NFL 2008-09 Season

Very true Salsa. Remember the Giants nickname last year was "The Road Warriors".

Yesterday revealed how important Brandon Jacobs is to that offense. Without Earth, you have no Wind or Fire.

Yes...no Brandon Jacobs is huge. The opposing teams can 'pin their ears back' and tee off on the WR and Manning without a running game. Gotta remember too, the Eagles and Cowboy defenses are very good. It's not like the Giants were facing my Raiders or the Lions(sorry Jim.....:().

I still say, if it wasn't for a bad special teams snap, the Steelers would of beat the Giants. The only team in that division that played great against the Steelers were the Eagles, no one else in that division impressed me.

Excuses, excuses. What's a matter with your Stoolers? Blaming a bad snap on a loss!? Come on. My Brownies didn't have a problem with those G-Men. We whooped 'em 35-14. :D

Uh oh.....Wonder how much HOLT will be fined?!!

See, I wouldn't be surprised that this does not happen MORE often....

Holt says official used scoreboard to make call

13 hours, 56 minutes ago

ST. LOUIS (AP)—Rams receiver Torry Holt said an official used the video scoreboard to call a penalty Sunday, taking away St. Louis’ biggest play of the second half against the Seattle Seahawks.

After the 23-20 last-play loss to the Seahawks (3-11), Holt said the official called pass interference after watching the play deep in Seattle territory in the third quarter.

“He said he looked up in the Jumbotron and saw that I pushed off,” said Holt, who is in his 10th year with the Rams (2-12). “I told him I never extended my arm. It is one thing if you extended, because that is pass interference. But everything was in motion catching the football. I don’t even know if I had my hands on the guy.

“That was his explanation, and I told him it was a bad call.”

With the Rams leading 17-13 with 4:40 left in the third quarter, St. Louis took possession on its 20 and moved to the Seattle 46. On second down, Marc Bulger threw a strike down the right sideline that Holt caught at the 26 against cornerback Marcus Trufant.

The play was brought back on the penalty, pushing the Rams to their 44. St. Louis moved the ball to the Seattle 29 and settled for a field goal with 11:09 remaining. The Seahawks trailed only 20-13 and were still in the game.

“I was surprised,” Holt said of the key penalty. “I could understand if I did because I would take that, but I could not understand it. It was a big play for our team. It was something that we needed. We needed some energy, something to get us going.

“To take that from us was not fair. They get paid to do what they do and we get paid to do what we do.”

Rams coach Jim Haslett said he was “not going to touch” the official’s decision.

“That is a young guy over there, a rookie referee,” Haslett said. “I am not sure what he saw but obviously he thought it was pass interference, and we have to live with it. If that is what he called then that is what he called.”

Bulger offered his opinion, saying “You just don’t see a lot of offensive pass interference called in this league.”

“Torry made such a nice catch there. I think he did (push off),” Bulger said. “It wasn’t just one play that cost us this game.”

Who would've thought the invincible Giants would actually be effected by the losses of Plaxico Burress and Brandon Jacobs? I guess they are mortal after all.

this is so true. a few times last night i saw plays that exposed the need to have plaxico in the lineup. some were already saying that the Gmen can do without plaxico but i guess that isn't accurate. missing jacobs for sure is a big problem for the Giants and for their sake i hope he gets healthy quick because carolina is getting hot at the perfect time.

This is the third time that one of us Sports Section members went to a game in person, and lost.

Salsa was at today's game, and HD MM went to Browns games.

Combined record- 0-3.
Actually it's the 4th. I went to see the Steelers play the Bengals here in Cincy earlier this year. Steelers won. Combined record: 1-4 :D

Well...this is gonna be a long flight home. On the way to the airport, drenched and pist! Witnessing an ass-whipping in the rain no less. Well, once again....big war.....Pats with guns and Raiders with knives.

Die Davis die!!!

