You must prepare for…wait for it…"WATERFALL CRY EMOJI." Are…we…strong…enough? "It's really emotional. It's a heartbreaking finale. We've incorporated time-travel in the first season and the finale has a lot of that," Gustin told me at the CW Upfronts this morning in NYC. "It's just a really heartbreaking conclusion to the first season. And it does wrap things up in a nice way to hopefully be able to move on different tone for season two."So what else is in store? On The Flash's Tuesday finale, Barry (Grant Gustin) travels back in time to try and save his mother's life, and thus also save his father from a life in prison. That seems like a fairly noble mission, until you take into account all the repercussions traveling that far back in time could have on the world.Gustin admits Barry's trip to the past "doesn't necessarily go as planned," and that everything we knew about his future -- including his future marriage to Iris (Candice Patton) -- is now up in the air. But that might not be the biggest news. "What's fun about this show is that there's going to be multiple timelines as we move forward," Gustin says. "I think we're going to start showing Earth-One and Earth-Two in the near future. There will be kind of different dimensions going on."In DC Comics, Earth-One and Earth-Two are only a few of the parallel universes that make up the elaborate multiverse. Having an Earth-One and Earth-Two within The Flash would open up radical new possibilities for the show, including alternate versions of characters we already know or even new versions of the same superheroes, such as Jay Garrick's The Flash or perhaps the superhero or villain sides of Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) and Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker).However, having parallel universes could make the future cross-overs with Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow that much trickier. "It gets a little Rubik's Cube-y in terms of keeping consistency between all these timelines and whatnot," Valdes says. "But the writers have their stuff together. If I were to trust anyone, it would be them."The Flash's first season finale airs Tuesday at 8/7c on The CW.

Martin) and boyfriend of Joe’s daughter, Iris West (Candice Patton), Eddie developed a friendship with Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), despite the two being in love with the same woman. Eddie’s fate started to take a dangerous turn a few episodes ago when he was kidnapped by Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh), recently revealed as Eobard Thawne, a distant relative of Eddie’s and mortal enemy of The Flash. In tonight’s finale, after getting his plan to get back to the future and harness The Flash’s speed thwarted, Eobard Thawne (aka Reverse Flash) moved on to destroy Team Flash. As his relative, Eddie sacrificed himself, knowing that if he takes his own life, Eobard (Reverse Flash) will never exist.

I haven’t had a chance to watch the finale of The Flash yet (business travel is the worst sometimes), but I hear it was pretty fun! This week on The CW, “The Flash” wrapped up a stellar first season, ending a string of bright, colorful, and unabashedly fun episodes with an emotional finale and a hell of a cliffhanger. Like it’s titular hero, “The Flash” bolted out of the gate at top speed, with remarkably few stumbles in its freshman year. It also gave viewers a taste of something longtime DC Comics readers have known for years: that while he isn’t a part of the famed trinity of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, The Flash is secretly the most important character in the entire DC Universe. It isn’t even really a matter of opinion—sure, personal taste will dictate how much you enjoy any given Flash story, but the character’s importance is about as objective as you can get in comic books. It was The Flash that comics creators used to introduce or popularize a number of ideas that are now integral to the DC Universe, and comics as a whole. It's quite possible to chart the history of DC Comics, and to a lesser extent, mainstream superhero comics, using the Flash as a measuring stick. The Flash made his debut in January of 1940, the third of DC’s most recognizable characters to be created in the Golden Age of comics, coming after Batman but just before Green Lantern. He was also an entirely different character than the one you might know from the current main “Flash” comic being published by DC, on the CW TV series, or the upcoming movie set to star Ezra Miller. Those are all about another Flash—Barry Allen. We’ll get to him in a moment. The first Flash, however, was a guy named Jay Garrick.

The first season of The Flash has come to an end and it was packed with tons of Easter eggs, references and trivia from the comic books. After cataloging them all in our Flash wiki, we selected the best of the best that you should know about.At the end of the first episode we got a look at Dr. Wells’ futuristic newspaper, which showed a story in the bottom left corner about a merger between Wayne Tech and Queen Inc. Wayne Tech?! That’s Bruce Wayne’s company, who we all know as Batman. This means that while we might not see Batman anytime soon, if ever, he does exist in this show’s world.Also on the newspaper, there’s a reference to how the Flash went missing in a “crisis” as well as a separate story about red skies. This is a reference to the Crisis on Infinite Earths comic from 1985, which spanned DC’s multiverse and resulted in the death of Barry Allen.There’s a scene where Dr. Wells lists off people who apparently died in the particle accelerator explosion, all of whom are costumed characters from the comics: Ralph Dibny (Elongated Man), Bea DeCosta (Fire), Al Rothstein (Atom Smasher), Grant Emerson (Damage), and Will Everett (Amazing Man).

We already know that more speedsters will be showing up in Central City when The Flash returns for its second season, and now the identity of one such hero has been revealed. According to DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, Jay Garrick will be speeding his way onto television when The Flash returns this fall.In the comics, Garrick is the original Silver Age Flash, having made his debut in Flash Comics #1 in 1940. After the recent New 52 relaunch, Garrick was made the Flash of Earth 2, one of DC’s several alternate universes. It’s also been revealed that the DC Multiverse will play a part in The Flash‘s sophomore season, and judging by the way Garrick’s iconic winged helmet appeared out of one of the time travel wormholes created by Reverse Flash, that seems the most logical way to introduce the character next year.

Looks like both of the CW’s headliner superheroes will have new looks next season. Just over a week after the new Arrow costume was unveiled at Comic-Con, we now have a peek at the new threads for The Flash‘s Grant Gustin:

Maya Mani designed the new outfit for Season 2 of The Flash, which hits the track on October 6. The costume designer also was behind the new Season 4 look for Arrow, which Stephen Amell showed off in front of a packed Hall H on July 11. Add to that, Mani also is tackling costume design duties on The CW’s new WBTV superhero series Legends Of Tomorrow.

Now it’s hard to imagine anyone other than Grant Gustin playing Barry Allen on The Flash, but he had to prove himself worthy of the role.In this clip from the Digital HD release of Season 1, executive producer Greg Berlanti admits Gustin didn’t look like the comic-book version of Barry nor was he exactly the right age. But he “had the heart and Grant had acting chops to carry this role,” Berlanti says.That’s clear from his screen test footage, which shows an anguished Gustin reading lines from a scene in the pilot. “This morning, I broke the sound barrier!” he exclaims.That intensity, mixed with Gustin’s ability to exchange comedic banter (and karaoke the hell out of some songs), is what made him the perfect Flash.
