football season, and all the crap that the ACC has to deal with, it's nice to see the ACC dominating in basketball and the SEC embarassing themselves. And better yet, the ACC doesn't depend on the BCS to build their mystique.

Hard to believe that Florida, just a few years ago, won back-to-back titles.

Yeah, but look at them now. They lost all their players off those NC teams and now they are barely ranked. UNC lost everyone off the 05 NC team and Roy went out and signed a monster recruiting class. Kansas lost everyone from last year and they are OK now but they will be great again next year. UConn loses lots of guys and Jim Calhoun goes out and gets more great players.

Billy Donovan should have been able to get anyone he wanted, Lord knows that what Urban Meyer does, but instead they are just an average team and their top recruit from a couple of years ago has already transferred out.

Anders, I know this is jumping the gun, but do you have any idea how they determine which team is in which region for the NCAA Tournament?

I ask this because I wonder how often North Carolina made it to the Final Four when they were not placed in the East Region, or as I like to call it, the homestate region.

It seems as if UNC always has their first and second round games in their home state.

I think if you're one the top teams you get to play as close to home as possible. Carolina's been fortunate to be a #1 seed lots of times so they get to play in the east. UCLA usually gets to play in the west. Nowadays the NCAA tries to put the top 4 seeds in each region close to home in the early rounds.

Carolina won't have it as good as they did last year when they got to play all their regional games in state. They could open up in Greensboro this year, but after that they will have to travel.

Yet another #1 goes down.

Let me make a prediction- the next #1 will be the University of Oklahoma, who will promptly lose to Texas A&M next week and then the cycle continues.

(Hancox can argue until his face turns blue, but OU is playing very good basketball)

Oh, and Wake has a pretty easy schedule from here on- Georgia Tech, Miami, Boston College, NC State, Florida State.

This is what's going to make the next 5 or 6 weeks great!

The battle for the four #1 seeds has never been more wide open.

The only prediction I will make is this: three of the four #1's will come from either the ACC or Big East.
