NCAA Football 2008-09 Season

1) The Big10 would need to expand to 12 teams to play a conf champ game. NCAA rule.

2) Jimbo - there was a "review" rule built into the BCS before. It was not-so-wonderfully known as the "Big East Rule," thinking that the Big East would wither with the defections. Comically, the ACC actually would have had their bid reviewed last year under that rule, but it was rescinded. Too bad.

Yes, Penn State is the last 1 loss team in the Big Ten
Best thing for the Buckeyes is for them to Win against M and have MSU beat Penn State which could happen, all teams are tied in the conference records. If MSU wins and the Bucks win, the Bucks would go to the Rose Bowl ( a BCS game) Bucks beat MSU.

I'm wondering, If Oklahoma gets beat by TT big, would Oklahoma drop below 10 ?
Utah and Boise State also , if they lose would drop past OSU.

I think Ohio State could play with any of the 6-9 teams ahead of them (BSC Poll) I would not expect them to play a top 5 team. Yes, UI think USC would be a good match up, with a healthy team it would be a good game.

IF things fell right, the Bucks could PLAY Oregon State, in the Rose or any other at large game, except I think they want the at large for Boise/Utah ..

Jimbo

That's not relevent, as only 2 teams from a coneference get BCS bids. Between Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Missouri only 2 get BCS bids.:D

Mccoy,

does LSU stick with the new QB that saved them against Troy for the Ole Miss game?
Yes, only the "new" quarterback that saved them in the Troy game is the same one they've been using - Jarrett Lee. He plays horrible one half, then great the second. It seems to take him a quarter or two to get into the flow of a game, and he's still relying solely on plays called from the sideline, which he seems to execute no matter what the coverage is. He's thrown 8 pick-sixes so far and at least one every game. Jordan Jefferson - another true freshman for the Tigers - did get more playing time during the second half of the Troy game, but that was only a series or two to mix things up and open Troys line for Lee (Jefferson's a runner more than a passer).

The main thing that's plagued LSU this year is their inconsistency on defense. After Pellini left, Miles didn't go out and hire a true defensive coordinator and is using two assistants from last year as co-coordinators. It's not working. Even as bad as the QBs have played at times, LSU has scored enough points in all their losses to still have won the games if the defense would've shown up at crucial times. I fear to think what might happen if LSU winds up meeting one of those Big12 gunslinging teams in a bowl game. It'll be just like the Florida and Georgia fiascos. :(

Don't forget to tune into see Ball St. tonight in their quest at a perfect season. (After tonight, they have 1 more game on the 25th against against Western Michigan).

Actually, they could play each other every year. In the SEC, each team is locked into a permanent series with a team in the opposite division. LSU plays Florida (not sure how that happened), Bama plays Tennessee, etc.

Didn't know that.

This is true in the BIG TEN also, Jimbo. MICHIGAN is guaranteed to play "that evil school from the South" and MSU, every year. The rest of the schools rotate.

With 11 teams in the Big 10, how would you divide the conference into 2? One with 6 and the other with 5? That would be uneven and unfair. Now if Notre Dame ever gets rid of their ego and joins a conference, the Big 10 would be a perfect fit IMO. Then we could do 2 divisions of 6 teams each.

Can you imagine a division with the likes of:

Ohio St.
Michigan
Penn St.
Notre Dame
Wisconsin
Purdue

Wow. Talk about a conference full of rich tradition!

Championship? We don't need no stinkin' championship!

Well...the real reason had EVERYTHING to do with basketball. THE U had ALREADY established itself as a football AND baseball power in the NCAA. The U thought by going to the ACC, it would improve it's basketball program. And by the last few years showing in the NCAAs, the move accomplished what it set out to do!:up

Yeah, the U's BB team couldn't hold the jock strap of any player from the Big East.;):D

And every (bsc) conference gets at least ONE, will the winner of the Big Ten be the only game in the BSC this year ?
Obviously the SEC and Big 12 will get two each , deservedly so, the Pac 10 gets 1 at least, probably two especially if Oregon State wins the conference.

