2008 Pennant Races

I dunno - I think everything is up in the air tomorrow and it can go either way. Oliver Perez is either going to be really good or really bad and if he walks anyone on a 3-1 count after the 5th, my heart is going to drop with each batter and they may have to consider taking him out fast. Like someone said - he's fricken Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in a Mets uniform. Whatever the outcome - all I gotta say is what a helluva final week.

Please, please, please - I hope Heilman, Schoenweiss, and/or Feliciano do NOT end up having to pitch any innings tomorrow. And if this goes to Monday with Pedro.... sigh - I might not be able to watch the game! He's going to have to somehow summon old Pedro back. ;)

Okay, it was an intentional walk in the 6th for Perez but Schoenwiess did not disappoint. This is the guy that said after Wagner went down that they could handle the load.

Anyway, just got back from Shea Stadium and it was so emotional with the park coming down. :( I have no words for Schoenweiss. Congrats to the Brewers.

Looks like I'm going to jump on the Cubbie bandwagon - I think it's time their streak came to an end.

Is Schoenweis a free agent this year? I'll tell you what he better have not been on the team bus. If he wasn't the fans would've told them to hitch. I'm just so damn aggravated with this guy. I'm sick of him and I'm glad he got the loss. It just sums up the year the bullpen and he has have. Makes you sick. All I heard was how great this guy was before we got him and he's been a BUST!!!!
You could tell the rest of the bullpen that, that's the closest you'll see or ever perform in a playoff hunt. ALL THOSE GUYS BELONG ON THE SCRAPHEAP AND SHOULDN'T BE NEAR A BASEBALL TEAM!!!
No, you know what that's wrong. Some of those bullpen guys (except Joe Smith who was actually good this year) should come to CitiField. After all, I'm sure they need GUYS TO WASH THE TOILETS AND PICK UP CRAP IN THE STADIUM!!!!

Does anybody think the Tigers will just "phone it in"? They played an 11 inning game and then have to fly to Chicago on short notice to play a day game (traditionally a no-no following travel) that means nothing to them, and then reconnect back to Detroit, when they all had plans to blow town.

Hope Not, it's thier chance to take out thier nemisis.

as for having to fly on short notice, not a big deal, they knew this could happen for about a week now, so, not knowing is not an answer.

btw, it gives Sheffield a grand oppertunity to hit his 500th HR this year.

Where does this season rank, in terms of the entire MLB league and not just your team, among the best?

I rank it as one of the best ever- great drama, records broken, milestones, no steroids, and no Clemens.

Supposivly it's harder to play under the pressure ? of playing in NY... Not sure why that is, after all your playing the same game regardless, but some cannot play in NY.

You think it's easier for a guy like Verlander to play in a market like Detroit as opposed to a Chicago/New York?

Well.....let's say atleast Heilman didn't pitch because it might have been worse...

And the Indians finish the season at .500- 81-81.

Given how poor they were at one time, this has to be satisfying for HD MM- they didn't lay down and die after the Sabathia trade and those injuries.

Yes indeed this pleases me. At the July 10th mark, the Indians were 16 games below .500 and 15.5 games out of first place. It was at this point (All-Star Break), that I declared our season over. Kudos to Wedge for keeping this team playing their asses off the second half.

More thoughts on this in the appropriate thread...

Congrats to C.C. and the Brew-Crew for clinching the NL Wild Card!

Sabathia carried this team on his back and single handily took them to the playoffs. His latest performance was one for the ages.

A few notable Sabathia stats:

-Sabathia threw a 122-pitch, four-hit complete game on short rest to seal the Brewers' playoff spot on the final day of the regular season.

-This was Sabathia's 3rd straight start on three days' rest.

-Sabathia's ERA over those three starts is 0.83.

-Asked Sunday if he could come back for a FOURTH straight start on three days' rest on Thursday, in Game 2 of the NLDS in Philadelphia, he replied: "No doubt."

-Sabathia (11-2) pitched his NL-leading seventh complete game in just his 17th start for Milwaukee.

-He finished with a 1.65 ERA for the Brewers.

-It was Sabathia's 26th career complete game and 10th of the season.

"He's the best pitcher in baseball," Ryan Braun said. "The best pitcher on the planet. He's our MVP this year. No chance for us to do this without him."

IMO, THAT is what put Sabathia over the top for the Cy Young award.

He literally willed an otherwise lifeless team to it's first playoff berth in 26 years!!!

WOODSTOCK... WAUKEGAN... AURORA...
CHICAGO... OSWEGO... MORRIS... JOLIET... KANKAKEE... PONTIAC...
WATSEKA... PAXTON 1150 AM CDT MON SEP 29 2008 .

NOW...
SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE THROUGH NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA THROUGH THE EARLY AFTERNOON. THE PRECIPITATION IS SCATTERED IN NATURE AND SHOULD NOT CAUSE A BIG PROBLEM FOR PEOPLE OUTDOORS OR THOSE HEADED TO THE WHITE SOX GAME. TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE LOW TO MID 60S.

If the White Sox force the one-game playoff or win, they'll be a tired team.

This reminds me of something the Angels once did- three games in three citites in three days in 2005.

The White Sox could possibly play three games in four days.

They have to play this game TODAY.

At least the ChiSox won the coin flip with the Twins, otherwise they would have to get on a plane tonight.

Agreed. Their bullpen has already been taxed heavily in the Indians series. I hope to hell the Detroit Motor Kitties put them away tonight. I would love to see Guillen try and explain this collapse!... ;):D

Rain delay now two hours. WGN Chicago at 2:30 ET said the delay would be no more than 30-40 minutes.
