MLB 2013 Season

Ortiz's prompt return to "good health" is keeping him in the running for a $2 million bonus for next year. From today's Boston Herald:

There’s financial incentive for Ortiz to return before this weekend. If he spends fewer than 20 days on the disabled list because of his Achilles injury, his 2014 salary will increase from $13 million to $15 million. He went on the DL March 31.

The Reds game last night was suspended due to weather after the top of the 9th was played. They are resuming tonight before the regular game tonight.
Anyone ever seen this before? Last it happened to the Reds they just called the game a tie and then replayed the whole game.

I remember there were some rule changes regarding suspension of games that had gone at least five innings. Maybe a decade aqo?

It could be that they can only call it a tie when it is called at the end of a full inning, since to call it a tie when one team has had an extra half inning on offense is unfair. Or it could be that the game you remember was from before the rule change.

I remember that it used to be that if a team that had been trailing took the lead in the top of an inning but the game was called off before the other team completed the bottom of that inning, they actually would take away the runs scored in the top of that inning and give the win to the other team. That was part of what prompted the rule change when it happened.

Well since nobody has scored and the game is still 0-0 going into the 9th it would really matter.

After the first two weeks, I got the feeling that this group of Red Sox players was a likeable group. But it wasn't until after the unspeakable tragedy that happened in Boston yesterday did I realize what a great group they are.

Tonight the Sox take the field in Cleveland, with a city and region needing a diversion from the hell of the last two days. Ironically enough they're playing their first game against the beloved and classy Tito Francona- the man that led them to two World Series Championships. Win or lose, this Red Sox team is worthy of the great city they play in!

Also, kudos to the Yankees (always a first class organization) for playing the Sox theme song, "Sweet Caroline" tonight following the third inning to honor Boston.

First off, my thoughts and condolences to all the people in Boston. You guys are Boston Strong. You'll never break Boston. "Sweet Caroline" is a great song!! Although the only part of the song that I know is "Sweet Caroline. oh, oh,oh".

On a more positive front, it seems like Farrell really has these guys on the straight and narrow. I heard him talk briefly about the Indians and he seems like a good fit for the Red Sox.

Also, believe it or not, Mets are snowed out. Thats right snowed out tonight. That was a sick loss in Game 2 last night in front of 50 fans.

There playing today and I wonder if its going to be snowing again today? If the game gets postponed, I wonder when they are going to reschedule the game?
A quick check of weather.com shows no snow in the forecast, with a current temp of 34° now, and 23° tonight after sundown....

Red Sox starters have yet to allow more than three earned runs in a game. It’s the longest streak to start a season since the 1981 Oakland Athletics went 16 games. Sox starters are 8-2 with a 2.32 ERA.

I haven't heard of one player or team complaining about this or interleague games, well the only one I've heard complained is you.

Oh there is more than just me who despises interleague ;)

And since the Twins have lost 2 games this week on account of bad weather (Sunday against the Mets and Wednesday against LAA) on the news and in the paper they were saying its harder to make up games due to teams outside the division only going to a city once now due to the new scheduling because of the oddball setup of the leagues.

But I'm sure you wouldn't mind if you had a day off in August after working 8 in a row only to have that taken away ;)

I don't really like interleague either. It takes away from the World Series in my opinion.

Royals-Red Sox game has been postponed, because Boston is in lockdown mode with scumbag #2 still at large.

A lot of teams really cant sell playing in April. I mean look how cold it was in Colorado and Minnesota. I think MLB has to do a better job of playing in your division the first month or so of the season because you if you have a game like the Mets/Twins postponed, how are you supposed to make it up? At least if its in your division you have more chances. Btw, who's bright idea was to build a stadium with no roof in Minnesota, anyways?
