Jimbo will not like this stance.

?
1. Las Vegas would favor five SEC teams over Ohio State
Some people believe that I'm ranking Ohio State as an SEC team just to anger Ohio State fans. That's not true at all.
I'm making the same point that I did last year about Notre Dame, namely that just because a team is highly ranked doesn't mean it actually deserves that ranking.
For some reason, paying attention to what Las Vegas thinks is anathema to poll voters and other college football prognosticators.
I feel differently.
Would I rather trust the opinion of an efficient market like Las Vegas -- they're not making billions of dollars a year by accident out there -- or a fat sportswriter from Toledo?
This should be a no-brainer, right?
Well, on a neutral field Vegas would favor Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M and South Carolina over Ohio State. Florida and Ole Miss would be slight -- less than a field goal -- underdogs.
Last week I favored both of those teams over Ohio State in my SEC power rankings. That's hardly a ridiculous proposition.

If they played today sure, but they aren't .

Is Vegas also taking into account that the Buckeyes have had to play thier BACK UP QB for the better part of the year ?

If each of those teams played with thier BACK Up Qb's the spread would be different.

Then again, it doesn't matter anyways, the Bucks NEVER get any respect anyways, regardless.
Now it sounds like if they are the 2nd best team, they will be passed over by one of 5 SEC teams ... not saying thats gonna happen, but it makes it sound that way ... this way an SEC team gets to play another SEC team possibly for the 2nd or third time.

Any the guy that said "Some Fat Sportwriter in Toledo " also needs to stfu.
I'm sure there are FAT Sports Writers in thier city as well.

I don't know all the Sports Writers in Toledo, but I think that that guy is way off base with his comments.

Who the hell is Clay Travis ?
Anybody can write a slam the other guys column.

Tell me, if the Big Ten is so bad, Why is the Missouri win over Indiana so BIG as he wrote ?

What a joke, this guy just listed his top 10 and Ohio State was no where to be found ...
then he says OSU would be no better than 7th in the SEC ...

I'm done reading this incompetent writer.

He's a Tennessee Vols homer from Nashville, and an ex-attorney I believe. Has a radio talk show for NBC Sports. He has anger issues right now with how bad the Vols are, and have been. He slams other SEC teams as well when they dance all over Rocky Top. ;)

Respect has to be earned. Play some stronger OOC (IC as well) teams on the schedule, not to mention actually beat an SEC team.

Now I do not think any undefeated Ohio St. should be jumped by a 1-loss SEC team, but I have no problem with an undefeated SEC team leaping over them.

Yeah, he has earned the wrath of the bama faithful on several occasions.

We've got a long ways to go before we know how good most teams are.
OSU has thier 1st tough game Saturday and it could go either way.
Looking forward to seeing games with some compitition.

Except they are right the overwhelming majority of time.
Except that Vegas doesn't want to be right or wrong. The point of the spread is to have the bets split evenly 50/50. Vegas makes it's money on the house share, not by winning or losing.

All the odds are for, is to even the bets, it has know bearing on how much Vegas thinks a team will win, just on how much they think people will split their bets.

Correct. Like a single bet can change the point spread because it is based on where the money is going...

Just spend your hard earned cash constantly betting on Vegas odds and see how "right" they are. ;)

Well betting against the spread is typically an almost 50/50 bet. Thats why they do the spread instead of just betting straight up who wins or loses. So of course for the most part youd lose more than win.

But it is not very often that the favored team in Vegas loses. Specially not when its a 2 score difference.

So FLAs starting QB goes down last weekend. (Forgive me if I am not upset) And this new kid Tyler Murphy steps up and finally we see some light on the UF Offense. This week he gets his first start against Kentucky. Yes I know it is Kentucky but our last QB Jeff looked bad against Toledo and the first QTR vs Tenn....... So I am so far confident that this might be a positive change for us.

However the devastating change of course is we lose Dominique Easley, a much speculated first round DT. That is a huge impact to our Defense. He was the leader of the defensive line and really was an explosive player to watch. Our defense already has to over come our poor offense (which I hope changes with this new QB) so now they have to over come losing the leader of the front. This season is getting more interesting for the Gators.

Florida's SEC East title chances took a hit after Driskel went down -- making longtime backup Tyler Murphy the starter -- but they might be out the window with the loss of Easley. The Gators enter Saturday's game against Kentucky with the SEC's top defense and second-ranked defense nationally (212.3 yards allowed per game). Without Easley, the Gators will have to rely more on their outside pass-rush to create pressure on opposing backfields.

I will say this weekend I will be a huge LSU fan.. GEUX TIGERS!!!!!!!!

And the home and home between Alabama and Michigan State has now been cancelled. :(

Well the have gone to Penn state in the very recent past.

But for the reason, money. It's the same reason VA tech does it. Considering two of our big away games in the past few years on neutral sites have been against them you would be just as well by asking why VA tech does the same thing.

You would get the same answer.

Ohh no VT goes to many away fields, Nebraska did a home/home play, LSU didn't they went down there back in 2007 although LSU was up in Blacksburg in early 2000's but still it should be more teams doing this cross conference. The good thing is all that changes with VT starting next year, Ohio State up there then back in Blacksburg for opening Labor Day night prime time play and then the rest of OSU's conference teams are falling right in line from then on out.

So you give me two since the early 2000s?

We've done Oklahoma, Ucla, and Penn state since then. That's six years out of the 13 since 2000.
Edit: we also had a home and home (played them there twice and they came here once ) with Hawaii. So add to that.
Out of the other ones not at home two were against VA tech. So we have played them more off campus in that time frame than any other school.

Tell me again how it's different.
