Look.... You are right in 2 things: (1) only 10% will not make it to Pro and (2)the majority could not afford those schools. But the fact of the matter is...based on PERSONAL experience....as in ME, MYSELF and I... it is not enough. A poor kid/little financial means comes on a 'free ride'. Books, tuition and a roof is paid for. Everyday things like laundry money, toiletries money, money to OCCASIONALLY do something social other than pose for MANDATORY school pressers and functions....IF the school allows you the time....to say, go to a movie...IF they have a sh!!7y car...put some gas in it. GOD FORBID you have a family emergency or twin because sh17 happens...and you have to go home BEFORE break or before the end of the school year...where is THAT money gonna come from?

You have NO CLUE about this because you have never gone through it.

NCAA Rules Trap Many College Athletes in Poverty - DailyFinance

Read it a few times....might educate you on what is REALLY going on...

Not enough for what? Look they are paying for you to go to a school in many cases that is 30k a year or more. So you are talking 120k$ worth of education, room and board (another 5k? a year), and in most cases free food in the student cafeteria area. Is it really to much to ask for the student to buy his own shampoo? You dont even need to buy toilet paper you can use the student restrooms... Is it to much to ask to pay for your own gas? With out this free ride to college what else would these kids have to do ? Find a job? pay for there own school? They certainly would not be looked at by all these scouts from the nfl,nba etc and have such a huge chance at making the big leagues vs not going to college.

Where is the money for you to go home? The same place it would be if you paid for the college yourself. Your pocket.

NONE of those NON student-athletes bring in $100 of millions into the university coffers every year. MANY of those libraries and research centers COMES FROM the money those players/teams generate.

Oh and by the way, they JUST LET student athletes get part-time jobs(within the last few years, that was not allowed when I went to FSU) AND they are not allowed to earn more than $2000 a year or they risk losing their scholarship.

they have income restrictions on a lot of scholarships not just athletic ones. Although I do not understand the restriction for athletic ones.

Paying them outright was never mentioned by me. I stated that it was not enough. IF you are not going to pay them something, ANYTHING. Then cover that student athlete's fee for gas for their cars, money for everyday expenses, trips home.

And student athletes ARE different than non athletes. Those "few that bring in millions' COMPLETELY COVER title 9 expenses for female athletics, PLUS stadiums. IF it weren't for those "few" bring in the dough... You would not have the explosion of TV money for these bowl games and "March Madness".

So should the female athletes get paid also? Since its the football and basketball and baseball mens teams that are paying for them to be able to enjoy there womens swimming.. Should a athlete like Andrew luck get paid more? since he obviously brings in more money then whoever was one of their linemen.

Watching espn and it looks like 4 team seeded playoff rotating among 6 bowls for the semi final and final games was just announced. I would guess the Cotton and Capital One bowls get added to the list with Rose, Sugar, Fiesta and Orange.

Found this on another sports site and thought it was interesting. Below is what an "8-team playoff bracket" would've looked like going all the way back to 1998. Some years they were all great games (2003 for instance), others years one or two games could've been a waste of time (not to their fans of course). Just thought it was interesting. :)

I was guessing those two added as well.

What they wanted to make sure they preserved in these conversations:

“Yeah we only had two or three principles that we kept articulating and said these are things that are of paramount importance to us if we’re going to consider a playoff going forward. One is preserving the preeminent division the Rose Bowl holds in the world of college football and in particular amongst the bowls. The second is preserving the regular season. The third is making sure that the Pac 12 is treated fairly given the fact that we play tougher a schedule than the other conferences.

:wtf: What the heck is Larry Scott smoking, saying the PAC 12 plays a tougher schedule than other conferences?

lol the pac 12 is Oregon and USC... And the SEC Proved Oregon (twice in in the last what 3/4 years) is not SEC caliber. Stanford is not typical on the national radar, they just got lucky with luck (see what i did there).

I dunno if you can find another conference with 3 different teams with multiple national titles in the last decade maybe even 2 decades, add to it also 3 other teams have won national titles in that time span.. I mean in Big 12 you have Texas, Oklahoma, and ? Oklahoma st, has had a great run the last 5 years or so, but its not the norm. The Big 10 you have OSU, Mich and? Nebraska hasn't been relevant in a very long time. Wisconsin and pen state are about the next best 2.. And then the ACC you have no one really shining nationally except maybe Virginia Tech, and thay cant seem to beat anyone who is highly ranked. The big east? No one.

So the pac 12 is certainly battling it out for 2nd place but its a dam near tie between the big12 and big 10 and id maybe edge it to the big 10 simply because Texas has fallen off the map nearly and Michigan seems to be back with a great showing last season. Then of course you have 4th place ACC and last place big east.

So with all do respect, Mr. Larry Scott.... L O L

Im very naive when it comes to College Football but I do have 2 questions. How is that after all the stalling about creating a playoff system that all of a sudden, a college football playoff is made? What was the selling point that made a college playoff possible after all these years?

College athletics is a $7 BILLION dollar a year business that schools and conferences want to keep to themselves.

When you get a chance, look up in YouTube 'Real Sports' college football and checkout the scam the bowl are doing and you will see.

The bowls turned into the biggest scam in the world. Now how much of that control will the bowls get to keep. Moving bowl eligibility back to 7 wins is going to shut a couple of them down.

Thank God, we have way too many as it is.

I would actually rather see it go to 8 games won to be invited.

I can't imagine how the University Presidents thought all this time that they were making MORE money with the bowls than with a playoff set up.

Because to many people were mad about the two best teams in the country happened to be from the same conference ;)

The fact that were too many bowl games were mentioned. I'll be honest, I dont mind the bowl games. I say that because for some, playing in the Liberty Bowl doesnt hold water but for those kids that will never play in a BCS or even the NFL, the Liberty Bowl is there BCS. I guess thats just the underdog in me.

LOL, he has just plain lost his mind. Everybody knows the SEC has the toughest schedule.
