Hopper timers

I am trying to help out a friend on a timer/programming issue.
He has Hoppers. My friend told me Hoppers do not have the ability to 'manual time' programs.
Meaning, A) one cannot set start and end time manually..
B) cannot simply press "record" and then record a program or portion of a program.

Answer to A & B is "yes they can". Select the timer in the timer list and then select "edit timer" for "A".

Once a timer is set go to dvr, select timers from drop down. Select show & then edit. Lots of customization settings there.

A: Manual Timers: DVR - My Recordings(Red Button) - Timers - Manual Timer(Green button)
B: Just press the record button.

The name of the recording will have channel number and name and recording time range.
The VIPs would let you edit the name (in initial Cap) but Hopper does not.
