Yesterday I decided to cancel HBO but when I went to cancel online I was offered it for 6 months for half price. So I figured for $9 @ month I'd keep it. Good deal huh? Unfortunately, after doing this my bill seemed to go UP a buck! WTH? I WAS getting $10 @ month off for a year that I was given during the AMC cancellation deal. Still had 7 months left and it disappeared on my billing! So I made the dreaded call and the overseas CSR told me I still had it. Funny thing is it doesn't show on my bill when I look at it online. Sure hope it does SOON......

Hi Ed, sorry for the confusion on the bill. If you would like me to review the bill for you I would be more than happy to. Send me a private message with the phone number and I can assist you with that.

Looking at my bill details, I'm seeing the $5 "AMC" credit. But, I'm not seeing my $5 off on BB@H! And, with all of Dish's confusing pro-rated BS from when I made the change, my bill is almost $20 HIGHER than it should be. Where do they get the extra $$ from?

They've been moving in the right direction in many ways when it comes to customer needs and usability. But, they're billing still sucks. PG&E, AT&T, and Verizon are much easier to understand in comparison.

Example:
America's Top 200 $59.99
HBO & Sho $26.00
Japanese: TV Japan $24.99
DVR Service $10.00
Joey Receiver $7.00
BB@Home 1/2 - 6 Mo ($10/Mo) $5.00
HD 200 Free ($10/Mo) $0.00
Monthly Charges $132.98

If I subtract the AMC $5 credit the final should be $127.98 (plus tax). Yet, my current bill is $145.92. (My previous bill was also a few dollars higher than the $127.98 plus tax, but appeared to add up due to the pro-rated programming changes.) This month's overage simply makes no sense.

Also, the sales tax isn't fully explained. Which charges are actually taxed? I don't believe satellite service is taxed in CA. IIRC, it's only the equipment. (Comcast used to charge like .42 sales tax for the remote control, or something like that.) Is there a place on Dish's site explaining the sales tax charges per state? And, what about those recovery charges I've heard they are charging customers in some states? Where is the explanation for those?

Customers want and deserve transparency, so they can make informed purchasing decisions. This is especially true in our modern economy. Most of us cannot afford to just throw money indiscriminately around. We need to know exactly on what we are spending our hard-earned money.

I hope Dish takes a hard look at their billing system as it relates to user legibility and usability, and earnestly works at improving it.

Gary, did you make the change within the last month or two? Perhaps the higher bill total is still from the prorated charges from the point in time that you made the change, but the latest billing only paid the previous bill amount (before the proration)?

Yeah, but a change in the programming sometimes makes the entire bill get reset, thus generating prorated credits and charges for the entire bill, and if the change was made in the middle of the billing cycle, you might have been charged an entire month and a half prorated forward for your entire bill, which would take a month or two to catch up to your actual monthly billing amounts.

I'm probably being just as confusing with my explanation here.

I am familiar with Dish's complex pro-rating action whenever a change is made. That is what I was pointing out needs improvement. At best, it can make understanding a bill extremely difficult. At worst, it creates billing errors.

I just think it's the nature of the beast where billing is done for service in advance. Dish is not alone in this confusion. Here is my Comcast confirmation after just dropping limited basic TV. No less confusing.

Xfinity Internet

Performance Internet SVC $47.95/mo.

Partial Monthly Charges and Credits
12/11-01/18 Limited Basic Service $-28.55/mo.
12/11-01/18 CHSI $-63.37/mo.
12/11-01/18 Performance Internet SVC $60.32/mo.

Package, Service and Equipment Fees $16.35
Installation and Other Fees $5.00
Taxes, Surcharges and Fees $-3.54

Estimated Total $17.81

But, the end result is a total that appears to conform to what one would expect.

Not really. I didn't make a change to my internet service, only to drop the tv service. But they were adjusted as well, with different credit and charge amounts. And I only dropped a service, but my total is positive, not negative. Not what I expected at all, and still confused by it. I expected the "Package, Service and Equipment Fees" total to be negative, not positive.

Also, I might add, that was from an email confirmation of my order. Online my numbers look totally different, and I won't expect the online amounts to settle down until the next or following billing cycle.

Hopefully they get it all corrected.I have to agree with the confusing billing though.Looks like there would be a simplistic basic math formula that everyone could look at and say yea I get that.I seem to recall Charlie touting simple billing as one of the benefits of Dish having a triple play option once they get the wireless spectrum implemented. They need to make Dish billing simple first.

Go into My Account and click on my Offers. It shoulde list the discounts that are not showing on the bill. With prorated credits and charges, the bill usually comes out correct, but it takes two months for everything to show. Note in the My Offers, that you have to edit at the bottom of the page to change to the cancelation after the free period or the program will continue at full charge.

Well, my concerns that I started this thread with are taken care of thanks to Jason. The DIRT team comes through again!:D

You can never go wrong with Dirt!

Hoping Scott can get a chance to convey to Charlie Ergen at CES just how good of a job they do.Would be very nice to have more Dirt.

Dish wants me to take French Language lessons
