Video Game Deals

The Steam Winter Sale is live. Like always they are experiencing load issues right now and lots of the sale prices aren't showing up yet even if a game is listed as part of the sale.

Edit: 45 minutes later and I still haven't really been able to see what is available in the sale. I'm constantly getting the "sorry Steam is experiencing some heavy load" message.

Yeah they're still taking a beating. Prices are showing up but I keep getting "Too much sh*t going on yo" errors so I'm going to wait until tonight to get my stuff. Luckily 3 of my games are on sale at prices I can tolerate (Hotline Miami 2 FINALLY at 50% off thank you!) But yeah I still do miss the thrill of the flash/daily sales. What's even weirder is the fact that even though Steam stopped, now EVERY other store is doing this format of daily + flash, as opposed to just the same sales throughout.

Like I said during the previous sale when they were doing it in this format, I think it's going to hurt them to do it this way. I'm much more likely to buy those games I don't really need when I'm checking back a few times a day and see them as a flash sale item.

It also has the added benefit (for them) of spacing our purchases out so it doesn't feel like I'm spending as much money. Even if I spend the same $100 over the course of the week it's easier for me to get there on several impulse buys over a few days than it is to add $100 to my cart at once and check out. The way it is now, there is really no reason to come back after the first day.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them go back to the old way by the time the Spring or Summer sales come around.

Another Square Enix bundle. Pretty good offerings. I almost had a heart attack when I saw Life Is Strange was on the lower tier, until I saw it was only the first episode.

Update: The top tier has been reduced to $8.99. Even just the GOTY edition of Tomb Raider makes it a great deal.

It seems to be working normally now. I can actually see my wish list to quickly look at the prices for all the games I have been targeting now. I don't see anything crazy low for the games I'm interested in. I'm still going to grab a couple though.

One of the main games I have been looking for is Life is Strange. During the Black Friday Steam Sale they put the first episode at 50% off but if you wanted the complete season it's only 33% off. I was really waiting for 50% off or better but I suppose it's worth the extra $3.39 to not have to wait anymore.

Well if you get the Square Enix Humble Bundle you can get Episode 1 for $1 to make sure you like it first. I'm on episode 2 (got the whole thing for $10 on the last big Xbox sale) and am enjoying it for the most part. I have to say that cover art is rather deceiving IMO. Max (currently at least) does not look that "cool" in the game.

Dragonsphere is free on GoG until next year, when it will go up to $5.99.

Speaking of stuff changing on GoG next year, apparently they're losing all the Duke Nukem games (except for Forever, which they never had) so they're all heavily discounted. You can get every classic Duke game ever made for $2.36, which is 90% off.

You can get Guitar Hero Live for $50 at Target. Click on the link for more info.

You can get all the Max Payne games (including all the DLC for 3) for $10.99 via Amazon. FYI, 1 doesn't run well on modern machines. I don't think I was able to get my 360 gamepad to work properly with it, which bummed me out because I was planning on playing that game most.

If the widget is telling you $54.96, don't worry. The price is reduced on the actual site
Amazon product ASIN B00G3K2JEG

Xbox Live Gold Members can get the complete season of Life is Strange for $10.

As I mentioned recently, I HIGHLY recommend this game. Criticisms aside it's really good and worth your time, and it's cheaper than what it's being offered on Steam. Also, again without wishing to spoil, this is a "one and done" game so it's not like the Tell Tale games where you need to be worried about your progress/decisions carrying over to a second season on your platform of choice.

You can get EA Access for $23.99 for a year at Newegg with promo code EMCKNNX57 .

Also you can stack up to 3 years of membership.

Depending on which games you have already played this is can be an awesome deal. In addition to all the older sports games you get Dragon Age Inquisition, Titanfall, Battlefield 4, Battlefield Hardline, Peggle 2, PvZ Garden Warfare, and Need for Speed Rivals.

If I didn't already own all of those besides Hardline and Need for Speed I would absolutely sign up. It also makes sense to sign up for a month if you are planning on buying any EA game at full price. You get 10% ($6) off and a month only costs $4.99.

Yeah EA Access looks like a good idea but until they get more games for it I can't justify it. I already have Titanfall, Battlefield 4, PvZ, Peggle 2, I'm not getting into that DA:O timesink until I clear through some others, and I'm not big into sports games. If they can get a bunch of their old 360 games on there then it'll look a lot more intriguing. But yeah, if you're into sports games and don't have many of the other ones then it's a great deal, not to mention early access to various games.

Lara Croft GO is $1.99 on iOS. I'm not typically a fan of mobile games but I picked this up on sale and it's pretty cool. It looks nice on my big iPad screen but I haven't tried it out on the smaller iPhone yet.

Sold! (for $0.99 on Google Play for Android version) :)

I really enjoyed Hitman Go, and this looks just as good, if not better.

Humble Monthly is trying a new tactic to entice people to sign up. If you subscribe before February 5th you get Alien Isolation immediately.
https://www.humblebundle.com/monthl...-99907589&mc_cid=221a218c75&mc_eid=2e9a6ec67e

Since Alien Isolation was $12.49 in the Steam Holiday Sale this is a good deal if you want that game. At that point anything of interest to you in the bundle is basically a free bonus. I still have a hard time justifying the idea of paying $12 per month for a Humble Bundle Subscription when you don't get to see what games are included until after it's too late to change your mind. The regular and weekly bundles are much better options for me.
