I heard that too, but it puzzles me. They have six solid O Lineman, but need depth at linebacker and secondary.
If this is in fact true, this is very unusual for the Patriots, If anything, they usually like to trade down.

Report: Patriots Trying To Trade Up In Draft
By: Christopher Price
NFL executives from two teams have told SI.com that the Patriots have offered their first-round pick and middle of three second-round picks (the 23rd and 47th picks overall) to Jacksonville for the eighth pick in this weekend's draft. For more Patriots updates, check out our football blog, It Is What It Is.
The Detroit Lions reached an agreement with Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford to make him the first pick in the NFL draft on Saturday.
According to a source, Stafford will receive a six-year, $41.7 million deal that could be worth $78 million if he achieves all of his playing incentives. The source also said he will receive $41.7 million in guarantees. That tops the $41 million in guarantees Albert Haynesworth received from the Washington Redskins.

Well, there goes all the drama of waiting to see who they'll choose on Saturday.
Oh well- good for Stafford and the Lions.
Can't wait to see Wozniak and Jimbo's reactions.

That just isn't right. A guy who hasn't even played a down yet makes more than a vet. Something has got to change.

As usual the Lions are making safe picks but not necessarily ones that will have a future. They go for the best player available but not what they truly need. As much as I like Calvin Johnson, did they really need him with the stable of WRs they had. Will the draft picks they got for Williams pay off? I still thought they should have drafted Defense with all first 3 picks and waited till next year for a QB. At least it may get more people here in GA to watch an occasional Lions game with a Stafford (UGA) to Johnson (GT) passing game. For those not from the south any football game between UGA and Ga Tech is described as "pure old fashioned hate"
Emphasis was WR's they had When CJ was drafted they had Both Williams, Furrey and Hakim. 3 years later and Johnson is the only receiver they have worth a crap. Maybe Ron Curry and McDonald can be good but either way I still would have addressed line positions this year and made a play for one of the 3 QBs coming up next year
