NCAA Football 2008-09 Season

The Big12 is certainly the top conference (overall) this year, The SEC a very close second (Id say though the top 2 teams in the SEC can run toe to toe if not beat the top teams in the Big12, however the Big12 is certainly more rounded this year with more great teams then the top 2)

The ACC is a shell of what it used to be back when Miami and FSU were dominating the NCAA. The PAC10 is horrid and how USC gets the credit they do, for playing the cupcake conference they do is beyond me. The Big 10 is down this year, specially when its top team is Penn State? OSU and M are down which those teams have been the backbone of that conference. Next year expect things to change, I still see the Big10 being #3 conference but much more challangeing next year.. The SEC and Big12 will battle it out for top conference next year, It will be tough with both FLA and BAMA returning most of their team, GA and LSU getting a nice recruiting class (as usual) those will be 4 very strong teams to compete with next year. Also dont expect Tenn, to remain down. S.C will have a solid defense and lets hope they fix their offense to make another powerhouse in the SEC.

Here are some predictions for the bowls... Seems very plausible with the biggest check mark on the FLA / Tech game. I think FLA can beat Bama, but its not a gimmie.

Buckeyes vs dogs would be a good game,

USC vs Texas and OK vs LSU would be great also.

Just like when the U left the Big East for the ACC, they figured they would have a easier time winning the ACC then the Big East.:)

Well...the real reason had EVERYTHING to do with basketball. THE U had ALREADY established itself as a football AND baseball power in the NCAA. The U thought by going to the ACC, it would improve it's basketball program. And by the last few years showing in the NCAAs, the move accomplished what it set out to do!:up

I would not pay too much attention to that....ALOT can happen in the next 3-4 weeks.

You do know that it's usually snowing up here in the North at this time of the year? Damn cold, too. We like watching football in warmer weather too.

I just noticed that you're from PA, so I guess that you already know this.
Except that football is also a cold weather sport. The NFL has no problem playing until February, even in the Northern States.

And 1 week doesn't really make a different in the scheme of weather.

Plus travel costs for the non big-3 sports was greatly reduced by being in a conference they were more geographically aligned with.

True, and I love watching from my HEATED living room, in front of my widescreen with a COLD beer or a WARM Scotch (single malt). I'll leave freezing your butt off to the younger generation and other die-hard fans.

I can not believe that the teams in the Big 10 end their season this weekend. Damn that is to early. Are the schools permitted to play an out of conference game next week if they wanted? This is way to long a lay off until they play in bowls. The big 11 presidents are doing these schools no favors.

So by playing an extra week or two into late November, the Big Ten wouldn't have a long layoff when the main Bowls don't begin until January? Personally I think anything more than 2 weeks is too long of a layoff. All the teams are off at least that long.

The Bucks traveling is immaterial. The Feista Bowl will want to maintain the Big 12 tie-in, same as the Rose Bowl did last year with the Big 10.

If you look at the history of the BCS bowls, almost always has a Bowl Game replaced it's anchor team (when chosen for the MNC) with another team from that anchor conference.

Ohio State went there, What 3 years in a row, I think they have a good standing with the Fiesta bowl commitee.
Check that, it wasn't in a row

And now for the broadcasting lineup for the premier match-ups this weekend in College Football....

Saturday, November 22nd

Michigan @ 10 Ohio State (ABC, Noon)- Brad Nessler, Bob Griese, Paul Maguire, Stacey Dales

15 Michigan State @ 8 Penn State (ABC, 3:30pm)- Mike Patrick, Todd Blackledge, Holly Rowe

14 Brigham Young @ 7 Utah (MTN, 6pm)- Rich Cellini, Jon Berger, Blaine Fowler, Sammy Linebaugh, Toby Christensen

2 Texas Tech @ 5 Oklahoma (ABC, 8pm)- Brent Musburger, Kirk Herbstreit, Lisa Salters

Cool, No Musburger on the Buckeye's game

For some reason they like to end early, instead of Turkey weekend like everyone else.
Plus it gives them an excuse when they get crushed in the MNC. ;)

Actually, IF the College Football schools would all START the same weekend and NOT take 2-3 weeks OFF during the season, we could all end the season and start a playoff withy the first week of Dec.

Orange Bowl in 2004....

BUT, I love the fact that with all the crap that has been talked here about The U.....they have a possible chance of a BCS BOWL...TWO YEARS EARLY!!!:D:D:D

EDIT: 2 Peach Bowl appearances in 2005 and 2006. BUT, they are not in the same league as the Orange Bowl.

they have a possible chance of a BCS BOWL
THIS year ????
How is that possible.

I'm trying to figure out if the Buckeyes will make a BSC bowl game and it looks doubtful unless Mich State beats Penn State this weekend ......

And your saying an UNRANKED team is going to a BSC bowl game ahead of OSU ?

Please explain ....

Ohio State and Georgia was the too teams that alot thought would be playing for the MNC in the beginning of the year.
Cincinnati and Maryland in a BSC game ????
Where did Maryland come in at, are they ranked ?

Cinci, Maryland and Miami in BSC games when they are all ranked lower than the top 10, leaving OSU out of a BSC game, ranked 10 ?

Jimbo, remember the winners of the Big East and ACC get a token entrance to a BCS Bowl regardless of overall ranking.
