You should be mad at the rest of your conference. Because frankly outside of maybe MSU, they suck and are holding you back in the BCS. I told you from the beginning that Urban was going to coach circles around the rest of those clowns in the big 10.

I'm sure for you and the rest of the OSU fans it's going to be nice to beat the crap out of UM at the end of the year, but it does you no good if they are terrible like they are now.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Urban vs Saban again.

Theres not a Damn thing we can do about the other teams in the conference.
Fwiw, MSU and Wisconsin are both having good years.
Whisky would only have 1 loss and be in the top 12 probably, had officials not taken the ASU game away from them.

If you look at the Glorious sec, you have Bama and. .... A nobody. ... This year.

As for beating Michigan this year, wont be fun at all. ... its just a formality now.
When its fun is when they are undefeated or at least a top 10 team.

Huh? Bucknut fans like my wife could care if UM fielded a team of quadriplegics as long as tOSU wins.

Personally I also don't think VA tech would have a chance against fsu but stranger things have happened.

I don't think VA tech has one of the top 5 defenses in the nation, but if the stats say they are then so be it. I know schedule plays a part in that.

Exactly. Certain people dont have clue. My comments are gobblydook, yet a guy with a 3 loss team and #5 defense (stats only) seems to think FSU would have an issue with them. Anyone in the BCS would laugh either of you out of the room putting VT and FSU in the same sentence. Isnt it funny after beating Miami, they still arent ranked worth a damn? Wonder why? Because they have two horrible losses. Once again, they beat a demoralized Miami (by FSU) missing a good portion of their offense (Duke Johnson). If you can't understand the previous sentence, or dont believe it, then you are a homer or don't know much about football. Nothing I say about FSU untrue. Now, off the homers from VT and Oklahoma (calling the ACC rinkydink is a homer move), and on to some actual football facts (I know I know, some of you dont care about that).

  • FSU lost Coker (2nd string QB) for knee surgery; they are thinking 2-3 weeks (not serious). He tweaked it playing the second half vs Wake, should be back for bowl. Puts pressure on not getting Winston hurt.
  • Baylor has lost one of their studs Reese for the rest of the year with wrist surgery. I dont know enough about Baylor to know if this matters or not.

Since we seem to be so intersted in team defense, here are the current standings

1. Michigan St. 210.2
2. Louisville 243.7
3. Virginia Tech 263.1
4. Florida St. 274.1
5. Florida 278.8
6. Alabama 281.2
7. Wisconsin 294.9
8. Cincinnati 9 299.0
9. Baylor 306.1
10. Ohio St. 311.7
11. Iowa 10 319.2

Now look at VT and UF, right there in the mix. If you think total defense means either of them beat Bama, FSU or Baylor, youve lost it. There is a lot more to that number and you cant just make an opinion off it. Fact is, UF's offense is hurt and anemic, and VT's offense really isnt that good. But sure, being high in team defense looks lovely on paper and Im happy for you.

Here are some more fun facts (offense) for ya:

1 Baylor 686.0
2 Oregon 596.6
3 Texas A&M 578.0
4 Fresno St. 9 546.6
5 Northern Ill. 545.4
6 Ohio St. 530.9
7 Texas Tech 530.5
8 Indiana 527.1
9 Florida St. 9 521.0
10 Washington 515.9

39 Alabama 452.7

92 Virginia Tech 368.1

So what does all these offense and defense stat meanings stand for? Absolutely nothing, because you SoS can skew things. While the FSU and Bama defenses are right there, our offense ranks much higher. That being said we have scored a LOT of points on mediocre and ranked teams, while Bama tends to not score as many. Mean anything? Nope. At this point in the venture, I still feel Bama beats Fsu heads up. It wouldn't be a Notre Dame style ass whoopin, but I dont think Winston has the experience to handle the Bama D. Maybe Im wrong. Alabama's O-Line is a big problem too. I think LSU might have less depth on D than FSU, but, there is still a lot of meat to deal with on that offense. Those guys are big and strong.

Good post on Rivals that I think sums up

Bama vs FSU right now

While this may not appear to be the best of the recent Bama teams, they still have championship caliber talent everywhere and a coach that is becoming legendary for producing big, in big games..

As others have mentioned, the most likely matchup problem we present offensively to Bama is in a 3 wide, or 4 wide, receiver formation against their secondary. If Saban counters with man cover and doesn't get pressure on JW, the 'noles could create a couple of big plays and if Bama plays to soft in run support, our backs may have big opportunity at the second level. We should be able to put points on the board.

Defensively, we are really becoming a special unit, however, no one on our schedule has had the ability to present as balanced an offense as Bama. McCarron is a special leader, both Drake & Yeldon are NFL quality RB's, the OL is still a top ten segment and the receiving corp (+ Howard the TE) is as good as we will have faced. Loading up to stop one scheme is not an option here, as its been all year.

Bama also adds a dangerous special team segment to the mix (Va Tech game comes to mind). While our ST have had little impact thus far, I'm very concerned with our punt hang time and distance.

