The NEW iPhone 4S Discussion

Well crap. We use different Apple IDs on our Macs now. When we had the 3G a long time ago we used different Apple IDs because of the contacts. I'd love to use the same Apple ID but I'd be afraid of us messing up each other's contacts.

It may be alright if you sync through iTunes with one device, transfer your purchases to the mac; and then sync the other device, and install the apps. IN fact, I am pretty darn sure it will be -- except for stuff that is password-controlled through specific accounts. I.e., I subscribe to the Daily, $40 per year. My wife can read it on her iPad, because she is using my Apple ID. If she had her own, the subscription would NOT work.

I just realized in that listing of ipod's, my favorite device, the ipod classic was nowhere to be seen. :( I have a current generation 160GB model, and use it EVERY day... I sure hope it stays available.

You know James, for the last year my Droid experience has been ONE frustration after another, somehow they lost me, and the convergence of of my operating systems just makes sense. Plus I can still use google calendar and gmail and maps, the three google services I use every day. Even without the larger screen I am going to make the switch.

That's what happens when you drink a gallon of Apple juice I guess. Well, its one of the things that happens. :)

I've got an iPad 2, wife has an iPhone 4, and yet im still using an original Droid that frustrates me more and more every day. This presentation today just didn't sell me on making the switch even though I was ready and willing to make it. If I could use my Droid 1 for the last 2 years I am sure I could get by with using any iPhone. I just don't want to step back to a 3.7" screen, and no 4G. I can see why people would have spotty reception, or not care as much about 4G, but if I am going to be stuck with another device for 2+ years I am willing to wait for a little more.

Like the iPhone 4, the 4S hardware doesn't stack up with other handsets on the market. Apple has pushed us to where we are at and I enjoy my Droid that has certainly benefited from the competition between companies, but it's time for Apple to take it to the next level and being able to make a calendar event by voice didn't do that. Their software still dominates in the polish and 'copied your favorite features from the other devices' department, but compared to something like the Galaxy S II this phone looks like it came out a year ago. It's no wonder Apple is going after Samsung in court.

I wonder if it will allow you to sync purchases between devices on the same account? Example: If I purchase an app in the app store on my phone and my wife wants it on hers too?

I have a second gen iPod touch and I do this with it just fine. I will purchase the app with my i4 ... I then purchase it on my touch ... but this time around it states that I have already purchased it and that I can simply just download it. Both devices have to be registered on the same account though.

You can still download each others apps. Just enter your wife's ID when prompted if you're downloading something she purchased.

If you like The Daily then try Editions which is FREE. I just got this program this morning and LOVE IT. Its a lot like The Daily.

It's a decent upgrade, not killer. The lack of inclusion of Wimax/LTE is surprising.

I do understand the impact on battery life, but my Motorola Photon (MoPho) manages this very well and I can get a days worth of use (light-medium) on a charge with 4g activated.

I am not at all surprised that its not 4G. Apple is all about non-removable batteries, and given the battery drain issues on LTE/4G I would not expect a 4G iPhone until they solve all of those problems.
