2009 NFL Draft Countdown

If this is in fact true, this is very unusual for the Patriots, If anything, they usually like to trade down.

Report: Patriots Trying To Trade Up In Draft

By: Christopher Price
NFL executives from two teams have told SI.com that the Patriots have offered their first-round pick and middle of three second-round picks (the 23rd and 47th picks overall) to Jacksonville for the eighth pick in this weekend's draft. For more Patriots updates, check out our football blog, It Is What It Is.

Interesting. I wonder who Belichick is targeting?

Well, there goes all the drama of waiting to see who they'll choose on Saturday.

Oh well- good for Stafford and the Lions.

Can't wait to see Wozniak and Jimbo's reactions.

Oh well...Wonder if he can play a little D his first year. I mean lions only gave up 500 points or so last year

I like Stafford, but I had other ideas posted earier, like tal\king Smith and trading the 22 and 33 pick to move up and potentially take Stafford or Sanchez, which ever one was left, they may have been able to get up high enough8-12 would have done it.

Personally, they STILL need to address the O Line and the D

That just isn't right. A guy who hasn't even played a down yet makes more than a vet. Something has got to change.

I share the same thoughts, nothing against these guys making money. But he has not thown a pass yet and is going to get at least 41 million. Thats why when I hear these "tough times" the NFL will be having I laugh as these owners continue to spend.

As far as the lions go. picks 20 and 33 or whatever that pick is better be on defense. You are 0-16, need all the help you can get and your first pick is on a plyer that most likely is not going to hit the field, well I guess with cullpepper, you never know, even though around here they have reports that he in in the best shape of his career

As usual the Lions are making safe picks but not necessarily ones that will have a future. They go for the best player available but not what they truly need. As much as I like Calvin Johnson, did they really need him with the stable of WRs they had. Will the draft picks they got for Williams pay off? I still thought they should have drafted Defense with all first 3 picks and waited till next year for a QB. At least it may get more people here in GA to watch an occasional Lions game with a Stafford (UGA) to Johnson (GT) passing game. For those not from the south any football game between UGA and Ga Tech is described as "pure old fashioned hate":D

Yeah, the NFL system of paying rookies is completely out of wack. It will probably be discussed by the labor union in the upcoming negotiations.

This has been talked about for years ... it happens EVERY year.

It will be this way until the next collective bargaining contract comes up.

When that changes, THEN people will want the top spots again and you'll see more trades in the top 5 again, like you use to.

Well they STILL need to address the O line as well , no one will be happy with Stafford laying on his back every other snap.

I would pick an O linemen with the next pick, or a D linemen.

btw, how many WR's do they have now ????
1 Calvin Johnson

People have been talking about LB's, what happen to the 6-7 LB's they drafted the last 5 years .... they have Ernie Sims, where's the rest ?

I like the pick of Stafford, but see many other needs as well, but they knew that already.

Jimbo

Now St. Louis gets to squirm ...

Now that Stafford is signed they were going to take Smith, now suddenly they are talking about possibly taking Sanchez instead.
So we get to see if the Sanchez effect makes them change thier mind ......

I personally hope Sanchez does go to the Rams ..... Had Sanchez fallen and gone to a good team, we would hear for years how GREAT Sanchez is, mainly because he went to a better team. Lets see which QB is better getting off thier backs !

Emphasis was WR's they had When CJ was drafted they had Both Williams, Furrey and Hakim. 3 years later and Johnson is the only receiver they have worth a crap. Maybe Ron Curry and McDonald can be good but either way I still would have addressed line positions this year and made a play for one of the 3 QBs coming up next year

Me too, I'm just saying, I'm OK with the pick .... now they need to get the lines taken care of.

The Sporting News last week guessed that the Lions would take DT Fili Moala (USC) with the 20th pick and James Laurinatis with the 33rd pick (2nd round).
This with Maualuga already being gone.
