2009 NFL Draft Countdown

Gone. Nobody but the Lion's would know why. All he did was lead the league in receptions two yrs. ago. Are you starting to understand why the Lion's are the worst franchise in NFL history?

And the funny part is we finished the season with Calvin Johnson and 3 walk-ons.

THE DETROIT LIONS - WE WILL WIN AT LEAST ONCE THIS YEAR!

Isnt that ironic with the WR's, did you take a look at the schedule, first weeks are brutal. Looks like though I may try to get some tickets for when Pitsburgh comes into town!

The whole schedule looks brutal when you haven't won in your last 17 games. Tampa Bay's 26 game losing streak is certainly in reach. I foresee a 3-13 season IF they draft well.

Just once, I wish I could be wrong about this team, but I doubt it will be this year.

We're six days away from the draft.

Simple question here:

what holes does your team need to fill, and which players could your team draft to possibly fill those holes?

In no particular order: LB, WR, RB, OT, CB, DE, DT.

If OLB Aaron Curry (Wake Forrest) is there at #5, I'm almost positive we'll take him. I also like ILB Rey Malagua from USC, but most "experts" think he'll be a later 1st round pick. If the Browns agree, they might hesitate in picking him so high. I tell you what though. He'll be a steal if he slips past #15.

The smart and probably safe pick would be to address the Defensive Line as in Brian Orakpo (DE Texas) or BJ Raji (DT Boston College). One of the two will most likely be there for the choosing at #5.

The tempting pick will be whether to draft Michael Crabtree if he's available. He's debatably the most talented player in the draft, but I hate drafting WR's so high. However, the spot IS a position of need. If we don't go after the Crab man, I like WR Hakeem Nicks (UNC) in the 2nd round.

In short, I don't have a clue to what direction this team will head. I do have a feeling we will accumulate at least 1 to 2 more picks in the draft though. A Braylon Edwards trade to the Giants is still lurking. I am still praying the ManKok (Mangini & Kokinis) doesn't trade the Mighty Quinn though. I'd be devastated.

From a lions fan percepective, this is a loaded question...LOL

Though I would want them to load up on defense....look at the point totals of last year. Get the games to be competitve from a defense standpoint.

For the Chiefs.... pass rusher, offensive line. Curry doesn't fit the bill as a pass rusher, so depending on if they think DE Hali and DT Dorsey and moving Derrick Johnson back outside can do the job in a 3-4, talk of us going Orakpo instead to work on the lack of a pass rush. Signing of Thomas, Beisel, acquisition of Vrabel have put doubts out there that we'll draft a LB, but Pioli likes to be loaded at a couple spots and that's one of them. Don't think we draft an offensive lineman again in the 1st round unless we trade down and can get something to address the above first. Waters is aging and we signed Matt Goff who will surely start. Albert still a work in progress, takes those guys a bit to adjust usually.

We don't have a second pick to take advantage of the depth at pass rushers in this draft, so a trade down would be nice for us, and we'd still fill some good team needs. In the later rounds we need to fill holes at CB, WR and maybe QB if any decent mid-round prospects slip a bit.
