2010 NCAA Football Season

Shouldn't someone be telling them that this CANNOT be done, if they are that bad ?

I do remember hearing about it, but it was strictly in conference, that I remember.

Telling them it can't be done is what the language in the call noted on that one link I put in so that should help cut them down this year, however Johnson knows if he can't block somewhat like that his Option offense won't work.

If you read into it, I know a bunch of complaints went to the ACC Conf Director over it and it was a big flame war after that between Paul Johnson and anyone that said anything. Also don't think they didn't try it with any other team, they got away with a few during the BCS Orange Bowl against Iowa but the refs during that game caught way more than most others and it ended up costing them a bunch such as a illegal chop block on the third offensive series that turned a expected third-and-3 into a second-and-12. I believe GT had a amazing amount of penalties in that game... total of 26 with 195 yards lost due to them compared to Iowa with only 11 and 65 yards lost.

Well if the officials call the game correctly they won't be getting away with it.

If the officials let them get away with it, they will continue it.

Lets hope this year officials are on the ball, way too many missed calls in many games and that hurts all the way around. I'm not one of those guys that come up with excuses but man the writing was on the wall here.

Anyway, if VT does the job against Boise St come Labor day I think they should be clearly in the minds of everyone as a contender for the National Championship game. The next biggest game they play is against GT as a home game for VT. Otherwise I'm hoping to see VT vs Miami and both teams being undefeated so that means Miami needs to be OSU and I think they have a good chance of doing it.

Just because you lose a game doesn't mean the other team is better... the whole regular season showed that based on numbers/stats etc... VT getting beat in that game is exactly that - no need to beat a dead horse.

.

I maybe a homer but man you take the cake...

How does losing a game to a team not say which is better? That is the ONLY way that it can be determined. If VTech would of lost by one score or maybe even two scores, I could see the argument that maybe they just had a bad day or got a bad call etc.. But they got CREAMED. Beat up from one side of the field to the other. Then after destroying VTech didnt LSU Go on and win the national title game pretty much dominating that game as well?

The computers may of put VTech ahead of LSU, but the next deciding factor that makes any sense would be head to head. And LSU Destroyed them.

Didnt that year VTech also go on to play in the Orange bowl? And lost to KANSAS for crying out loud. Sure it was only one score, but come on it was KANSAS!

You make good points.. but I didn't setup the computer, I'm just saying how the stats and the numbers all came together. And you don't have to remind me of who won what games.. I saw them all. But I'm no homer, I just read the writing on the all. Thing is we have a new year, new faces and new stats to look forward to..and to be honest, I can't really stand talking about the past that much. I'm looking at what all the teams have to offer now for the upcoming season and VT has ALOT to offer on both sides of the ball. Dying to get to DC to see them whoop up on ole Boise St and I'm sure many other people are wanting the same thing so this nonsense about them going to the national championship is put to bed.

Anyone here know where I can get the ESPN broadcast of the Nebraska vs VATech from last year either online or DVD? I've found it from a Nebraska site but I think its dubbed over with Nebraska's radio and I don't want that version. It comes on tomorrow at 4pm EST on ESPN Classic but I don't have that channel and even if I did it would be in SD.

Don't have that one, but I'll be glad to record their upcoming loss to Boise for you.

LOL I'll already be at that game watching the Hokies send Boise St packing! :up

I have no vested interest in the game other than enjoying good football. Boise has a knack for showing up for the big ones and VT doesn't. They got very lucky in the Nebraska game last year - not that I mind, I'm a Colorado fan (which hasn't been easy lately). Only thing I have against Boise is sending us Hawkins.

Luck had nothing to do with the outcome of that Nebraska game, the Hokies out played them when it counted most. As for Boise having a knack for showing up for the big ones...what "big ones" are you looking at? Last year VT showed up rather well against the soon to be National Champs and scored more points against them than any other they played..yeah I think they showed up.

2005/06 Boise "showed up" against nobody of any worth, they got beat by #13 Georgia and then in the MPC Computers Bowl by #19 Boston College

2006/07 Boise "showed up" against again nobody cept for Oklahoma whom didn't have much of a team anyway..they got shall we say "lucky" in that OT win of the Fiesta Bowl

2007/08 Boise "showed up" against ..whats this? hawaii?? #13 and still lost.

The last 2 years Boise has played only a few decent teams... and when I say few I mean its a wonder those teams were even ranked but they were still nothing compared to a power house team such as VT. Look at their schedules for the last 5 years and compare that to teams that Vt has played win or lose and that should say alot to anyone how this game is most likely to come out as... a win for VT! Tired of hearing about Boise St's undefeated regular seasons...when they HAVE NOT PLAYED NOBODY!!!

That would be a matter of opinion. Nebraska made a couple of critical bonehead moves including one by the coaches that enabled VT to win, not by VT outplaying anyone. And that's an objective opinion, since I don't especially like either team.

As for Boise, I love the way everyone in the east dismisses the Boise States and Utahs when most of you never actually see them unless it's a bowl game.

Your Va Tech team plays in the ACC, not exactly the SEC ....
Your team beats up on the guys your suppose to just like the rest of us do.

Boise St . WILL be one of the biggest games of the year for you, maybe the ONLY big game for you all year.

Weather NC, Miami or GT will be in the top 10 or anywhere in the area by the time you play them will have to be seen.

My guess is Miami will smoke you ....

Not so much of a matter of opinion just simple stats from the times the plays counted most... and who won the game even if by 1 point.. a win is a win.

Its not just people of the East dismissing Boise St here, do you ignore their strength of schedule for the last 5 years so much that you really think they have it hard? The only positive thing I can say about Boise's program is that they finally stepped up to play a hard team such as VT this year to try and prove something.. even though I see them losing this game they will still be a team I pull for the remainder of the year just cause I don't see them losing to anyone else on their schedule.

The ACC teams you stated UNC, Miami and GT are all in the AP's top 25, 5 ACC teams made it, the only other conference that got as many if not more was the SEC with 6 so that means something all around. I agree the Boise St game will be one of the biggest games this year for VT but only cause the AP polls have them so high. GT will most likely be undefeated when VT plays them, same goes for Miami - Just like all the other OSU fans you've already counted Miami to be a star in the ACC since either 1. They beat OSU on home field so that makes Miami the GOD's of CFB once again, or OSU beats them at home and the argument still stands as they were GOD's of CFB that OSU beat lol same ole stuff from all OSU fans that I've talked to in recent days.

As I said.. I see both VT games against GT and Miami being undefeated teams, VT will win at home against GT, then travel with a major boost from that game to Florida to take down Miami on (some what of home turf).

I see you give Ohio State NO RESPECT either.
Miami is NOT the GOD you say they are, but they are an up and coming team.

Naw if the team takes care of business then great, but I just don't see them as #2 starting off with in the pre-season polls and I most certainly don't see them beating Miami...

Explain why you don't see them up there, they have a offense that is returning MOST of it's starters and a Defense that is always very good.

Who do you see above them ? and why ?

Naw I'm not going to speculate on who should be where, I don't like pre-season numbers at all for anyone. I would rather see rankings come out no earlier than week 5 once all the dust settles.

Found a interesting article about the labor day game... really speaks for alot!

Boise State-Virginia Tech could be a super matchup

Boise State, ranked third in the Associated Press preseason poll, has been guaranteed $1.25 million for the chance to get a high-quality win under its belt before continuing its case for a Bowl Championship Series title game by wiping its funky blue field with the relative weaklings of the Western Athletic Conference.
