NCAA Football 2008-09 Season

Overhyped????

I heard about it so much every day of the week leading up to it, and you would have been amazed at the coverage over Beanie Wells and 'toegate.'

And, of course, one game was a lopsided rout, the other a stunning thriller.

As did I, but "Ohio St.-USC" SHOUTS college football greatness......especially when it was #1 vs. #4!

Contrary to rumors, I wasn't in a coma that week. ;)

And when the best player on either side is doubtful until game time, why shouldn't it get extra coverage??

Ya think Beanie missing the game had anything to do with that? :eureka

It was a big deal, but I kinda thought in terms of games missed, how the team struggled without the star player, and media reaction, it was the college football equivalent of Tony Romo's broken finger.

TT&T was a much better game than USC/Ohio State. All of the games between the top 4 teams in the country have been special. (T,TT,O, and TBonePikens aggies).:D

That's part of the reason I still think Alabama will not go unbeaten. I'm having a hard time seeing a team that lost to Louisiana -Monroe suddenly becoming world- beaters.

Teams change drastically in a year, some move on , some gain more experience, I see NO correlation from last years game and this years games left.

I know you can hope I am correct and your Wolverines turn it around by next fall :)

Here's an amazing fact:

the Longhorns/Red Raiders"West Texas Shootout" drew a higher TV rating than the overhyped Ohio State/USC.

Sports Media Watch: Texas/Texas Tech thriller draws best ratings of season.

You 'll have that when the games are in the beginning of the season and the ones your talking about are towards the end....
Teams generally play MUCH better as the season goes on.

Why don't you guy's open your season with these big games and then well see how hyped they are and we can sit back and pick them apart about how they didn't live up to what we all expected ... Go ahead, tell me your team hasn't improved dramaticcaly since the beginning of the season.

That's a good point. Most college players, even the most hyped recruits, know nothing about the fundamentals of the game when they arrive in college. The only thing you need to excel in HS is pure athlecticsm. It takes time for kids to learn. Players need to learn proper blocking/tackling techiniques, receivers need to learn how to run routes, etc. This is why so many freshmen are red shirted. So it shouldn't be surprising that teams can improve dramatically from year to year.

This isn't the same Alabama team that lost to UL-Monroe last year. They're completely different. Florida State lost to North Carolina State the year before they won their BCS championship. Oklahoma lost 5 games the year before they won theirs. Ohio State lost 5 games the year before their championship. LSU lost 5 the year before. And that's just in the last 10 years.

That's right, LSU lost 5 the year before their 2003-2004 championship and 2 the year before their 2007-2008 championship. Now my boys are on the verge of loosing #3 and could possibly lose #4 or 5 down the line. Look out next year! ;)

I'm a Colorado Buffalo fan. I'm not a fan of the Big 12 South, but I think this year they have some very good teams>:D
