Mini Genie for an RV?

That is what you need. Connect it into your system and get it authorized, then move it to the rv. One caveat, you should have the same swm type setup in the rv in case you want to move the receiver back to the house. It will make the process simpler.

Just so I'm correct the H24 does not need to be on the same coax in the house? It can be hooked up to a separate dish in the rv right?

Yes, that is correct and a HR24 can as well, if you want a recorder.

Also, both mentioned do both SWM and Non SWM ... the newer recvrs, 25 ect and all Clients require the Genie to run the client, thats why you can't just take a mini to the RV.

Yes, but like I said previously, you would be wise to use a swm setup in the rv if you intend on moving the box from the rv to the house. It would involve a power inserter and probably a new lnb. Can you get the model number of the lnb, or do you know how many ports it has on it?

Tazfire,
You mentioned that you have a Slim Line dish ... are you setting this up at each point of your travels or is it going to a stationary location ?
Jut wondering ...
Like Chip has said, its easier if you can use the same type of set up in the RV as the home.

Could be an HS17, it's in customer beta in a few states. I have seen one outside the beta on a VIP account.

Well, IF it is a HR17 then we can tell him that NO he cannot move from the home to the RV and back unless he plans to move all thats involved to both.

That's what I already said....HR34, HR44, HR54 or HS17, a client is a client and won't work without a server.

I'll be setting this up at each point of travel. This whole thing is very new to me. Thanks for your help thus far.

So, have you ever set these dishes up before ?
If not, practice, practice, practice, AT HOME first, before you go out on the road.

I don't know what they consider it ... by the time we all see them they will probably give it a fancy name or something .... maybe a Platinum !

Nope, Genie 2 it is

You mentioned about practicing set up. What are the basics of set up? I see there are apps that help in locating satellites.

Most important, make sure the mast is plumb and stable. Set the elevation and skew according to the settings in the menu of the receiver/dvr. Sweep slowly with the dish slightly loose on the mast so the receiver/dvr can pick up any changes in the signal strength. When you get a good signal on 101, check the 110 and 119 signals if you have a 5 lnb, skip to the 99 and 103 signals if you don't. If the signals aren't in the 90s for all satellites except the "S" ones, dither the dish to improve the signals. Check youtube for videos on how to dither.
