The Road to SuperBowl XLIV: The Official 2010 NFL Playoffs Thread

Not what I expected yesterday. The Chargers and the Cowboys were taken completely out of their offenses. I love defense, but a Jets / Vikings Superbowl would certainly go down as a major snoozefest.

Don't worry, the Jets won't make it and ruin it for you. NO chance! ;)

If that happens, I may have to go on vacation EARLY ....
Usually stick around till after the SB.

You know how these things work out. Expect a low scoring game and watch it turn out to be 31-30 and one of the greatest games ever. Happens all too often.

7) Did the Chargers make the right call by "on-siding" a kick with so much time left in the 4th quarter?

Think about it.....

- The chances for a Charger recovery are slim.
- They still had 1 timeout and the 2 minute warning to stop the clock.
- If the Jets recover, they have a short field, almost guaranteeing they would use all 4 downs, thus running out the clock, but...
- If the Chargers punt like normal and stop the Jets on 3 downs, they would've gotten the ball back with 1:20 on the clock.

That's one of those plays where if the Chargers recover Turner is a genius, if the Jets recover Turner is an idiot. And their are valid arguments both ways. The 11 games they won in a row were mostly close games, so Turner must have a good handle on his team.

Can't wait for the games this weekend. I would LOVE to see the Jets knock off the Colts.

Sandra and other Jets fans: Sorry for ripping your team. I was proved wrong.

You know what's weird? One of my nephews, 12, is a HUGE Colts fan. Well, a huge Peyton Manning fan, and right now that's the same thing.

We texted each other back and forth thru both the Colts and Jets games, and he's already announced he's watching the game this week with Aunt Sandy. If the Jets lose I'll still be watching the Rangers that night, but if the Colts lose he'll be absolutely devastated.

In some bizarre way, looking at this game through my nephew's eyes...for his sake I may be almost as devastated as he'll be if the Colts lose. Add to that the fact that I'm a big Peyton Manning fan myself.

Oh my. I love my nephew more than I love the Jets!

For the record, I'm a believer that the Jets won that game fair and square. You've all seen the Jets defense the last three weeks. You're gonna tell me that they didn't have a chance to at least slow down Peyton Manning?

I guess we're all gonna get a chance to see that answer this Sunday..........which to me is the biggest irony of all! ;)

I'm not sure how you can say that. Did they have a chance? Sure. But the fact remains that the Colts best players didn't play the last quarter and a half, so there's no way you can extrapolate what happened to what would have happened had they all played.

That being said, the Colts losing to the Jets would be the worst conclusion to a Colts season since watching Tedy Bruschi bark at a sideline reporter about the refs not helping the Colts offense after a 20-3 beatdown at the hands of the Patriots a few years ago... I still haven't totally forgiven Caldwell and Polian for pulling them out of that game and then putting them back in a blizzard in Buffalo just to get Clark and Wayne 100 catches each, and if they lose to the team they LET IN THE PLAYOFFS, I will not be a happy camper.

Not that I want to speak for Bill, but I think he's just saying the Jets had a chance in that game, the same thing you said. Bill may have said that because so many here (and so many Giant fans) have stated at 15-10 in the third quarter, had the Colts left their starters in, there is no way on God's green earth (or turf) the Jets would have won the game.

The Jets stink, Peyton Manning, 14-0, blah blah blah. If they played that game 100 times the Colts would have won 100 times. I didn't see the game, but that's what I read right here

At the time everyone spoke in absolutes, and they're PROBABLY right...but they're not definitely right. ;)

Sorry, I took the "they won fair and square" comment to mean that you thought the win was... well, a win. A legitimate win.

I don't see it that way - sorry if I misunderstood what you were saying.

No problem :) :up

The thing I keep hearing on TV and talk shows is if the Jets beat the Colts in the AFCCG, then the Colts have no one to blame but themselves (because the Colts "handed" the Dec. 27 game to the Jets to allow them to qualify for the playoffs).

I find that very contradictory. Why?

Think about it........ IF the Jets beat the Colts (with Manning and the rest of the Colts starters) THIS Sunday, doesn't that validate their Dec. 27 victory?

But you'll miss the Pro Bowl the day before! :D

I haven't watched the Pro Bowl in 25 years ......

Tremendous waist of time.
The players that should be there aren't because they want the time off or are injured.

This year, now that the game is before the SB, are the BEST players (the teams in the SB) not allowed to play ?

Well, the SB teams will definitely not have their players playing in the Pro Bowl, but I think the players from the two losing teams will not play either. I have a feeling that the Pro Bowl is in it's final years.

The problem is that the NFL is trying to get fans to care about it by putting it before the Super Bowl. I guess now there's a football game to fill that void during the bye week, so more people probably will watch it, but will we care? Heck, no - especially without one or two (or three?) of the game's best quarterbacks (Favre, Brees, Manning) not there. Next thing you know, we'll be hearing "this one counts!" and they'll be using it to decide who gets to wear the home jerseys for the Super Bowl... ;)

They should just leave it the way it was - rewarding the players who make it with a trip to Hawaii in February.