So if this scenario pans out.
Big 12 2
SEC 2
Pac 10 2
Big 10 1 (2 maybe)
Acc 1
Big East 1
At Large 1-2

Am I missing any conference ?
At Large : Utah, Boise St. Ohio State, Georgia ? Ball State ???

Thoughts ???

I don't think Georgia will be an at large after losing to Florida and Alabama.

So, does the Big Ten get a second bid and the Bucks go, or not, someone else had a scenario that the Bucks would NOT go, mentioned Oregon State, I think I already included them with 2 for the Pac 10, what about the third best in the Big 12, they cannot go as an at large due t o conference max number of teams ?

7:00 PM ET- No. 17 Ball State at Central Michigan TV: ESPN2

I'll be flipping back and forth between this game and the Cavs/Pistons game tonight.

Yes
This should be an interesting game.
Ball State 10-0 and Central Michigan 8-2

Both have very good QB's, remember the MAC is known for producing NFL caliber QB's.

I know. Both of our teams have had a few MAC QB's drafted...

Steelers- B. Roth (Miami of Ohio)

Browns- Charlie Frye (Akron) and Josh Cribbs (Kent St.). Yes, Josh was a QB at KSU, even though he is now an All-Pro Special Teamer.

Also , didn't the kid from Bowling Green go to Cleveland as well, he didn't pan out, and is out of the NFL (I think) but was a very good QB, like just before Cribbs came along.... btw, I remember watching Cribbs as well.
I think I'm thinking about Omar Jacobs.

Also the QB from Toledo, Bruce Gradkowski, he has been with Tampa Bay for several years and last I heard signed with St. Louis but appears to be not there any longer

Back on SUBJECT: Tonight's game is SO HUGE for The U against GT. IF the Baby 'Canes can run the table and make a BCS Bowl, they will be one year AHEAD of schedule and I say they WILL be fighting for the National Championship in the 2010 season IF NOT SOONER!

I don't think Georgia will be an at large after losing to Florida and Alabama.
Yep, the Suger Bowl will take the loser of Alabama-Florida. Either team, even with a loss in the SECCG is a great match for the Sugar Bowl. And there is NO way that the Sugar Bowl won't take an SEC team, especially one that will still be in the top 10.

Out of the 10 bids, it'll be:
MNC - Big 12 & SEC
Rose - Pac 10 & Big 10
Fiesta - Big 12 & Pac 10 (if Oregon St is in the Rose) or Utah/Boise St./Big 10 (if USC is in the Rose)
Sugar - SEC & Utah/Boise St.
Orange - ACC & Big East

Ohio St's only hope to get in a BCS game is to win the big 10 or hope that Oregon St. does not win the Pac 10 and that either Utah or Boise St. loses.

The Fiesa Bowl might take Utah over Ohio St., due to unfeated status and Utah is in closer proximity.

The Sugar Bowl on the other hand will take an undefeated Utah or Boise St. over Ohio St., and the Sugar Bowl is first and foremost an SEC game, and it looks good to have the SEC team beat up an undefeated team, as opposed to Ohio St. for a 3rd year in a row. And the Sugar Bowl doesn't care if Ohio St. travels better than the other teams, because either Florida or Alabama will fill the Super Dome easily (again, the Sugar Bowl has always been first and foremost an SEC bowl game).

You talking about Omar Jacobs? He was actually drafted by the Steelers in '06. He never made the team and then Philly picked him up and put him on their practice squad, but was later cut. Last I heard, he now plays in the AIFA (American Indoor Football Association) and won the Championship there last year. He was named the MVP of the Championship game.

As for other MAC QB's, don't forget Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich (from Marshall when they were a part of the MAC).

Good post. :up I think things will be pretty clear at the end of the season for most conferences involved, except the Big 12 - there will no doubt be a couple of teams that will feel snubbed there.

You're crazy, seriously. Miami making a BCS game (if it happens) has a bunch more to do with the rest of the ACC shifting back. That conference is really just horrid.

Hell - you could have 4 loss BCS rep. 4!
