MLB 2013 Season

Jimbo, we caught you at a bad time and you caught us coming home from a terrible road trip needing to heal quickly. I expect a much tougher battle next go round !

I hope your right, but we were on a mini roll going to the West Coast, but everybody knows the West Coast swings are always difficult.

Salami for Napoli. 25 RBI in 19 games... and the 19th game isn't yet over. If his hip joints hold up, then I'd say he is worth the money.

This year is weird due to the winter we've had...I mean normally its suppose to be 60 in April here (Minny) and we got a foot of snow yesterday. This year is NOT normal

so what happens in June when you get rained out? Same thing

UGH! I really hate when people say that WHEN THEY DONT LIVE HERE!! We got a stadium and so what if it doesnt have a roof?
Look at Detroit....no roof
Look at Cleveland...no roof
New York build 3 new stadiums...no roofs on any of those

I'd rather deal with possible bad weather in April and September and sweat my ass off in June than sit in a friggin dome or worse an airplane hanger (like what old Bud got built in Milwaukee). The Twins have had 7 postponements in 3+ years so its not like we need a roof.

And the best part.....they can't put a roof on it due to the design.

Iceberg, to me, I would rather sit in a dome in April and be comfortable then freeze in April. Now I never went to the Metrodome but I would think anything is better than freezing in April or sweating your ass off in June.

I like Napoli. I thought he did great with the Rangers especially in the postseason 2 yrs. ago. I think the Red Sox are lucky to have him. A great signing so far.

Much like in Arizona I think it is, when its super hot, they close it, as long as Common Sense is used, I think a retractable dome is the way they all should go.
but the problem is what common sense?
So there is a "slight" chance of rain yet so then the roof is closed? (and then it doesnt rain) no thanks

But since Napoli flunked the original physical, the contract terms were changed from 3 years at $13 million per, to 1 year at $5 million, so if his numbers hold up and if his hip holds up, then it will be another game of guessing how long a contract he can be given. As I understand it, even if his hip makes it through the season, his condition is degenerative and so his value won't ever go back to what it was, unlike Cody Ross and Adrian Beltre.

Thats where the higher ups have to make the call.

The way I would look at it, if it 40% or better, close it, if it's under 40 at game time, close it.

If it starts to rain during a game, close it then, they take 15-20 minutes to close, no big deal, keep playing while it's opening or closing.

The Reds must really like playing long games. Last night 13 innings. Saturday 13 innings (Which I was at) and earlier they played another 13 inning game

OMG! Dodgers' pitchers are dropping like flies. Billingsley is done for the year!!!! http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/...sley-tommy-john-surgery-out-for-season-042113

I believe AntAltMike mentioned it upthread, but this happened to the Red Sox several years ago. Bronson Arroyo and Jonathan Papelbon entered that season as starters 6 and 7, and because of injuries the Sox were searching for starters by the end of the season.

That old saying is so true.....you can NEVER have enough pitching.

Which is why you can never have too much pitching.

The Dodgers start the season with 8 starting pitchers, one of which on the DL, Lilly. All 8 are legit starters: Kershaw, Greinke, Billingsley, Ryu (probably their second best starter), Becket, Harrang, Capuano, Lilly. They trade Harang the first week of the season, keep Lilly on the DL, and use Capuano as a long reliever, giving them 5 starters. Since then Lilly finally comes off the DL and Billingsley and Capuano go on it.

Now their 5 starters are much less impressive: Kershaw, Ryu, Becket (their #5 is now their #3), Lilly, [some rookie spot starter]

but it seems like teams make the decision before the game if there is a slight chance of rain to close the roof.
I know old Bud doesn't like teams taking a "roof delay" to close the roof

The temperature was 23 degrees Tuesday for the start of a day-night doubleheader between the Atlanta Braves and Colorado Rockies. That shattered the previous low of 28 for games against Montreal on April 12, 1997, and versus the New York Mets last Thursday.

OH MY GOD WHY DOES COORS FIELD NOT HAVE A ROOF!!!

Why do they need to delay the game, keep playing ...
