The Luke Fickell era has begun in Columbus. He's the 1st coach with a shutout victory in his Buckeye debut since Woody Hayes in 1951.
That's my score for OSU over Toledo. I think UM-ND will be much closer.

Speaking of Toledo, this week's mathup for the Bucks is much tougher. The Rockets are the best team in the MAC. And the Buckeyes are still without a few starters. I'm not saying they will lose, but this will be a much tougher game.
Interesting stat: The Ohio State Buckeyes haven't lost to a team within their state's borders since 1921.

I'm not sure I would be making any comparisons of Fickell with Woody Hayes until he actually wins something...that or punches an opposing player on National TV, whichever comes first.
? ? ?
Heading for Ann Arbor tomorrow. Any "don't miss" places to eat around there?
That wasn't the point, the point was no one else has started thier coaching career with a shut out.
I agree, especially with the level of competition that first games usually entails.I know, but I have always hated "new coach" comparisons and prefer to wait until they win some big games, a conference title, etc. Plus, it just looked odd seeming Fickell and Woody mentioned in the same sentence.
I was kidding, but what I meant was you are both talking up a team that has little to no chance of beating OSU, "just in case"
Not that you are actually doing that, I mean that is just what I was picking about.

I get what you're saying, but I didn't intend it as a comparison to the Legend that is Woody Hayes. Just tossing out a stat I found interesting.

Tempermental old bastard went for the jugular, didn't he? My all time favorite Woody moment was when he had that tantrum during the 1971 Michigan game and tore up the sideline markers. Classic. The legendary Woody Hayes in his final game at OSU. I don't know which one is worse...the coach losing his temper or throwing a punch like a girl. It's unfortunate that when anyone thinks of Woody Hayes these days their first image is of him punching an opponent and then having to be restrained on the sidelines.
Anyway, let us know when Fickell wins something or is charged with aggravated assult.
