I have a H2K with S440. Several times when I pressed the Red Button that displays the tuner status it will say Software update and Tuner 1 will not be useable. Or it has said Guide Update and two tuners are not available, usually 1 & 2. If I go to Yellow Button-->Network Setup-->Tests-->View counters I see the lost locks count on the corresponding tuners in the hundreds. Yesterday it was 240 on tuner one. You cannot use the affected tuner when this occurs. The only way to clear it is a Red Button reset. I had a situation where recordings were set to happen on these in use tuners and I had to do the reset to make them useable. I'm unable to even select the tuner from this screen. I have seen it stay this way for several hours and it never goes away unless I do a reset. Has any one seen this? I think its a bug in the SW. Could it be a hardware issue?

I'm thinking probably hardware, and my first guess would be the node. Try unplugging the cables from the node(make sure they are all clean and not rusted or anything like that) and plug them back in securely. Want them tight but not to tight. Repeat the same steps at the coax on the hopper.

The same thing happened to us last night (9/1). Recording PTAT on Tuner 3, Tuner 1 & 2 were downloading Guide Update. This was around 10:00PM, a little early for the Guide to update. We didn't reboot and it's fine today.

The nightly reboot corrects it. Same as the red button reset.

Yes, thank you thomasjk.

I didn't mention that this happened only on one Hopper. The other Hoppers tuners were all usable during that time.

I only have one Hopper. I usually see this during the day and without a reset it would be there until the nightly update.

Guide updates are done at anytime, not in the middle of the night (2am, 3am, etc) like previous receivers.

Have you had any dvr issues of missing recordings? If the guide update keeps happening, it us possible it is happening because the box needs to update. Have you let it sit and finish and go away on its own? Or have you rebooted everytime? If you let it finish, how quickly go you see this again?

I have let it go and the nightly reboot clears it. I've never seen seen it go away on its own. The guide appears to be up to date when this happens. It occurs infrequently and if left on its own the tuners remain tied up and scheduled recordings will not happen.

A lot of times at night I am watching a recorded program when the receiver wants to update (right around 1:30AM, if nothing is being recorded), so I let it and go do something for a few minutes. If I don't get back soon enough, the screen changes from the "Press SELECT to watch TV" to one that says the receiver software is up to date and the guide is at a percentage (10%, 25%, etc,) downloading. So it does download "in the middle of the night" as well as "anytime", as you say.

So, as far as this thread goes, what is your point exactly?

Just like the 722 did. If it needs guide data it will download it any time of the day, if not it gets the latest after the nightly re-boot.

But, the point of this thread is, why two (2) tuners two do it?
No that is not the point of the thread. The point is 1 or 2 tuners are in use and do not become free preventing recordings from taking place. I have had to use the red button reset to clear them.
