NCAA Basketball 2008-09 Season

Virginia beats No. 12 Clemson 85-81 in OT - College Basketball - Rivals.com

I can forgive Clemson for losing to Wake Forest and Florida State, but VIRGINIA?!
That was a surprisingly good game. Probably doesn't hurt Clemson in the long run. They are a lock to make the tournament and had no real shot at winning the ACC. It does set up an interesting game Wed. Virginia Tech has to play Virginia next. The Hokies are squarely on the bubble so they can't afford to lose and Virginia showed today that they haven't given up, even though they are way out of contention.

Those guesses are reasonable except for Northwestern. They have no shot. Actually Wisconsin, in spite of their recent 6 game losing streak, has a good shot of making it. They've now won 4 in a row and have 2 games upcoming with Indiana. I think they'll make it.

UGH!!! I wrote the teams down on a piece of paper and had Wisconsin.

How did I type "Northwestern" instead of "Wisconsin"???!!!

What a dope!!! :D

BTW, ramy, your boy Meeks (PTI reference) had 45 points yesterday, yet you didn't post on it until right now.

You were a lot quicker to react to his 50-point game.

I have been busy with the girlfriend and Valentines day. I barely got to watch the game yesterday. Now I am having problems with my car. Grrrrrrr

Who's your favorite to win NCAA Player of the Year?

My pick is Blake Griffin.
Griffin is good no doubt. Actually Hansbrough's numbers are about where they were last year but he doesn't seem to have the juice with the media this year. I guess that's cause he hasn't had any 360 dunks this year. But whatever. Griffin is good. So are Jodie Meeks and Hasheem Thabeet. I'll take a NC over another POY for Hansbrough this year.

B.C. beats Duke.

I'm sure our Duxbury buddy is crying tears of joy.

Quite a way to cap up his return to this site!

This will definitely get him in a good mood leading into tonight's NBA All-Star Game, which features Boston's new Big 3.

With Duke losing yet again, I think they are going to ultimately fall to a 5-seed come tournament time- I know that doesn't sound so bad, but they could face a troublesomely good #4 seed (Marquette, Michigan State), or a top-seed if they get that far.

Today, the Blue Devils played BillD's Eagles- next, they go to St. John's, the alma mater of SportsSection's resident babe.

Awesome win for the Eagles. Defeating Carolina and Duke in the same year certainly wasn't expected.

It looks like I was wrong about BC and the tournament. I don't think there's anyway they don't get in, as long as they win two more games.

I think it's in the bag.

Here is their remaining schedule before the ACC Tournament:

February 21st at Miami- This is a tossup. They beat Wake Forest, but have no other signature wins.

February 24th at Florida State- This could go either way.

March 4th at NC State- This is a lock.

March 7th at Georgia Tech- this is also a lock. Their win over Wake Forest was a fluke.

I think they can get a decent spot for the conference tournament, beat up on some crappy teams (ACC has four bad teams), and make a good run.

IMO, they will end up as a seventh-seed. Don't ask me to pick the region, though!

I agree. I think they're a 7/8 seed.

BTW, is that schedule correct?

Four road games and no home games??

My mistake.

Miami and N.C. State are road games- Florida State is a home-game, and Senior Day will be a LOCK against Georgia Tech (payback fo what happened on the gridiron!)
