Guys, can we get back to talking about actual basketball? This Calhoun rant has taken on a life of its own.
Actually no. I think Bobby Knight is an a**hole. I just have a problem with people, cough liberals cough, trying to demonize everyone who makes a lot of money. You want to target someone? Try Paul Hewitt at Georgia Tech. This guy completely stinks as a coach, currently 1-12 in the ACC, yet he'll coach there forever. Why? Because GT doesn't have the cash to buy him out. They gave him like a 10 year extension after their fluke run to the FF a few years ago and they blew their wad chasing Chan Gailey out as football coach. If anyone should have to apologize for what they make it's guy like this not Jim Calhoun.
Go ahead, no one's stopping you.Guys, can we get back to talking about actual basketball? This Calhoun rant has taken on a life of its own.

It is a valid topic for this thread though....
Any financial "sacrifice" made by a coach is for show only, it obviously will have no bearing on the economic health of the university and/or state. Especially, as I detailed several posts ago that in Calhoun's case his salary is paid by athletic department revenues, not taxes. If he was to give money back, where would it go?? Back in the AD's budget, that's where....I will try VERY hard not to go into a political rant on this one....there are times when you have to make sacrifices, like stated in the interview I attached, OTHER schools and coaches are making the sacrifice....
...mine rant had NOTHING to do with *cough* rightwingers *cough*
All those teams have a shot, but I don't think they'll all make it. Hopefully Carolina will quit boosting these teams profiles by losing.I'm starting to think that the ACC will now get 9 bids to the Big Dance.
UNC, Clemson, Duke, Wake Forest and Florida St. are all locks.
Boston College is probably one win away from lock status.
Miami and Maryland have enough on their resumes to warrant a bid.
And finally, Virginia Tech is hot right now. The Hokies have UNC and Duke left at home, and FSU on the road. IMO, if they win one of those games (any of them would be a quality win) and win one game in the ACC Tourney, they too will get a bid.

IF Miami can win out, they will be in. My Orangemen is struggling in the rugged Big East and I think they TOO will need to win out to get in. It would give them 10 wins in the conference and about 22 wins total.....I think NOT including the BE tournament.
I like Miami. Their remaining games are at GT and home to NC State. Both are managable. That will get them to 8-8 in conference and they made the dance at 8-8 last year. Maryland is the weakest of the bunch. They wouldn't even be in the conversation were it not for a couple of dicey minutes from Carolina Sat. I don't trust that they'll keep it up. Watch them lose to State Sun. VT could go either way. They had lost 3 in a row, including a loss to Virginia, until they beat Clemson the other night. Now they get dook and Carolina back to back. Who knows what'll happen with them? I figure the Hokies will be one of the teams sweating it out on Selection Sunday.Anders,
in your opinion, who's more likely to be left out: Miami, Maryland or Virginia Tech?

Syracuse is still really mediocre in the BE, but this year they have wins over Kansas and Memphis. Those are gold. The problem for the Orange in the past was they'd go 9-9 in the BE and had played a cupcake non conference schedule, usually with some embarassing losses on it. Looks like they'll get rewarded for coming out of hiding and playing good teams on the road early in the season.Syracuse is in a good position.
Another win-maybe two- and I think they're under the lock status.

Don't you think Miami, or ANYONE in the ACC for that matter, that ends up 8-8 in the conference would need AT LEAST a win or two in the ACC tournament to have a legit shot?
It wouldn't hurt, but I don't know that they'll need another win. You never know how those conference tournaments are going to play out. I thought Baylor was sunk last year after they lost to Colorado in the 1st round of the Big XII tournament, yet they still got in.Don't you think Miami, or ANYONE in the ACC for that matter, that ends up 8-8 in the conference would need AT LEAST a win or two in the ACC tournament to have a legit shot?
Maryland is another story.

You know what, I don't trust the committee one bit and I would think they really need to win out the regular season. As it stands, they have 3 games left, Cincinnati and Rutgers at home and the season finale is at #10 Marquette. They are 8-7 right now....I would think that AT WORSE, win the two home games...lose to Marquette and win AT LEAST one game in the Big East tourney and they are in.
Well they shouldn't lose to Rutgers. That would give the committee something to chew on. And Marquette is shorthanded now with Dominic James out for the year so Syracuse may be able to pick up a quality win like Texas did over Oklahoma. At the end of the day the record doesn't say who was or wasn't playing in each game. You know what, I don't trust the committee one bit and I would think they really need to win out the regular season.
