NFL 2008-09 Season

Better late than ever...I think. :)

Thoughts on the Sunday Games so far...

1. The Steelers are making a strong case that they are the team to beat in the NFL.

2. The way the Cardinals are slipping they won't even win a home playoff game, and possibly be even blownout.

3. ESPN's Bill Simmons pointed this out but the Colts are 5 plays from being 5-9 and not 10-4...and did little to debunk that theory with the win over the Lions.

4. Maybe a little pre-mature but so be it...The Falcons will make the playoffs.

5. Seneca Wallace may never be a starter in the NFL but is showing to a real good backup QB.

6. Maybe being benched was the best thing to happen to Tavaris Jackson.

7. In case you haven't noticed, since starting 0-4 the Houston Texans are 7-3.

8. I haven't said this for awhile but how about them Raiders. :D

With two weeks to go, this is how I see the AFC shaking out:

Pittsburgh will go into Tennessee and win to secure HFA in the AFC (simply because the Steelers are the better all around team). The Titans get the #2 seed.

My Jets will win out and secure the #3 seed. :) :up

Denver gets the #4 seed by default.

The Colts, by virtue of being the #1 wildcard team, will be the #5 seed.

That leaves the last spot between Baltimore and New England (Miami would be eliminated if they lost to the Jets in week 17). It would make my day if the Ravens could win out (the Ravens control their own destiny), but they have a very tough game in Dallas next Saturday night- the Cowboys last ever game in Texas Stadium.

The AFC would look like this:

#1 Pittsburgh and #2 Tennessee first round byes

#6 Baltimore/New England at #3 New York Jets

#5 Indianapolis at #4 Denver

I'm hoping for a Dallas win, and the Dolphins taking that last playoff spot.

I could be wrong, but I think if Miami/Jets loser/New England/Baltimore all finish 10-6 the Ravens would get the last spot.
Well then Baltimore will have to lose their last two games.:D

I don't want to face Baltimore three times in one year, or the Patriots again.

For all the talk about the futility of the Detroit Lions in recent years and obviously this season looking like a NFL first 0-16 season....I just learned this little nugget.

With their thrilling 49-26 loss to the Patriots, the Raiders are the first team in NFL history to lose at least 11 games for six straight seasons.

Commitment to Losing at it's finest. :)

It personally bothers me to see a "cornerstone" franchise such as the Raiders going through tough times.

I enjoy it much more when they're the Big, Bad Raiders, and every team is trying to knock them off their pedestal. But that's just me.

Personally your viewpoint, which many people still have, is the real reason how far this franchise has fallen is truly exposed.

This coming Super Bowl will mark 25 years since the Raiders last won one. Since then they have just one Super Bowl appearance, in the same timespan other "cornerstone" franchises like the Seahawks and Falcons have an equal number of appearances.

In that same 25 years period, the Raiders have just one road playoff win, the same as another "cornerstone" franchise...The Cardinals.

The Panthers and Jaguars, expansion teams, have had better success than Raiders.

The big bad bully on the block is long gone, and has been for a very long time.

I say the same thing about the NY Knicks....no fun beating a team you hate when they are not very good. All teams go through a low point.....some, unfortunately, like my Raiders have gone through it longer.

I wouldn't mind Charles too much....have you EVER heard him talk about HIS team...?

ONCE the 'Fidel Castro' of the NFL dies, the team will be run by a more stable human being. They will be back.....Maybe by that time, we will find out if Charles really DOES have a favorite team.....;)

One win away from home field advantage. Starting to get excited. :D

Are you sure it's a lock?

Let's suppose Carolina beats the Giants next week, then the Panthers lose to New Orleans and the G-Men beat Minnesota in the season finale.

Might that scenario change the outcome?

Nope. Next week's game settles it. If the Panthers win they can take it easy against the Saints

Panic? Why? Since when do you NEED home field advantage to get to the Super Bowl? They have played teams that were desperate to make the playoffs and played with more urgency.

Very true Salsa. Remember the Giants nickname last year was "The Road Warriors".

Yesterday revealed how important Brandon Jacobs is to that offense. Without Earth, you have no Wind or Fire.
