Finally we agree...

There is an old axiom in baseball...don't believe what you see in April or September. For the NFL, don't believe what you see in August.

There is only two legitimate things about pre-season/spring training: no one is as good or bad as they look and of course, injuries. Other than that, it's all smoke and mirrors.

So glad your opinion was enlightened from last year!!! ;) :D

$80k to charity so far this preseason after week 2, though that will get reduced as these minimum salary first time offenders can have their fines reduced to 25% of a gamecheck. Broncos S Rahim Moore was fined $20k for his hit on Bills WR Jones, and Buccaneers LB Mason Foster was fined $20k for his hit on Chad Ochocinco.

I can see objections with Moore's hit on Jones, but in the end he was headhunting, he went high on a defenseless player.

When players start tackling again and stop hitting perhaps there will be fewer fines.

Ochocinco insists on reimbursing Foster because he does not agree with the fine, which could result in the first ever discipline for helping another player avoid discipline.

Also... a change in the way PED suspensions was agreed to in the last few days... masking agents are now 2 games instead of 4, which was the same punishment as being caught outright cheating. Now though if you test positive for PEDs it's a 6 game suspension. With HGH testing starting this season that could be significant.

Ochocinco wishes to pay Foster's fine

Last week, Chad Ochocinco tweeted Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Mason Foster that his first-quarter hit on the New England Patriots receiver was "great," and that Ochocinco would pay any fine the league might hand down to Foster.

That fine came Wednesday, with the league nailing Foster for $20,000. NFL rules prohibit players from paying others' fines, but that didn't stop Ochocinco from responding with a personal note to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Twitter, referring to him as "Dad."

"Dad no disrespect but I don't agree with @mason_foster fine n I'll be reimbursing him personally," @Ochocinco wrote to @nflcommish. "Please feel free to contact me."

He WAS NOT headhunting at all, he was making a play with no time to react. He's a rookie, "he just needs to learn to hit lower", says Brian Dawkins.

After looking at it a couple of times, it just doesn't seem like headhunting and more of a rookie mistake like Yaz has stated.

I'm not going to get into anything...if you want to read it, I'm sure you can go back to last year's thread. Let's just say I agree 100% with you this year and leave it at that! Everybody wins!

Sandra

Hey...YOU made the statement... I do not remember stating that win-loss results were important. IF you disagree, prove me wrong. Simple as that.

You didn't say win-loss results were important last year, but you also didn't say what you're saying this year...that other than injuries it's all smoke and mirrors. I agree with you say this year.

Sandra

Yeah, it will be interesting to see if 85 follows through, and what the NFL does. I imagine they'll have to issue a warning along the lines of either a suspension or exponentially larger fine because they can't have players undermine league discipline.

@yaz96 oh I agree, I meant the hit itself is why he was fined despite his intent, was unintentionally brief when I was making that point.

I am curious to know what I said last year....I mean you are trying to hold me to the fire for something I SUPPOSEDLY said, but you cannot seem to know what I said.

Look, I have NO ISSUES with holding me accountable for what I say...NONE. But IF you are gonna do, at least KNOW and PROVE I said something. I mean seriously....

You and I were debating the validity of preseason games. Your point was that the first team vs. first team results early in the game were important. I disagreed. That is all.

I completely agree with what you say this year, that aside from injuries it's all smoke and mirrors.

Sandra

The END RESULT....as in THE SCORE has no validity. You want to see HOW your 1st team looks against their 1st team and you gauge from there. Whenever I watch preseason, I would concentrate on the Raiders team and see how they looked and pray for no injuries.

I have always done that and stated that.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph....do you also argue about how much sugar you should put in your coffee too? How 2 teaspoons are better for you than 3?

Note to Ramy...I apologize for bringing this up at all. My mistake.

Please don't just ban us, please read the thread...as you can see I am doing my best to not to get into a ten page debate, and my main point really was that I agree with his stance this year. I'm sorry I brought up last year at all, as I should have known it would get to CAPS and everything else.

My bad...I'm going to stop the hijacking of this thread right here.

I have ALWAYS.....repeat ALWAYS stated is that the end result....the score, means NOTHING. What I have always looked for in pre-season games was that there were improvements from my teams 1st team on a weekly basis, both offense and defense and pray there is no injuries....NOTHING MORE. PERIOD. END OF STORY.

Kerry Collins - Welcome to the Colts!!!

"We don't even know him, we ain't vanilla, man, we ain't no simple offense," receiver Reggie Wayne said. "So for him to can come in here and be the starter, I don't see it. I think that's a step back."

Wayne, a five-time Pro Bowler and one of Manning's favorite targets, has supported backup Curtis Painter. And while he called Collins "a great guy," he said he was worried about the Colts getting better.

Boy, it's sure going to look strange seeing someone other than Peyton Manning at QB for the Colts...
