NCAA Football 2007-08

Hmmmm....interesting....

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Steve Kragthorpe isn't dwelling on a blown call by officials in last week's 21-17 loss to Connecticut. The Louisville coach is focusing on helping his team forget a tough loss in a season full of them.

Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese called Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich on Sunday, saying the referees erred during a disputed punt return for a touchdown by the Huskies (6-1, 2-0 Big East) early in the third quarter.

"It certainly doesn't change anything that happened on Friday night," Kragthorpe said. "It was a factor in the game, but it wasn't the only factor in the game."

The Cardinals (4-4, 1-2) were leading 7-0 when Cory Goettsche punted. Connecticut's Larry Taylor moved under the ball and waved his right hand above his head, appearing to make a fair catch signal.

But when Taylor caught the ball, he began running to his left and raced untouched 74 yards up the sideline for a touchdown. Several Cardinals had slowed, thinking the play was over when Taylor made the catch.

A livid Kragthorpe protested, saying the play should have been blown dead when Taylor raised his arm. Kragthorpe called a timeout and asked the referee if the play could be reviewed. Fair catch signals, however, are not reviewable under the NCAA's current instant replay policy.

And ALL but LSU and Alabama have 2 or more losses, how tough is that conference when you can have 2 or more losses and still be in contention ...
It means the conference is tougher from top to bottom.
The toughness of a conference isn't determined by it's top 1 or 2 teams, it's by it's totality.
It's simple to be undefeated if your conference is loaded with weak teams, but much harder if it's balanced.

EXACTLY! I have stated that ....see how tough the "lower teams" are...and that tells you how tough the conference.

I think Oregon is better than people are giving them credit for, I think Oklahoma is in the same category.

If I were listing them mine would go like this:

1. Ohio State (zero losses so far)
2. Boston College
3. Oregon
4. LSU ( I think) They will lose again
5. Oklahoma

Thats the top 5, the rest shake out , but don't matter much.

Of course this is subject to change next week as more shuffling will undoubtably happen as several play one another.

Yup, that is how I would have MY Top 10.

WHAT ?????
We AGREE AGAIN !!!!

Is the world still spinning on it's correct axis ? :)

LOL...Even though I don't think there is a dominant team, Ohio State DESERVES to be #1 by virtue of being undefeated in a good conference. Now Boston College is also undefeated, but the Big East is not as strong as the Big Ten in my opinion.

But I still stand on the fact that neither has played the toughest part of their schedule....which will happen in these final 4 or 5 weeks. I will tell you right now, do NOT be surprised that the National Championship is played with teams that have 2 loses.

I'll take Alabama in this one, thus giving LSU 2 losses (actually 3 had the official ruled a 1st down correctly they would not have won last week. The guy was a good 18" short and they gave it to them, PATHETIC

I think Alabama may take it to LSU as well, especially if the Tigers don't keep the pressure on JPW.

I agree with you - the refs did give LSU a 1st down in the Auburn game when it clearly wasn't. But as I said before, it was only third down and they did have 200+ yards rushing against AU already. I'd say there was a fair chance of making a first on the next play if they had to. To say LSU would've lost is a bit of a stretch. Also, LSU didn't get the personal foul call when AU chopblocked Glenn Dorsey, so things tend to even out when all is said and done.

I've been saying that for a while here. Maybe the SEC is the best conference in the land, but I sure wouldn't say it so because they have so many ranked teams. The rankings are just as you said - A JOKE. Michigan proved them all wrong in week one, and it has snowballed all the way to SFU getting a #2 ranking. Who does the voting anyhow? I've read that coach's poll is often sent to an underling to fill out in many cases. How can anyone possibly watch enough football to make an informed opinion on who is better than someone else? Send the conference champions to a playoff, and settle this right.

They should do away with a preseason polls all together, and wait like the BCS poll does before voting. I like the idea of sending conference champs to a playoff, but would you include all conferences?

B.C. is no longer in the Big East, they're now in the ACC. The point is still valid, as I agree that the Big 10 is stronger than the ACC.

DUUUHHH....!!! oooppss, my bad!!;)

To me, the SEC is FAR ABOVE everyone else. Then its a free-for-all....and it also depends on the year. Some years, some conferences are better than others. But the one constant has always been the SEC.

I agree with you to a certian extent, but NOTHING is definate until it is played.

Neither team played good Defense, it would be nice to see what happens if they play anyone with a D.

"But the one constant has always been the SEC."

I wouldn't go as far as saying ALWAYS, in recient last 10 years, YES, but not always.

SEC has won 5 in the last 15 years.
Big 12 has also won 5 in the last 15 years.

Yes,
I saw his name mentioned previously in my Sporting News as the Top QB in the nation and with the possibility of going to Ohio State, but as mentioned there were other teams also listed, and the re is alot of time till signing day.
It would be nice to see Ohio State finally get a top notch QB ... :eureka

Friday night Ohio State's football and BB coach was in town to see Terrelle Pryor. But I there are reports that Vince Young keeps texting him to go to Texas.

LSU Alabama

Oh,
I see, they get to take a week off before they play tough games !!!!!

Such a tough SEC, they are so tough that they cannot play every week of the season.

Lets play 12 straight weeks and see how tough the Big bad SEC is, and also lets play a road game where you have to deal with weather some time.

Come on up to the Big Ten where you have to pay in the SNOW and Rain, thats where REAL football is played.

Not in the prefect weather of the south and west, 80's oh my, there's a balmy wind, are we going to be ok to play a game today ???

To bad they don't play bowl games in the North, all the northern teams have to go down and play in your perfect weather.

Come up north lets play games in Lambeau, Soldier staduim ect.

This is why they suck