I saw the score at halftime and all I could think about is that Salsa flew 3,000 miles to see this ass kicking. I feel your pain brother, but I didn't have to fly 4 hours, each way. I sure hope there was something redeeming from the trip for you.

For all the talk about the futility of the Detroit Lions in recent years and obviously this season looking like a NFL first 0-16 season....I just learned this little nugget.

With their thrilling 49-26 loss to the Patriots, the Raiders are the first team in NFL history to lose at least 11 games for six straight seasons.

Commitment to Losing at it's finest. :
)

One statistical aberration doesn't belittle what the Lions have accomplished.

THE DETROIT LIONS - REBUILDING SINCE 1957!

Now, that's commitment!

I beg you pardon???...

I have been to every home game the Colts have played this year, (actually for the last 20 some years), so you need to up that record a little bit...I've only witnessed 2 losses so far this season!!!...:D

"Daze Of Our Lions" 0-14 edition.

Highlights

The Lions looked like they actually belonged in a NFL game, instead of a Pop Warner game. As usual they still found a way to lose. The defense as usual, was the culprit. Couldn't help but feel that Indy was "playing down". Indy spent 7:30 on the opening drive (scoring a TD), looking like they just wanted to minimize the beatdown. Maybe Dungy was feeling a little compassion for his former coordinator Marinelli. Again it was like playing football with your little brother - keep them in the game, let them have some fun, and then squash them in crunch time. Indy played without 4 defensive starters, so the Lion's offensive numbers are a little inflated. Really, the "Highlight" is that at least they (Lion's) haven't quit. They are playing hard every down, but spunkiness only goes so far, and the lack of talent here is ultimately the deciding factor, and the Lion's are woefully short in that department.

By the numbers

0-14, 1-21. - No explanation necessary.

0 - number of "3 and out's" for Indy.

1 - number of "3 and out's" for Detroit. I honestly don't remember the last time this happened.

9 - The number of games the Lions have given up 30 pts. or more this season.

31.7 - average pts. per game the defense has givem up this season. No other team is over 30.

41 - Career FG's over 50 yds. by Jason Hanson for his career, a NFL record. He is 8 for 8 this season (also a NFL record). He also moved into 7th place on the NFL's all-time scoring list. Now that i think of it, this should have been in the highlight section.

0 - The Lion's actually gave up NO sacks yesterday! Again, I don't remember the last time this happened either.

Quotes of the week

QB Dan Orlovsky - "You change 15 plays this season, and we're probably a .500 team. People can look at me and say I'm crazy, but I'll point out the 15 plays to them."

You're crazy Dan. Woulda, coulda, shoulda!

Parting thoughts

Is Calvin Johnson the Barry Sanders of this generation?

2 more losses to the most dubious record in all of sports. I'm getting a sinking feeling that these guys will blow it. Two things stand in there way - Drew Brees and an 400yd. passing day at Ford Field this week, and the fact that we haven't won at Lambeau field in a generation. Keep you're eyes on the prize guys!

It was was fun. Had not been to the Blackhole in almost 6 years. It sucked that it rained alot, but midway through the 3rd...I have a budding who had sky boxes and invited me up so I was able to get out of the rain. His apt. was on the way to the SF airport, showered and was plane ready 2 hours after game was over.

Again, knives and sticks to a gun fight.

oh well.....:(

TNGTony has season tickets to the Bengals so count him in that record too.

I meant by the 0-3 comment, members who said they on this site that were going to games.

I didn't know McCoy went to the Steelers/Bengals game in October.

He never mentioned it in a thread.

Monday Night Football

Alright guys,

I can't go through the day without bringing up tonight's Monday Night Football game featuring my Cleveland Browns vs. Philadelphia Eagles.

I know our season is in disarray and I said after the week 12 game against Houston that we wouldn't win another game this year (so far I've been accurate). I know we are onto our 3rd QB (Ken Dorsey) and without TE Kellen Winslow again, but is there any reason to believe in my Browns tonight?

The only thing I can think of is that we're undefeated (2-0) in Monday Night Games this year.....
