No NFL team seriously approaching LA group

No NFL team has expressed serious interest in moving to Southern California, according to a top executive with the company proposing to build a football stadium in downtown Los Angeles. AEG President Tim Leiweke told The Los Angeles Daily News in an interview Monday that he hasn’t heard from any team that plans to apply to move to Los Angeles for the 2013 season. The NFL opened the application period on Jan. 1. Franchises have until Feb. 15 to apply.

“I haven’t been made aware of any team that is going to file for a move in 2013,” Leiweke said.

The impending sale of Anschutz Entertainment Group, a $6 billion conglomerate of sports and entertainment enterprises, might be a concern for team owners, the executive said.“What I would guess ... is that there is no club currently that’s going to file for a transfer simply because they are waiting to see what happens with our ownership situation,” Leiweke told the Daily News.
In September, AEG’s parent company, Anschutz Co., announced that it was selling AEG, which owns the Staples Center, the Los Angeles Kings NHL team and dozens of other music and sports properties.Leiweke told the Daily News that about a dozen individuals or companies are on a short list of possible buyers. A deal could be reached in the first quarter of 2013, he said.
AEG can’t start construction on the $1.5 billion Farmers Field stadium until it secures a team. It also faces a competing stadium proposal by developer Ed Roski.Los Angeles has been without an NFL team since the Rams moved to St. Louis and the Raiders departed for Oakland in 1995. The city and its surrounding area have two Major League Baseball teams, two basketball teams and two hockey teams

I say San Diego if they don't get their new stadium will move there and doesn't sounds like San Diego is going to get it :)

I say nobody goes there.

I HOPE nobody goes.

A new stadium being built in LA for NFL with NO occupants, man them LA people must enjoy taxes !

Gotta believe that it's not all coming out of the Builders pocket.

I'd laugh if they built this and NOBODY came ....

The article says they can't start building the stadium until someone commits to coming there.

But you know they will try and build it somehow and Amen Jimbo them LA people must love taxes :D :)

I don't think anyone will move there. The owners aren't stupid, and they've seen what's happened with the last several LA franchises.

Cleveland and Baltimore should move there so they can have two football teams also. :D

the NFL doesn't want a team move there, they want a expansion team there because a expansion team cost more money! and the NFL is business first!

They would need two teams to keep it even.
Probably more, as there are 8 divisions. Right now at 32 teams, it's an ideal number for the number divisions they have. Adding more teams screws with that. That's why I don't see an expansion.

My suggestion, expand the league to include two new franchises. Los Angeles one team. The second team could be in Salt Lake City or Las Vegas. As an alternative, finally break the NFL into Canada, Toronto or Vancouver would make a nice location.

The more teams you add the worse the talent will get. BTW...Canada has their own football league, the fans won't pay to watch two different teams in two different leagues.

The NFL would run in to problems with the Bills and Seahawks ownership if they tried to expand to Vancouver or Toronto.

If they do add 2 expansion teams, my fear is they go Los Angeles and , gulp, London.
