Not gonna work. Right now you'll only get cbs-hd west on 148

You are probably right! But when they ask to turn on a particular channel, it is not identified by satellite location. So, perhaps having an approval for 9484 on the books will cause it to come alive as soon as it is officially active on 129?

Sorry my post was not clear as when I thought it was when I typed it at 3am :) I was trying to say CBS-E was duplicated on 61.5 for the time being, however it seems the west coast HD locals will move to 129 when they launch (maybe in the next month or so??). For that reason, I doubt they will remove CBS-W at 148, however the old CBS-E at 61.5 (that shares a TP with the demo channel) has no reason to exist once they launch the big4 HD locals. They might free up a TP there by removing the HD demo channel. Unless someone really likes that fish tank :)

Now I am getting confused. I think they will need to continue to support CBS-HD East on 61.5, because parts of the East Coast cannot see the 129 bird. However, I think they will move CBS-HD West off of 148 once enough folks in the West install Dish1000s so that they can see 129. Make sense??

Yes. The only reason they might remove CBS-E from 61.5 is if they put it on 110/119.

If the HD PPV channel is always around 12 mbs, then I am NEVER going to pop for one of those movies.

$6 for 2 hours of HD-lite???

No way!

only on 110, not on 148, over 17 Mbps there ;)

both are 1920x1080i and with movie content 12/13 Mbps does quite good with telecine flags

Whoa whoa whoa. Sorry for confusing.

1. East coast HD locals are testing on 61.5. West coast HD locals are testing on 129. These will launch soon. The big four are up, ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX.

2. Dish has always had CBS-E HD and CBS-W HD. These have been up for many years at 61.5 and 148 respectively.

3. There is no need for the old CBS-E HD at 61.5 when the "new" east coast HD locals launch, since these are uplinked as TWO separate video feeds on the same satellite. Thus my reasoning for them to remove the OLD CBS-E, and possibly remove the HD demo channel to free up a TP at 61.5 for voom or something else.

4. Local HD channels will not appear at the 110 slot until after h.264 (mpeg4) and E10 launch.

Hope this clears it up :)

Damn you Gary. :) Now I'm gonna have to go out into the freezing cold and setup my 30" to check out 148. At least I wont have to climb up a 25' tree haha. Got any pics of that install, sounds pretty cool ;).

HD Demo channel is on 61.5 and 148. Everyone who has a dish pointed at one of those locations and a HD receiver can view this channel.

East Coast HD locals (from NYC), when launched, will come from 61.5.
West Coast HD locals (from LA), when launched, will come from 129.

Remember, in E*s mind, 129 is not available for subscribers north of Maryland on the East coast because of the low angle.

Exactly!!

Ok thanks it kinda cleared up as I reread and reread the post :) I hope they release them soon. Or at least put up a qualifing page so we can get our hopes up even more :)

The HD Demo is on 61.5 ONLY. It's not available on 148.

KCBS-DT from LA is only available on 148. It might be on 129, as someone said, but it's not available to subscribers. I'm authorized for CBS-HD West, but when my Dish 300 was moved from 148 to 129, I lost it. It's the only channel I lost.

The SF-SJ locals that are on 148 are mirrored on 129, so I still get them, and I now get the VOOM channels which I couldn't get before because I can't see 61.5 from this location. It's too low (9 degrees) and behind a hill.

I'm looking forward to all the new HD channels that have been rumored... both the network and VOOM!!

The CBS-HD West that's on 129 is not on 9484. It's unlabeled in the engineering tier and not able to be made available to subscribers.

when the rest of the hd networks are made available they'll probably all be in a different channel range and the cbs channel at 9483 and 9484 will be removed

Afternoon everyone,

Please excuse me if I am out of line. I am kind of new here. This is interesting reading, but seems to be off topic. Perhaps a new thread would be warranted.

Anyways, GUYTV seemed to be a little better while I was watching it earlier. However, RAVE and Monsters were still pixelating a lot.

I would feel more comfortable about the current Voom situation if Dish would give some indication of how long it will be before they expect to have the problem rectified. All the messages from them that I have seen posted here and that I have received, thank us for our patience, let us know that they know there is a problem and that they are working on it and how important we are to Dish.

Well, I think we are important, too -- important enough to be kept informed on the progress of their efforts to restore the Voom channels to a quality HD level. I mean, I can be patient if I try, but 30 days from now, if the current situation still exists, I will feel like I have been handed a line and that I fell for it. Needless to say I will have lost all patience and will be very irate -- and Dish may lose me (again) as a customer!

How long should we wait for Dish to fix the problem? I am getting more impatient each day when I check the Voom channels and get freezes, picture break-up, pixelation and sound outages. It's just not enough to know that they "are working on the problem". Progress report, please!!

Just got this update from Dish:

"Thank you for contacting DISH Network to express your concerns regarding an HD programming issue. As a DISH customer, your input is especially important to us as we continuously strive to provide the highest quality of broadcast services.

Since confirming the VOOM quality issue, our DISH Network engineering teams have been working non-stop with VOOM and the appropriate vendors to resolve the specific technical problems which are affecting the picture quality. Some of these issues have already been successfully addressed while others may take additional time to rectify. Please be assured that all available resources will be working toward restoring the HD quality as quickly as possible. Thank you for your feedback as we work through these issues.

We appreciate your patience in this matter and for taking the time to e-mail us with your quality concerns."

ok what about me in Las Vegas who has the 61.5 and not 129? will I'll be able to get the network HD?

No, because the Las Vegas stations don't grant waivers.
