NCAA Football 2008-09 Season

Reason #847 why the Big Eleven is a joke...

It's possible that Minnesota will have 10 regular season wins this season and will not have beaten a ranked team.

And you don't have to go back that far to find the last time that happened. Wisconsin went 11-1 in the regular season in 2006 without a single win against a ranked opponent.

They played # 15 Arkansas and WON.
They played # 6 Michigan and Lost

They did not play Ohio State that year, they too were ranked in the top 12

Wisconsin beat PSU in the regular season, who ended up #24/25 in the polls. Unless you are making one of those silly "ranked at the time of the game" type arguments (which are meaningless given how inaccurate the polls are for most of the season).

And, as has been mentioned, they defeating an Arkansas team that finished #15/16 in their bowl game.

So, I'm not really sure what you point is. Wisconsin went 12-1 that year, lost to one good team on the road (Michigan) and then defeated everyone else they played including a good SEC team. Are you suggesting they weren't a good team and/or didn't deserve their final ranking? Or are you arguing that Minnesota isn't any good because they haven't defeated a ranked team? And it's worth noting that Minnesota isn't, y'know, actually ranked so it's not like all these wins over non-ranked teams is changing the pollsters' minds. We'll see what they do as they finish their season and go to a bowl.

I'm pointing out how stupid it is that a team in the Big Ten can make it through a season with playing a worse schedule than a MAC team because they don't play every team in the conference or have a conference championship. Iowa wasn't any good last year, but they didn't have to play Ohio State or Michigan. They basically got a pass on the best teams in the conference.

THIS COMPLAINT ABOUT NOT PLAYING ALL THE TEAMS IN THE CONFERENCE IS UNFOUNDED ....

Most conferences don't play everyone in the conference.
I only picked ONE team to look at quickly, I chose Florida, they do not play everyone in the conference, they don't play Alabama, Auburn or Miss St.

So that complaint can't be used to bash the Big Ten any more ....
The "They don't have a conference Championship game, Big Deal, the CC game is nothing more then another way to make more money, The Big Ten and Pac Ten decided to not be greedy, get over it.
It's not thier fault that have to play another tough game at the end of the year, thats their own doing, so no bit** about having to play another tough game.

If you didn't decide top have so many teams that you added for some unknown reason you would have to have divisions, then no need for a CC game.

But most of those have a conference championship game. So if Florida wants to win the SEC, it can't avoid Alabama.

However, it should be pointed out that the complaint centered around Minnesota 2008 and Wisconsin 2006, neither of which would have gone to the championship game had the Big Ten had one. It's certainly possible for an SEC or Big 12 or ACC team to go 5-1 or 6-2 in conference, missing the top ranked teams in the other division, not go to the championship game and have an "easy schedule" despite being in a league with a championship game.

I have decided in my completely unbiased view....ahem....that these teams like...Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State...as good as they are, and they are damn good, just don't play defense. I would like to hear how any team in the country could rack up what was it, 579 yards against Texas last week, against a team like Penn State. All I can say is that Ohio State's performance in the last two Championship games should not tell everyone that this is how PSU or any Big Ten team would match up, okay, not any team this year, maybe just PSU, against one of these teams. Tressel ball is just that. They have a conservative offense to say the least and it's just not in their makeup to get into a shootout. Luckily, PSU will probably get their chance. Unfortunately, I think it will be against Florida, which I believe does play some pretty damn good D. But again, 579 against this PSU squad, hardly. My point is, the offense of these teams is fantastic, but I just don't think any of them have good D.

I took the Pac-10 out of the argument because everyone plays everyone in the conference. They have 9 conference games in a conference with 10 teams. The Big Eleven has 11 teams and plays eight conference games. As far as Florida, they will play Alabama in the SEC championship. And they already have played the 10th toughest schedule in the nation. How can the Big Ten claim a true conference champion if everyone doesn't play everyone and they don't play it off on the field?

Who's bi***ing about it? It obviously hasn't hurt the SEC in the BCS era with four national titles in ten years.

But they will not be the league champion and likely not in the BCS Championship game. The pollsters consciously moved LSU above Georgia last year because of that.

You can't compare Penn State and USC saying it's Ohio State's fault. Yeah Ohio State lost, but Penn State isn't Ohio State, their states just border each other.;)

But in your thinking is that USC should of never went to the championship game because they don't play a tournament, plus almost every team in their conference sucks.

Granted I think Bama will lose a game and TT will probably lose a game, while Penn State should run the table, Penn State should play for the championship, probably against Florida.

I knew it! You are a Penn St. fan! "Sister" , yeah, right.

Good lord that funny! I am an Alabama fan all the way, but I almost hope yall win just to see that guy cry! Sad! Well, at least he is from tenn. not the actual state of Alabama

LOL, He is a D*mn gentleman....hahaha that is the funniest thing I have seen in a long time!

D*mn gentleman has an as* fixation.

At least we have fans, unlike the U.

Oh please.....outside of the northern part of the state of Florida, sourthern GA and southeastern AL....no one cares about the Gators. The same cannot be said about The U....I am willing to bet more people love AND hate The U than give a damn about the Gators as a whole.

Just to be fair, I despise the "U" and Florida equally.
