NCAA Football 2008-09 Season

USC did play at Virginia.

When did Florida last play outside of the Southeast?

Or LSU? Or Alabama? Or Penn State oustide of Big Ten territory?

LSU played both at Arizona and Arizona St. in 2003 and 2004. Florida won their NC a couple of years ago at the Fiesta Bowl. Georgia was at Arizona St. this year. Tennessee was at UCLA this year. Auburn will be traveling to West Virginia. I'm sure I can find more, especially if I research past schedules more, but you get my point. :)

I don't know about Penn St.'s travels, and don't care to find out really.

Those games were literally polar opposites.

One was a jaw-dropping, thriller with an incredible ending that had LSU fans crying tears of joy; the other was just a merciless butt-kicking.

BTW, LSU/Sun Devils was in 2005, not 2004 (Saban's team didn't make the trek- that was Les Miles' first signature win with them).

So, basically LSU hasn't played outside it's region in 3 years. Florida's only game outside it's region in recent memory was a game it had no control in scheduling. You have no answer for Alabama, and Auburn barely escapes the SE playing in WV.

Meanwhile, just this season Oregon St. played at Penn St. and Utah, Oregon played at Purdue, Stanford played at Notre Dame and TCU and Cal played at Maryland.

Well, what can I say. Some teams have to travel further than others for quality competition.

They will probably play the role of the Terminator based on what they did to Nebraska. I just hope it results in another Mike Gundy meltdown afterwards. "I'm a man!"

Most teams only play one non conference road game. USC does take all comers. Not only did they go to Virginia this year and host Ohio St, but they have made trips to Nebraska, Auburn, Arkansas and played Virginia Tech in DC all within this decade. The Trojans fear no one, except maybe Oregon St. :D

The past decade? If you go that far back most teams have played outside their area. But you are correct most big teams dont play outside their area as often these days. A home and home here or there and thats it, unless its a team that cant get competition close by:p

I know alabama in the past decade has made trips to hawaii and ucla.

LSU has been pointed out already, as has georgia. There are others I am sure.

And yet I'll tell you: in the past decade alone PSU has played a number of games outside of the "Big Ten area" -- at Syracuse, at Boston College, at Virginia, at Nebraska, at Miami (Fl). And of course every bowl game is outside of their home area, typically played against a team located near the bowl game site.

Well of course we'd like to go to a big one, but after three years of no bowl appearances, any one at all would be a step in the right direction. But if the coaching staff calls every game like they did on Thursday, Pitt fans should expect nothing less than a BCS bid this year. The Bowling Green game was a wake up call that playing aggressively and not letting up is a must, and it took them until a few games later to realize it.

First they have to start attending home games. I've seen high schools that draw better than Pitt.

Home attendance is pretty bad, but against Iowa there was 45-50k fans there.

If they win the fans will come, plus if they make the subway go from Oakland to the Stadium, plus under the river from Station Square to the stadium it will be better.

Do you think Pitt fans want to go to a big bowl game or would they be happy to go to any bowl game?

Small steps, there is a lot of football left.

Agreed.

SEC finally played a game outside of thier conference when Georgia went to Arizona earlier this year.
After looking at the USC schedule I remembered that they played the first game on the road.
I believe that they only have 1 out of conference road game this year.
At least next year they will come to Columbus.

Jimbo

Florida played Miami earlier in the year.
