Sat tuners in use for software or Guide Update

I'm having the problem right now and it sucks. It is taking 2 of my 5 tuners out of action to 'acquire data'.

Reset didn't help and can't run checkswitch because PTAT has fired off for the evening. This means I'll miss some recordings tonight too. This needs fixed very quickly as far as I'm concerned. I won't put up with it!

Did you try rebooting just the Super Joey?

Did you try rebooting just the Super Joey?

I hadn't since the 2 tuners being tied up with this crap were on the Hopper. Now I've tried that and no help, but after the SJ rebooted, it only showed one tuner on the Hopper and didn't show the other two at all.

So now I just reset the Hopper again to see if the combo would fix this for tonight.

This is weird. After the Hopper reboot, it shows 2 tuners on the Hopper, one I'm watching, one 'available' and Tuner 3 is shown as on the SJ and doing PTAT.

OK, while I was typing. All 5 tuners are showing up and all tuners are either available or recording.

At this point I don't know if it was the SJ booting that got things started in the right direction, or if it was booting the SJ and then booting the Hopper after the SJ finished its boot.

Regardless this is a serious problem and needs a serious and quick fix from Dish.

As an aside, this may be trying to tell me something. I've got both services now and am in the process of deciding which I'll keep. This next week will tell the tale.

The super joey is different in that it has two tuners for recording as well as the hopper's 3. IF the super joey reboots or has to be rebooted , the hopper will show only 3 tuners while it is going on. IF the Hopper is rebooting the super joey will show that there in no connection to hopper . Same if you do a check switch run on the hopper, the super joey will show that a check switch is being done and you can't access the hopper. I think that DISH should of made a 6 tuner hopper and they wouldn't of needed a super joey and a different installation plan. Then you could of done a dual node install and it would all work with a simple install. Hopper in one room and joeys in the rest. SIMPLE.

Maybe we'll see that one day. With how companies must evolve, you never know.

True . But I forgot that DISH wouldn't be able to charge that second $10.00 fee for the super joey if they made 6 tuner hoppers. Then again ,knowing DISH like I do , they could always do a 6 tunner hopper and add the $10.00 super joey fee to the regular $12.00 hopper fee and get $22.00 FEE for a 6 tuner hopper. DISH has never met a FEE they haven't liked yet.

They didn't like the tv2 receiver fee
Are you kidding? I read the other day on this board that some one is still being charged for it on their account all these years after they did away with it. Besides they really didn't do away with it. In 2010 they rolled it into the new miscellaneous Additional receiver fees by class of receiver. That is when the additional receiver fee for a second 722k /722/622 dvr went up to $17.00 a month.

Tuner 1 is currently tied up with a software update. Lost locks are at 220. Red button reset in progress.

If I tune in signal on all 5 tuners on signal strength screen (have a HWS and SJ) or do a check switch, how long will this temporary fix last? The rest of the day until the software update at 1:30 am? This is a nasty bug that needs smashed. Not a good first impression of the Hopper. It almost defeats the purpose of having it with that kind of disfunction.

A reset or check switch will clear the issue until the next time it occurs. The nightly update will also clear it. The bug has been reported. Yesterday was the first occurrence in 2-3 weeks. I use the red button to check the tuner status periodically.

It's more of an annoyance that pops up from time to time , and more so since I got my Super Joey last May. Before then I rarely saw it happen.

At least with a Super Joey and primetime anytime I have a chance at getting most of my recordings if it happens without me knowing it.

Are all of the Hoppers doing this or only certain versions of them? To me, this would be one of the worst bugs to hit a DVR that I could remember. A lot of people might not even know its happening if they are not recording a lot.

The bug affects H2K & HWS. It ties up either 1 or 2 tuners on my H2K. I periodically use the red button during the day to check it.

I haven't seen this issue for a while now. Anyone else still seeing it? Not ready to declare it fixed. I'm on S446. I reported it on S440.
