NCAA Basketball 2008-09 Season

I agree, but then again, I think this is a very provincial and regional thing.

I personally think that Yankees-Red Sox is the most intense rivalry in sports. But I don't expect people outside of New England/New York/New Jersey to feel that way.

I do think that the ten top rivalries in sports are (in no particular order):

1. Red Sox-Yankees
2. Redskins-Cowboys
3. Ohio St.-Michigan (football)
4. UNC-Duke (basketball)
5. Packers-Bears
6. Celtics-Lakers (recently renewed)
7. Red Wings- Avalanche
8. Nebraska-Oklahoma (football)
9. Dodgers-Giants
10. Giants- Eagles

I apologize if I left any out (I'm sure I did).

#2 and #6 get my votes.

I wouldn't expect you guys to take my word for it so here's this.

Sports' greatest rivalry returns

And Bill Redskins-Cowboys? Half the teams in the NFL consider the Cowboys to be their biggest rival, and the rivalry with Washington hasn't been interesting since the early 90's.

After thinking about a little more, I did leave a lot out:

Florida St.-Miami (football)
Oklahoma-Texas (football)
Raiders-Chiefs
Steelers-Browns

and I'm sure there's MANY more.

Interesting tid-bit on the NCAA term, "Final Four".....

The NCAA, which has a trademark on the term, says Final Four was originated by a [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_Plain_Dealer"]The Plain Dealer (newspaper) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Plain_Dealer_masthead.png" class="image"><img alt="The Plain Dealer" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/6/6f/Plain_Dealer_masthead.png/225px-Plain_Dealer_masthead.png"@@AMEPARAM@@en/thumb/6/6f/Plain_Dealer_masthead.png/225px-Plain_Dealer_masthead.png[/ame] sportswriter, Ed Chay, in a 1975 article that appeared in the Official Collegiate Basketball Guide. The article stated that [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marquette_Golden_Eagles"]Marquette Golden Eagles - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Marquette_Golden_Eagles.svg" class="image"><img alt="Marquette Golden Eagles.svg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/d7/Marquette_Golden_Eagles.svg/150px-Marquette_Golden_Eagles.svg.png"@@AMEPARAM@@en/thumb/d/d7/Marquette_Golden_Eagles.svg/150px-Marquette_Golden_Eagles.svg.png[/ame] “was one of the final four” in the 1974 tournament. The NCAA started capitalizing the term in 1978, and turning it into a trademark several years later.

Interesting, very interesting.

I'm surprised Douglas was that high up. What I'm really surprised over is Jeff Teague at Wake was only 2nd team all ACC. The talent in the ACC is sick. The BE doesn't have the same probelm with their awards since their first team has about 20 spots. I think somone from DePaul might even get first team BE honors. :D

Now Lawson is questionable for the ACC Tournament so the soap opera in Chapel Hill continues.

Anders,
I know you don't want to hear it, but it might be wise for the Heels to sit Lawson in the ACCT.

They have a #1 seed wrapped up anyway, and IMO, they are still the favorites in the ACCT even without Lawson.

Save him for the Big Dance.

Who knows what they'll do. It was reported that he was practically on his deathbed before the dook game and then he plays 36 mins and nearly gets a triple double. We don't play until Fri so I'll wait and see. If he can't go he can't go. I just don't want the team to use it as an excuse to lose. We survived a month without Lawson last year and only lost once.

Why? Thabeet is the BE defensive POY, and likely the national defensive POY. His offense isn't all that bad, and has been dominant in a few games.