Can we beat them? YES WE CAN !!...but anyone that thinks this Bama team is basically Clemson, with a red jersey, doesn't really know football

If Bama can come out and dominate Auburn like the did LSU in the second half, you can put me in the "worried" column. I've even see a lot of folks hoping for a Bama loss because they have a perception we stomp Ohio State. I dont feel that way, I'd never hope a team would lose because they may could beat FSU. If you are gonna win the NC, you need to play the tough guy, not the one you want. Bama's program is the one to beat, and as cheesy as it sounds, to be the best you have to beat the best. Fans are quirky though, they want to act like their team can beat everyone else, yet when the hard one comes up, they hope they can play someone "weaker". Chicken **** IMO.

I've been there for the NC state losses, the freaking Wake loss, this team is finally back with talent and coaching on both sides of the ball, and I say bring on whomever.

Winston: -420
The Field: +300

Some more recent Heisman Vegas lines. Im not convinced Winston is a Heisman caliber QB, yet. I think its a product of we are in a year where there is not one person standing out as "WOW". Mariota had my vote, even if they played tight vs Stanford and lost, but Oregon's offense was embarrassed when they could get on the field. Which of course destroyed his hopes, fair or not.

LSU lost 9 starters to the NFL draft last year and filled those holes with sophomores and freshmen. They have no depth. I would hope that FSU's defense is better, although that's still somewhat unproven due to facing so many weak teams.

Regardless, Saban's offense will be the first offense of that caliber the Seminoles or the Buckeyes will face should either team go that far, and he will know every weak spot to capitalize on. The same thing will apply to how his defense handles those two offenses, as explosive as they have been. Jimbo and his crew won't know what hit 'em when it's done, and Urban will. ;)

That doesn't mean I won't be pulling for the upset, I will. I'm not one of those SEC pud-pullers, I'd like to see LSU be where Alabama is now. But until someone else steps up and betters Nick Saban, he will tilt the scales of college football the way the Yankees once did the MLB. He has the recruiting tools, and boosters to do it. It's already happening in the SEC. Jimbo is absolutely correct, there's Alabama...and nobody. Even Vanderbilt and Kentucky are starting to compete on an equal level with the rest of the conference, except against Saban.

Texas A&M
LSU
Auburn
Ole Miss
Georgia
South Carolina
Missouri

All teams that are better than anyone in the big 10 not named Ohio State

?

If your referring to winning the Michigan game, yes, 1-0....
However, they have beat Michigan like 9 out of 10 now.

No he meant Urban vs Saban, yeah it's 1-1 but I'd clearly say that Saban has the upper hand because his win caused "health problems" and broke his will to compete against him on a regular basis.

We do have some depth on D, I think 7 of the 2nd stringers are 5 star recuits and Pruitt rotates them a lot. The main difference in our D vs the last few years are the score and the ability to create turnovers. FSU has been playing the same ACC opponents for years, and scores have been a lot closer and they were horrible at forcing turnovers. I think this is Stoops vs Pruitt, where Stoops defense gave up more points and was less aggressive. Thats how you have to play against Bama, but their depth is tremendous and they have big dudes. Their teams lately just stand out, and if the score is close at halftime they are going to make you pay in the second half. The key is if you can get up on them in the 1st half and adjust as well as them. One thing going for FSU is that Saban and Pruitt know Saban well, which might help in preparation, but thats a two way street. It also matters how well the players can execute the plan against the opposing team.

Saban isnt this mythical creature that can't be beat, but they have a damn good system that you should never underestimate, or you'll pay. I still think o-line and running backs cause lots of problems with their size and strength.

Fun stuff from ESPN insider today:

Big 12 Winner - 3 for Baylor, 1 for Ok State

Big 10 - 3 for Buckeyes, 1 for Spartans

Pac 12 - All for Stanford

Sec - 3 for Bama and 1 for Auburn

Acc - All for FSU

BCS Title - 3 FSU, 1 Bama (dont agree with this at all)

I know, but I like to be realistic. To many people like to shove innacurate or inflated data at us, kinda like politics but NCAA stats are one of the worst. Most of us knew Oregon would lose to Stanford, or at least had a good idea. I noticed on Gameday that ESPN is now throwing out an undefeated Baylor and their stake on the big game. Controversy sells, and they dont like to come out and say this BCS game is a joke, because team X will destroy team Y. I on the other hand am not restricted in my opinion :)

If FSU makes it, I do want them to play Bama for several reasons. Do I think they win? Not at this time (about 60/40 Bama IMO).

Hearing some exciting news in the way of Coach Fisher.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/salaries/ncaaf/coach/

Looking there you can see he is 21st in pay, and they turned down a deal last year for a 1 yr extension. The last AD was not very good at all, but the task of the new contract has been turned over to the new guy, Stan Wilcox. Expectations are it'll be $4+ mil to get him into the top 10 in pay, and could be longer than 5 years. Im super stoked because I've been real happy with Coach Fisher. Now if we could just afford to pay our other positions a little more to stay near SEC money, we could keep them from getting robbed. That being said, Coach Fisher did a good job this year replacing a lot of staff, so...

Deal may be announced between UF and ACC Champ game.
