2008 Pennant Races

Yankees defeat Red Sox, 6-2 in the first game of the doubleheader. Mike Mussina completes his first ever 20 win season.

I think this year's AL Comeback Player award will be very interesting, between Mussina, Cliff Lee, and Josh Hamilton.

Wasn't the Comeback OTY suppose to go to players that were unable to play the previous year due to injury ?
Not just poor play from the previous year ?

Jimbo,

I'm NOT positive , but I think it can go to any player that didn't perform well (for whatever reason) the year before.

Thanks, Bill. The bullseye on the Angels' backs now just got a whole lot bigger.

KCK,
at the risk of sounding boastful, is there any doubt that our series is the premier series out of the four?

You have the best team of 2008 going against the defending World Champions, plus as I've said before IMO, the best two teams of THIS decade.

Then that is not a "Comeback Player of the Year", it is a
"Comeback as I played like sh*t Last Year " award.

Basically it means NOTHING if that's the case.

I just googled it and this is what it says (BTW, I agree with you :D):

" The award recognizes players who have "re-emerged" as a player during a single season."

Too bad, sounds like it was a decent award that went to a person that was injured ... now it sounds like, hey, I had a bad year last year, if I do well this year I can win it award

No doubt, Bill. It promises to be a whale of a series. I want it to go the distance, too. Let's really duke it out!

Does anybody think the Tigers will just "phone it in"? They played an 11 inning game and then have to fly to Chicago on short notice to play a day game (traditionally a no-no following travel) that means nothing to them, and then reconnect back to Detroit, when they all had plans to blow town.

Bill,

Tito has his third string players in the lineup tonight. Check it out...

Yup it's the Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz team:

CF- Crisp
SS- Cora
DH- Carter
LF- Bailey
1B- Casey
3B- Lowrie
RF- Van Every
C- Cash
3B- Velazquez

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

BTW KCK,
don't start dreaming about seeing this lineup on Wednesday night. ;):D
