Video Game Deals

PSN BF Flash Sale is up. I'll probably grab The Order for $10.

In other news, after researching my Walmart PS Plus card buying issues, I discovered people had more luck buying just one card at a time. So finally I managed to grab one $10 three-month PS Plus card. Haven't decided if I'll go for any more. May wait to see if another $40 deal for one year comes up over the holidays now that I bought myself some time.

At that price I will be buying The Order too. I haven't had a chance to really look through the full list yet but that is a good deal.

I was relatively under control with my Black Friday weekend game shopping compared to past years. All I bought in the Steam sale was Wolfenstein: The New Order for $8.99 and The Beginner's Guide for $5.99. I also bought The Order 1886 from PSN for $10 and the Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm expansion from Amazon for $10.

I think those $300 Xbox One bundles probably sold like crazy over the weekend though. I would be shocked if the Xbox One didn't outsell the PS4 this holiday season even though that hasn't been the case in most months since release.

Well, the season has just begun, but it looks like Sony is in the lead as of now.

Guess I'm shocked then. I also just confirmed this by checking Amazon's top 100 selling video game products list. The Uncharted PS4 bundle is #1 while the Gears of War Xbox One bundle is #4. I wasn't aware that Sony was also doing $300 bundles so that lessens my shock quite a bit.

What I find more shocking than that is that the highest charting actual game on the list is Just Dance 2016 for the Wii at #7. I know Nintendo sold a ton of Wii consoles but I still find that hard to believe.

I talked to someone at Gamestop a while back and they said that Wii's ALWAYS sell well at Christmas because they're so cheap, have a huge library, and can be played by anyone. Just Dance has always been a big hit on that system for years. I never really understood how the game is supposed to "register" everything with just the remote. It seems like it could be faked rather easily, unlike the Kinect versions which really requires you to move properly. And kids LOVE those games. My 2 daughters will always jump (no pun intended) at the opportunity to play the dancing games, which gets a little annoying at times because my Kinect isn't good at picking up small kids (5 and 3 year old).

From reviews I've read, the PS4 camera has a hard time picking up young children as well in the Just Dance games. You definitely score better using the Move controller (or I imagine the phone app), instead of relying solely on the camera, since you only have to worry about what your one arm is doing in the dances. It's like the camera ignores the rest of your body when you have a motion controller.

Turns out I couldn't keep up my good behavior. I just grabbed Dying Light in the Steam sale for $20. I have been wanting to buy this since it came out in February but it has held it's price point on PC much longer than most games do. Until this Steam sale the best price I had seen on the PC version was $30.

It might go a little cheaper during the Winter sale but I doubt the difference will be more than $5. This will be my next AAA game when I'm done with Fallout.

I can't believe there's been so few deals on PS Plus this Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Fry's and Newegg on Ebay very briefly had it for $40 for a one year card, but they were gone before I heard about it. As far as I can remember, every Black Friday there's been a $40 deal at various major retailers, and a couple years ago Gamestop even had a $30 Black Friday deal. If I had known it would be like this, I would've just paid the $50 when my subscription lapsed in mid-October.

If you need an extra guitar for the new Guitar Hero for Xbox One/PS4, you can get replacements for $20 now via Gamestop. Apparently these normally cost $50.

There's some sort of Jingle Jam going on at Humble Bundle. You get different games if you donate certain amounts.

I can't see whatever is on the top of the page because we don't have Flash or Java installed on our office PCs. I'm not sure which one is required but I see a big box saying I'm missing a plugin. All I can see are some TF2 badges for $5 or a bunch of games for $25.

Steam is having a sale on award nominated games. Not too much to write home about but may be worth a look.

Xbox Marketplace is doing a similar sale, although their deals seem to be a bit better. It looks like it's having some issues. I was going to pick up Life is Strange for $10 (My 50% off entry point) but the price isn't coming up correctly. And also it's saying that the first episode is free, which I can't imagine is correct since they're also selling it for $5 (and THAT isn't coming up at 50% off either.) Maybe this is a website only issue, as I am not near my Xbox One. It's also coming up wrong on the Xbox One App. Hopefully they'll get this resolved ASAP because I'd love to dive in and pick up some more GOTY contenders.

Psn is also having a sale on nominated games. Same deals as Xbox

Thanks for the heads up. Looking at both sales, it seems the Life Is Strange season pass (episodes 1-5) is selling for $10. Xbox is selling episode 1 as a standalone for $2.50.

Only $7.50 for Tales of the Borderlands season pass on PSN (episode 1 is free); whereas on Xbox it's $10 for episodes 1-5. At any rate, I'm glad I didn't jump on TotB when it dropped to $15 on PSN.
