2009 NFL Draft Countdown

The tempting pick will be whether to draft Michael Crabtree if he's available. He's debatably the most talented player in the draft, but I hate drafting WR's so high. However, the spot IS a position of need. If we don't go after the Crab man, I like WR Hakeem Nicks (UNC) in the 2nd round.

In short, I don't have a clue to what direction this team will head. I do have a feeling we will accumulate at least 1 to 2 more picks in the draft though. A Braylon Edwards trade to the Giants is still lurking. I am still praying the ManKok (Mangini & Kokinis) doesn't trade the Mighty Quinn though. I'd be devastated.

Looks like Crabtree is no longer an option.

Cleveland Browns might be souring on Texas Tech receiver Michael Crabtree

Why would the Browns schedule last-minute workouts with borderline first-round receivers Hakeem Nicks of North Carolina, Kenny Britt of Rutgers and Mohamed Massaquoi of Georgia?

It might be no coincidence that those trips took place after the Browns visited in Berea with Michael Crabtree of Texas Tech, the draft's No. 1-rated receiver.

According to a source, the Browns were so put off by Crabtree's world-revolves-around-me attitude that coach Eric Mangini elected to extend the search for a receiver.

If the Browns do complete the much-discussed trade of Braylon Edwards to the New York Giants, they probably would acquire the Giants' first pick at No. 29. Hicks, Britt and Massaquoi are projected for the late first round, early second round.

The Browns also have visited with receiver Jeremy Maclin of Missouri.

EDIT: looks like the Browns won't be able to trade Edwards either...

The Giants' hopes of trading for Braylon Edwards are all but dead. Barring a last-minute drop in the Cleveland Browns' asking price, the Giants do not expect to acquire the big receiver, according to a source familiar with the situation. Giants GM Jerry Reese has told the Browns he will not give up the Giants' first-round draft pick (29th overall) for Edwards, and the Browns apparently won't take less. The Browns have asked for the Giants' first- and third-round picks - far more than the second- and fifth-round picks the Giants have offered. They had also previously asked for Giants defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka, although the Giants told them that was a deal-breaker. The current stalemate puts the Giants and Browns about where they were in February when Reese and Browns GM George Kokinis first talked about an Edwards deal and didn't make much progress. -- NY Daily News

Here is some Lions news....if it has not been discussed already:

The Lions were busy denying reports Wednesday of an imminent deal with Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford as the No. 1 overall pick in this weekend's NFL draft. But there's no denying this: If, or when, the contract gets done -- the Lions ratcheted up the negotiations Wednesday with Stafford's agent, Tom Condon -- it'll cost them a great deal. That's why the team continued contract talks with other top candidates, specifically Aaron Curry. The Wake Forest linebacker said Tuesday he'd gladly accept a deal similar to the one Jake Long signed with Miami as last year's top pick. And Curry could be the Lions' fallback plan -- he's the highest-rated player on many teams' draft boards -- as they insist on getting a deal done before the draft. -- Detroit News

What's up with that WR from Florida? That dumbass fails his test for marijuana? He's either stupid and/or a habitual user. He knew the test was coming and he still fails? I wouldn't anybody that dumb on my team.

I think the last I saw late first round to Jacksonville??

He'll regret that move this weekend big time. two players failed drug tests. i forgot who the other one is.

Good. I don't want Crabtree. Taking a WR #5 is stupid and VERY risky. Unless of course he's a Larry Fitz or Calvin Johnson. Crabtree isn't even close to those two.

Draft Curry or Malaluga. That's it. I won't be happy with any other scenario. Don't even talk to me if they trade Quinn either. I'd be pissed to all hell!

Here's what they should do:

Take Jason Smith # 1 and package the other # 1 and the second round pick to move up from 20 and take Sanchez, if he's still there at #8.
That is providing Stafford is gone by # 8

Jimbo

With so many holes on this team, those draft picks are like gold. We need bodies more than we need a QB that will cost us a draft pick.

BJ Raji (DE/DT) failed a drug test. (just pot though)

actually he was cleared. the 2 i'm talking about is percy harvin from FL and wr brandon tate from NC. Even if it's just pot as some see it, the NFL won't see it that way. you don't want to draft a player just to see him suspended. and if he doesn't feel like kicking the habit, he'll end up like ricky williams did, gone for quite awhile.

That's what I'm saying. These idiots KNEW the test was coming and still failed? How freaking stupid is that? Either they're morons or chronic users. (Pun intended).

or that conceded. what ever the reason is they're idiots as you said.

Did not hear the whole story, but it sounds like contract talk with stafford have hit some bumpy roads?? any other michigan Satellite guys hear this? Hopefully this will open the door for Curry, this will also I think add some value to the pick as well!!

So would there be rioting in Cleveland if they picked up Sanchez and dealt Quinn?

Likely just another smokescreen so people talk about trading with them, since Seattle has gotten people to talk about dealing to their spot for Sanchez instead of to KC's number 3 it seems.

What you heard is true. Reports say that the Lions have come to terms with Aaron Curry. I assume they are using that as some sort of leverage against Stafford, but I don't see how that would work. Ryan signed for more than Jake Long did last season.

My question is this: When you have lost your last 17 games, and if Stafford is your man, what the hell are you trying to save a couple of $M for?

Personally, I would be just fine with making Curry the choice. That, with the pro-bowler they acquired a month ago, shores up the LB corps. Maybe if we didn't give up points at over a 2 to 1 ratio over our offense, we could actually win a game or three.
