Mini Genie for an RV?

If he's a Gen 2 customer with an HS17 he CAN NOT have any other DVR on the account. DirecTV won't allow it, even if it's for an RV. I have been going in circles around this myself as it is the most assinine policy DirecTV has set to date. They will make you create a 2nd account to have it.

i agree 100%, but they are mirrorng dish and the hopper3 requirements

And Directv wants to send a tech for "home" installation. Can I refuse that and just have the h24 shipped?
You can ask, but why not let them install it in your home, then move it to the rv.

What about the H 24 receivers on EBay? Are you able to purchase a card from Directv?
Warning Will Robinson, WARNING! :)
Many if not most eBay purchases are for someone else's leased unit, which you can't put on your account. If you do buy a used receiver, get the unit ID number and check with the access card department to be sure it's an owned and not leased unit. Otherwise you are buying a door stop.

I think we will stick with plan A and go directly through Directv

And at least Dish will allow a Wally on the same account with a H3 I understand, so you can use that in an RV or for tailgating.

DIRECTV's current policy of allowing *only* clients on HS17 accounts forcing you to have two accounts now for this is frankly terrible and an obvious money grab ...

IF that policy holds, you'll just see people refusing to upgrade to the HS17 (new name to follow i'm sure) if they need thier HR series recvrs ...
I am one of them.
Tell me again what this new device is going to do for my set up that I can't do without .... My current set up is working great, does exactly what I need.

That is what you need. Connect it into your system and get it authorized, then move it to the rv. One caveat, you should have the same swm type setup in the rv in case you want to move the receiver back to the house. It will make the process simpler.

The swm setup does not matter. If you set it for Sl3 it doesn't matter if it's a 3 or 5

Good morning gang,

Ok so the H24 will be here Friday for the "home" installation. As I had mentioned a few days ago the dish will be mounted on the ladder of the rv. Watching some YouTube videos I'm getting nervous about setting the dish up for the first time. I installed the Satfinder app on my phone and see there are tons of satellites to choose from. Do the apps really work? Should I buy a signal finder? I need your expert opinions on what to do for homework before I give this a shot.

Thank you for all your help thus far!

You have options ... the Apps give you a general idea, not pinpoint.
Not sure of the set up your putting on the ladder though .... in your case I may have looked at the D* version of the Wingard Automatic unit that finds the signal when you turn it on.... even though it's SD only . ... I got mine from Claude, he may have more, works well and easy.

Ps, don't park under trees

This is an actual mount that affixes right to the ladder. The 2" tube bolts right on it also allowing you to level.

And your using a SWM dish ....
As mentioned previously, set it up from scratch multiple times from home first.

Also, personally I would go with a tripod mount, this way you don't have to think about where your setting up.
Trees are not your friend when setting up, so you have to think about where your at in the park when setting up.

:welcome to Satelliteguys Tazfire!
I would see if Directv will drop ship you an additional receiver, best if it's an H24 since it doesn't need to be on a swm system like the H25 does. Tell us about your system. It's a swm type since you have a Genie, but do you know what model lnb you have? That's the device at the end of the arm of the dish. What other boxes do you have in your house? There are limits to how many you can have with certain lnbs, so if you go over that theoretical limit, Directv won't just send you another one.
Ok I just tried installing the receiver and I'm getting a message can't detect swm. Please help!
