This one was sent to me by DIRECTV. It seems to be for technicians but thought I would pass it along anyways.

Engineering has identified an infrequent problem involving Genie receivers with internal WiFi DECAs (HR44, HR54 and H44) being unable to establish a wireless Internet connection when only one wireless network option is available on the Setup: Wireless Connection screen. When attempting to connect to the Internet wirelessly, the SSID (network name) is grayed out and the technician is unable to make a selection. Engineering is actively working to resolve this issue in a future software update, which is anticipated to be released in early 2016.

Until the fix is released, a workaround has been approved that involves introducing a second network option temporarily via a Wireless Video Bridge (WVB):

  1. Plug a WVB into a power outlet within range of the Genie.
    • The Wireless Video Bridge does not need to be configured in any way or connected to coax, just powered on so that the receiver can detect the network it establishes.
  2. Perform a red button reset on the Genie receiver. It should recognize the WVB after restarting.
  3. Follow standard procedure to connect the Genie to the customer’s WiFi Internet network. Remember that WPS (WiFi Protected Setup) is a quick and easy way to connect the DIRECTV system to the Internet – please visit the DOCK (keyword: WPS) for more details how to use WPS.
  4. Once the Genie has been connected, the technician can unplug the WVB and take it with them.
    • Please note that the customer does not need the Wireless Video Bridge beyond establishing the initial Internet WiFi connection. As long as they have been connected to the Internet previously, these Genie models are capable of reconnecting to a wireless internet network even when only one option is available.

Another option (especially if you come across this and are not a tech) is to activate the mobile hotspot (personal hotspot on iOS) on your phone to have a second option show up on the screen when going back through the internet setup.
