NCAA Basketball 2008-09 Season

Undeserved?

Are you saying that as long as you're in a power conference it's OK to lose multiple times, yet it's a sin to not lose in a weaker conference?
Yes. Sure Memphis is winning and they have overacheived but they are NOT the best team in the country. Everyone in the top 10 would be undefeated if they played in C-USA. And Memphis would not win more than 11-12 games in the ACC or Big East.

Let me put it to you this way:

Remember when Florida won it all in 2006? They were a #3 seed, but were deemed as not being truly legit because they played in another not-so-great conference (SEC basketball- not as good as other conferences), and look how that turned out.

Of course, some other team would have to get insanely hot in March like Davidson or George Mason.

Whatever happens in the tournament happens, but the polls reflect the state of teams now, and Memphis is not better than the teams ahead of them. I don't care how many games in row you win in C-USA. It's a JV league plain and simple. If they had to play the quality of teams that exist in the ACC or Big East on a nightly basis they would lose several of those games. What top 10 team has Memphis played this year? What top 10 team have they played on the road? Answer: 0. UConn has beaten Louisville on the road, Pitt has beaten UConn on the road and Carolina has beaten dook on the road. Until you win games like this you don't belong at the big boys table.

I don't think Memphis will get higher than a 3 seed, regardless where they finish in the polls.
They'll probably get a 2 seed. They do have a top 10 RPI, and they could get a #1 seed if there's upsets in the other conference tournaments. My argument is just that Memphis should not be getting 1st place votes in the polls.

Villanova defeats Notre Dame.

The Irish are now off the bubble. Their only hope is to win the BE Tournament.

Good luck with that. ND would need to win 5 games in 5 days and they haven't won 5 games in a row since Dec. I've had ND off my bubble for a while now. They take the cake for most overrated team in the country this year.

Let's be careful about writing a team off before the tournament- remember what Syracuse did in 2006 or Georgia last year.

Those teams won 4 games in 4 days which is not easy. ND has to win 5 and the last one is the hardest. Only Digger Phelps would believe that they could pull that off.

Don't bother watching college basketball tonight; the better games are on Wednesday.

The games shown tonight are Michigan/State Indiana (Spartans already have a share of the Big 10 and the Hoosiers are awful, though there could be a laughably low score), Kansas State/Oklahoma State (I think both are in), and Auburn/Alabama (Great football rivalries do not make for basketball rivalries, although at least Auburn will score and the game will not be decided by a margin of 36).

Wednesday features UNC/VaTech and Marquette/Pittsburgh.

Florida St-dook and Wake Forest-Maryland are playing tonight for those that can get those games. I think FSU has a legit chance to win in Cameron and Maryland is pretty hot right now. They could score another big upset tonight.

Once again dook gets a ref aided victory. They ought to just rename it Karl Hess court. Hess is so crooked that he makes Tim Donahy look honest.

Ref aided?

Dude, wak up and smell the coffee- Florida State missed half of their three-pointers, and blew a lead in the second half.

Blame the Seminoles- they got a little too comfy with their lead.

I know you hate the Devils, but now you're blaming the refs?

I despise the Giants, and not once did I say the referees aided them during the season.

Did you see the game? They called 2 technicals on FSU for no good reason, they call a foul on FSU on an abvious flop by Paulus and only call 6 fouls on dook in the 2nd half and one of those was intentional in the last minute. So to recap dook wins by 3 and gets 4 free thows off technicals handed to them by the refs. Fair game my ass!

As much as I can't stand Duke, they did BC a solid by defeating FSU.

BC is still in contention for the #4 seed (and first round bye) in next weeks tournament.

They're at NC State tomorrow night (not a gimme by any means) and finish with Georgia Tech on Saturday.

Georgia Tech is the gimme; after their lifeless effort in Chapel Hill, combined with the fact that they have to go to the Heights and play a team that beat Duke, that will be ugly with a capital U.
